Phonic Worksheets for Early Years/Intervention - Growing Bundle

Phonic Worksheets for Early Years/Intervention - Growing Bundle
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Teacher Tools, Lesson Plans, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Activities, Games

This is a pack of Bumper Pack of 14 (to date) books of phonic worksheets for the digraphs: L blends, CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA especially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? PDF's of worksheets each covering the sounds: L Blends. CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA , all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Over 180+ Worksheets: Your phonics lessons covered! Tracking, fluency triangles, spelling, reading, games, comprehension exercises....and more! Some sounds contain print-and-go games to make learning fun. AR and A-E each contain a board game. Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. · Have only a little on each page as these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 12 worksheets: 1. See it! where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out! Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by using sound-it-out boxes for reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound (except the Consonant L-Blends) with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give this a week after we finish the book, to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included in most books. Phonic Games are also included for AR and A-E to make learning more fun! What is included? 10 PDFs totalling 150 + worksheets each covering the sounds: CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA , 2 PDF games for AR and A-E in full colour and black and white

Ready to Read -an Word Family Active Instruction Lesson 2

Ready to Read -an Word Family Active Instruction Lesson 2
ELA, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Preschool, Grade 1, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools

Ready to Read – Lesson 2 Word Family -an with Picture Reinforcement. Multi-Sensory Instruction with a Letter and Sound Review, Auditory Drill, Blending Drill, Decodable Reading, Word Dictation, and a Phonemic Awareness Activity : Rhyme. These lessons were created to use with whole group blended learning (virtual and in-person students) for kindergarten and beginning First Grade. They were so successful that once all students returned to in-person instruction, I continued using them. All students can easily see the Smartboard, and it is so much easier than if I have to juggle letter cards, books, and different materials. I can easily save different versions of the presentation, and edit each one to fit the needs of various students for additional work with a tutor or in small group. It also works well with small groups, RTI, Resource, and SPED. These lessons build on each other, and will eventually last about 30 - 45 minutes depending on changes you make, the size of your group, and the pace. Of course, some students/classes go through quicker, some slower, so adapt as needed. These earlier lessons are quicker – Lesson 2 (-an) has 123 slides and you can actually click through it in about 5 minutes. But it takes longer when your students are learning what to do, and you must also factor in time for them to get paper and pencil and complete the 5-word dictation at the end of the lesson. So estimate a 30 minute block initially and modify and adapt as needed. You will download a zip file that contains a PowerPoint Presentation, a note to read first, a file with extra slides if you need to change or add some slides, and a PDF that has a link to make a copy in Google Slides if you do not use PowerPoint. The slides start out with a quick attention-getter, followed by letter review - say letter, say sound, and keyword (" B, ball, /b/"). All letters are included, however, I typically use only the ones my students need to work on and not in alphabetical order - especially in later lessons. You may want to do the first few lessons in alphabetical order and change future lessons to meet your needs as you see how this works for your class. This is followed by an auditory drill. IF you have letter tiles or magnetic letters, this is a great time to get those out. If not, just use the letter tiles on the SmartBoard without additional student material or have them air write the letters or write with crayons, pencil and paper, or simply say the letter. For this, there are letter tiles on the slide. The teacher says the sound of one of the letters. The students repeat the sound and then identify the letter. For example, teacher says /b/. Students repeat /b/ and then say B. If they have letter tiles or magnetic letters they can pull those, or point to them. A "New Concept" is taught - the "glued sound" of /an/. Then we are on to blending. Students say the sound of the letter the car is beneath. /f/ on one slide, /an/ on the next. Then the car "drives" beneath letters fan and the students will read "fan." This continues through multiple -an word family words. Time to Read - this starts with reading the words we just blended. A picture of the word on the following slides reinforce the correct answer, and really help out some of the students who struggle more - they are able to put that picture reinforcement with the word which really helps many students. Review Words - we review words from previous lessons, in this case, it is only the -at words from lesson 1. High Frequency Word Review. Slides for Red Words, Sight Words, and Trick Words are included in an additional file, so you can easily use the term that correlates with your preference or curriculum. Add any other words you are working on. I have a few basic ones, and what the students will need to read the next slides. Sentence Reading - a few very basic sentences. Especially here on this first lesson. The presentations will build on each other, so students constantly review what they have learned and build on it. We then review rhyme - Thumbs up or down with rhyming pairs. Typically phonemic awareness activities are done prior to a lesson like this, but for the past couple of years, my students had so much trouble with rhyme, and when I put the rhyming activity after all the word family work, they are more successful than if I start with it. Of course, you can move the rhyme slides to the beginning of the presentation if you want to stick with traditional format. Finally, there is the Exit Ticket or Dictation - slides show pictures from earlier in the lesson and one from the prior lesson - in this presentation, there is a man, can, pan, van, and a mat. They will write each word on their paper (or if you have your letter tiles or magnetic letters you can easily use them). Written work is important, and it will help show progress, allow you to examine which students need help and hopefully see their misconceptions, and it helps you to give grades if required. Orton-Gillingham, IMSE, Wilson Reading System, and FUNdations curriculums influenced the way this is put together. If you have access to Hooked on Phonics Videos, they work well to plug into these lessons. They are quick little "brain brakes" of sorts, or sometimes attention getters, but always educational and catchy, and my students loved them.

Your students will participate in a close read of the primary source document four times: 1. for context and origins (source the document); 2. for meaning; 3. for the purpose (argument or thesis) of the document; and 4. read like a historian. Students will collaborate in deep discussions developing their critical thinking skills as they delve into their reading and analysis of the Mayflower Compact. Through this experience, they will find that their discussions become richer as they work through the questions provided for each of the 4 Reads. The follow up to the lesson, the multiple choice and short answer questions will offer students an opportunity to showcase what they learned. This lesson can take 2 50-minute periods to complete. However, if we want our students to feel confident enough to tackle primary source documents written in the past in unfamiliar English, we need to give them the tools to do so. Even so, I have provided an annotated version of the Mayflower Compact to help your English Language Learners, students on IEPs and 504 Plans, and struggling readers. The Mayflower Compact- Analyzing a Primary Source Document includes the following: History and Reading for History Standards, Objectives, and Learning Targets Essential Question: How do founding documents like the Mayflower Compact shape the principles and practices of governance in societies? 3 Guiding Questions: "What were the key motivations behind the drafting and signing of the Mayflower Compact?"; "How does the language and structure of the Mayflower Compact reflect the religious and political beliefs of the Pilgrims?"; and "What principles of governance are outlined in the Mayflower Compact, and how do they compare with other early democratic documents or principles?"
