Distributive Property - Digital Practice & Mini Lesson
, Grade 6, 7, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools
Thisself graded, digital math practice activity about the distributive property is perfect for your digital middle school math classroom. What makes this a Mini-Lesson & Practice Activity? There is a series of slides that leads students through the basics of how the distributive property works. Students can give feedback as they go along. There are practice problems at the end of the activity that guide the students to get the problem correct. Students cannot progress through the activity until the type in a correct answer. There are hints given if a student gets stuck. This activity is set to not let students progress to the next problem until they get the problem they're on correct. If they get a problem wrong, they're given a hint to prompt them and then they must try the problem again. I use this with my 6th graders. These are all very basic, low level problems for simplifying expressions using the distributive property. This activity uses only the variable 'x'. No negative numbers are used, although there are problems with subtraction such as simplifying 5(x-8). Special Design Features: Each question is treated as a separate "section". Students can only complete one question at a time. This can be beneficial for ELLs or students with special learning needs because it chunks the questions in a way that can lower the cognitive demand. Most of the questions have an image that shows the problem. This means the math problems are written much larger and clearer than if they were just typed in with regular text. The last set of problems on this activity uses regular size font. Ideas for use: Use this practice activity as a mini-lesson. Use this to refresh the topic for students who have already had some exposure to it. Add your own questions to customize the problems to match your areas of emphasis. PLEASE READ! This is a digital-only resource and is in the form of a Google Form. You cannot print this activity and use it as a paper-pencil quiz.
