THE FOLLOWING DESCRIPTION IS FOR THE FULL RESOURCE About this Resource: This resource is a study of the fairy tale Nutcracker and Mouse King, written by E.T.A. Hoffmann. The Novel Study Guide includes vocabulary with definitions and comprehension questions in the form of true or false, multiple choice and long answer. Students are meant to read the entire story, then answer the provided questions. Teachers can choose to hand the questions out all at once, or group them into sections. The resource is grouped into natural sections, such as vocabulary, comprehension, critical thinking, writing prompts, creativity activities, and graphic organizers. About the Worksheets: A series of comprehension-based worksheets make up this resource, along with Answer Keys. Vocabulary: 60 words from the story are listed with their meanings in either the order they appear chronologically in the story, or in alphabetical order. The words were chosen by how difficult they were to understand based on context clues. Each word is then used in 1 of 5 vocabulary puzzle worksheets: · Word Decoder: Use the legend to decode the word puzzle. · Word Search: Find the vocabulary words hidden in the puzzle. · Word Scramble: Unscramble the words to make the vocabulary words. · Crossword: Solve each clue with the vocabulary word that matches. Write the vocabulary word in the matching spot in the crossword puzzle. · Hangman: Guess letters to fill in the hidden vocabulary words. Guess a wrong letter and fill in the hangman. Finish the word before the hangman is done. Short Answer: 20 True or False questions are provided. Students must answer each statement as True or False. 15 multiple choice questions are provided. Students must answer each question with the best answer option. Long Answer: 15 comprehension and critical thinking questions are provided. Students answer each question with complete sentences on the lines provided. Writing Prompts and Creativity Activities: 3 end-of-unit writing and creativity activities are provided. Complete one or more of these activities. Graphic Organizers: 2 graphic organizers are provided. · Design Your Own Nutcracker: Design your own version of a Nutcracker by drawing and coloring the provided blank version. Answer key provided. · Travel through Toyland: Draw a map of Toyland using details from the story. Draw the route the characters take to reach the capital. Answer key provided. This set of Winter-themed learning activities is the perfect addition to your ELA curriculum. Your kiddos in Pre-K, TK, kindergarten, and grade 1 will benefit from the variety of activities this product offers. Within the pages you will find 16 flashcards with pictures and their corresponding word labels, 7 worksheets, 2 hands-on learning games, and 1 additional learning game in a Power Point format. Not only will these learning tools help strengthen vocabulary, but they’ll also give your pre-readers the opportunity to practice the concepts of identifying uppercase and lowercase letters and phonemic awareness. The 16 Winter-themed words are used throughout each activity and focus on holidays such as Christmas, Hanukkah, and Valentine’s Day. There are also terms that relate directly to the season of Winter such as hibernation, penguins, and snowflakes. Along with the aforementioned areas of learning, your learners will also practice fundamental fine motor skills with writing letters, cutting, gluing, and manipulating clothes pins. The flashcards and 2 hands-on learning games are available in both a color version and a black & white version. Most of the worksheets are also available in both versions. The 25 Power Point slides were created in a full-color version to entice and engage your learners. While the Power Point activity was designed as a whole class learning game, the 2 additional games are wonderful individual or small learning group activities. The 7 worksheets can be used in a variety of ways including large or small groups, individually, or a homework assignment. For your convenience, an answer key is provided for all worksheets. Below are the details of each activity included in this product. PAGES 1-3: Sixteen flashcards with pictures and word labels PAGE 4: learners will circle one of two letters that show the beginning sound of the winter picture. PAGE 5: learners will draw lines matching the beginning sound of a winter picture and its letter partner. PAGE 6: learners will color the “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” symbol to show if the given letter matches the beginning sound of the winter picture. PAGE 7: learners will cut and glue letters to the winter picture that matches the beginning sound. PAGE 8: learners will color one of two winter pictures that have the beginning sound of the letter shown. PAGE 9: learners will write the uppercase and lowercase letters of the winter picture’s beginning sound. PAGE 10: learners will write the first letter of a winter word that shows its beginning sound.
