Día de los Muertos Reading Comprehension Passage and Craft Activities for Grades 4th to 7th What’s inside? I created this resource with grades 4th to 7th in mind because I wanted something that makes cultural learning easy to understand, but still interesting for older elementary and middle-grade students. While designing it, my goal was to give students a chance to read, think, discuss, and create - all in one meaningful lesson. This resource includes: A reading comprehension passage that compares Día de los Muertos (Mexico) and Shradh (India) A small set of Día de los Muertos vocabulary words Pictures of both Día de los Muertos and Shradh ceremonies to support understanding A simple mask-making craft activity A scrapbook/collage project for team work A certificate you can award to students when they finish Resource features I wrote the passage to help students notice how both traditions honor their ancestors in different ways. The vocabulary list gives students a quick introduction to important terms before reading. Pictures of both traditions make the topic easier to discuss, especially for students who are seeing these celebrations for the first time. The mask-making activity gives students a fun way to connect with the lesson through art. The scrapbook/collage project encourages team work, creativity, and discussion. The activities and wording are age-appropriate for grades 4 - 7. Clear instructions are included so teachers, parents, and homeschoolers can use it without extra preparation. How to use this resource? Reading Comprehension: Students can read the passage and answer questions that help them compare and contrast both traditions. Group Work: You can divide the class into teams to complete the scrapbook or collage activity. Craft Time: The mask-making activity can be used during art time or as a fun cultural extension. These apple themed alphabet maze worksheets are the perfect activity to help students recognize capital letters. These pages are designed to be completed with dot markers for an added fine motor component. What is Included: This resource includes one capital letter worksheets for each letter of the alphabet. There are several ways to use these worksheets: Students will look at the letter on the acorn in the top right hand corner of the page. Students will then use dot markers to dot the follow the maze. Students can use mini erasers or other small manipulatives to cover the target letter. Students can use stickers to cover the letter. Students can use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to color the acorns that contain the correct letter. The teacher can laminate the worksheets and students can use dry erase markers to mark the correct letter. When to Use: Literacy Center : The teacher can place these worksheets in a literacy center for students to complete. Morning Work: These worksheets make a great, easy to set up activity for students to complete as classmates arrive to class. Quiet Time Activity: Students who do not nap can complete these worksheets while their classmates rest. Homework: These worksheets are an easy to assign homework activity for students to complete with parents. Small Group Activity: Teachers can call aside small groups of students who need more help with letter recognition to complete these in a small group setting. These worksheets are no-prep. The teacher just needs to print the pages and give them to students to complete. Laminating is only required if the teacher wishes to create a write and wipe activity. Skills Assessed: These alphabet letter maze worksheets assess students' ability to identify and match capital letters. Students can also work on fine motor skills by using dot markers or small manipulatives to complete these pages.

Does your Autumn ELA curriculum include parts of speech, particularly adjectives? If so, you have found a great product to help your grade 3 and grade 4 learners strengthen their grammar skills. Learning how to properly use adjectives doesn’t need to be a daunting task. In fact, after completing these activities, your learners will walk away with a newfound confidence in their writing abilities. Each activity includes Autumn-themed pictures and activities, giving you and your learners a full three month to incorporate and master the use of adjectives. While each of the 6 worksheets focuses on adjectives, your learners will also practice spelling, categorizing, writing, and identifying synonyms. The worksheets are great for individual or group work, quiet seat work, and/or homework. When you learners need a break, engage them in a cooperative group game that focuses on finding the most unique adjective to describe an Autumn-themed picture. There’s no better way to reinforce skills that with whole body learning. The product rounds out with a quiz presented in 12 Power Point slides. Questions are taken directly from the worksheets, reducing test anxiety. Not only that, but it’s a great way for you to assess if current learning goals are being met. All around, this is the perfect product for you and your learners. The activities can be used over the span of 3 months. The worksheets are beneficial for individual or group work, homework, or rainy-day seat work. When your learners are a bit squirrely, set aside the worksheets and engage them with either of the learning games. There are sheets to accommodate alternate spellings. How to Use: These worksheets are created so students can trace or copy the fall themed sentences or paragraphs. After tracing or copying the fall fact, the student can then color the picture at the top of the page. When to Use: Writing Center - These worksheets make a great addition to any writing center . What is Included: Number Mazes - There are two number mazes for students to color or dot the numbers in order to complete the maze. One maze is for numbers 1 to 10. The second maze is for 1 to 20. Roll and Cover - Students will roll a die and then cover the apple that matches the number rolled. Build It Up - Students will use counting cubes or other stacking manipulatives to build to the number on each apple. Counting Cut and Paste - Students will count the number of objects on each line then paste the correct number next to the pictures. Five and Tens Frames - Students will color the five or tens frames to show the number represented on each apple. Picture Addition - Students will glue the answers to each picture addition problem in the correct spot. Apple Graphing Worksheet - Students will count the pictures and then color the graph with the appropriate amounts. Missing Numbers - Students will write the missing numbers in each number sequence. Comparing Numbers - Students will count the objects and determine which group has more or less. Number Order - Students will glue the numbers in the correct order from 1 to 10. Shape Tracing - Students will trace each shape. Number Tracing - Students will trace each number from 1 to 9. Roll and Cover - Students will roll a die and then color one of the pictures above the number rolled. They will repeat until one column is completely colored in. Apple Graphing Class Activity - Each student will color their apple with which apple they like the best (red, yellow or green) and then they will great a class graph with their apples. Apple Basket Counting - Students will color the correct number of apples in each basket. These worksheets make great independent practice, emergency sub plans, and can even be used for homework.
