Themed Reading Comprehension Passages Series - Candy This reading comprehension series is built for grades 2 to 5 and keeps things simple, clear, and easy to use. Every title follows a fun, kid-friendly theme and comes with two passage levels, one written for grades 2 to 3 and a more challenging version for grades 4 to 5. Students then work through a mix of follow-up pages that check understanding in different ways: multiple-choice questions, short written responses, scrambled words, a quick summary, and a theme-based word problem. Answer keys are included, so prep stays minimal. Each resource also comes in nine classroom-friendly formats, so you can choose what fits your setup: print or digital, editable or ready to go, and even self-grading options. Because the layout stays consistent, it is easy to plug into whole-class lessons, small groups, literacy centers, morning work, fast finisher tubs, sub plans, or home learning. It is a straightforward way to build comprehension, practice reading skills in context, and strengthen written responses without adding extra steps for you. Create-A-Savings Story Writing Challenge |Saving, Spending, Generosity

Create-A-Savings Story Writing Challenge |Saving, Spending, Generosity
ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Grammar, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Money can be a tricky topic to teach. Even so, we know kids need to be better prepared than we were with regards to financial literacy. Investing, spending, saving, and generosity are all twists and turns kids can take as they get their imaginations rolling! Including the appropriate sequence of events, as well as a conflict is key. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun! These activities can be used with a whole class in addition to the writing challenge printable. This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders who enjoy learning about space and demonstrating their knowledge of it. By using the included matrix to choose the setting, challenge, and characters in their story, they'll use the freedom afforded them to create something they love. *Note, some learners may require a basic explanation of what stocks, investments, and savings accounts are. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4 extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

Rainbows Reading Comprehension Passage - Cored Ed Encyclopedia
ELA, Language Development, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Pre-Reading, Science, Earth Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Writing, Strategies, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Writing Prompts, Assessments, Quizzes and Tests, Quizzes, Lesson Plans

This rainbows reading comprehension includes: Visualization (on the front cover) Start your lesson by taking a minute to think and share something about the topic. Read the script aloud (slowly), perhaps prepare some music or sound effects. Student close their eyes and let their imaginations wander. Students open their eyes, read the question aloud and give them a few minutes to complete. Ask a few students to share or keep answers until the end to compare with what they learn in the passage. Quick pause—thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. Download links and encyclopedia index available here. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. Do some, do none, do all, completely optional - but you will feel reassured knowing every possibility is planned for. Includes summary writting question. Answer Key There are answers for the multiple-choice questions, written response questions have sample answers, vocabulary answers and if there is a summary question then a sample summary will be provided as well. Lesson Plan Included Customized lesson plan for this lesson is included. Lesson Snapshot Title: Rainbows Genre: Nonfiction (informational text with support pages) Subject: Science (Light & Weather) Primary Topic: How sunlight and raindrops make rainbows Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): R What This Lesson Teaches Best Explains the conditions for seeing a rainbow (Sun behind you; rain or mist in front; rainbow appears opposite the Sun). Builds a clear scientific model of how rainbows form (sunlight enters a raindrop, bends, bounces inside, and bends again as it leaves). Teaches that a rainbow is part of a circle and why it can “disappear” when the Sun is higher (the circle drops below the horizon). Connects science ideas to history of discovery (scholars testing with water-filled glass spheres; Descartes and Newton using a prism to explain white light and colors). Extends learning with aligned practice pages (questions, writing, and activities); vocabulary is mostly aligned, but “Refraction” appears on a vocab page while the passage describes “bending” without using that word. Learning Goals Students will describe where the Sun and rain/mist need to be to see a rainbow. Students will explain the “twisty trip” sunlight takes inside a raindrop using key details from the passage. Students will describe why a rainbow is part of a circle and what happens when the Sun is higher. Students will explain how two bounces inside droplets create a fainter outer bow and flip the color order. Students will identify how people helped solve the rainbow mystery (examples from the Middle Ages, Descartes, and Newton). Key Vocabulary From the Text horizon — where the sky seems to meet the land. raindrop — a tiny drop of water from rain. prism — clear object that spreads white light into colors. scholars — people who study and test ideas carefully. droplets — very small drops of water in the air. Opinion Writing Pack

Opinion Writing Pack
ELA, Writing, Grade 2, 3, 4, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

When you are introducing new styles of writing to your students, you want to ensure you find quality writing resources to support their learning. This is an Opinion Writing Packet that uses the TREE Format. The TREE format consists of the following acronym: Topic - What opinion are you going to share? Reason - Why is this your opinion? (The students will give three reasons) Example - Support each reason with a personal example. End - Sum it up with an ending statement. This is great for 2nd – 4th grade students. Included in this file you will find 5 opinion paragraph writing workshops along with some blank templates so you can choose your own topics. Students will opine about holidays, food, music, movies, and pets. Ideas for introducing the workshops: • Make lists of possible holidays, foods, music, movies, and pets to give the kids ideas • Show pictures and/or play music related to each topic to get the kids thinking about what their opinions might be • Allow students time to discuss their opinions with their classmates. This really gets their brains thinking specifically about their opinions and reasons for their opinions • Share ideas as a class about possible opinions. Some students struggle to come up with their own ideas, and this might help guide them to their own opinions These workshops are 1-2 day projects – about 60-70 minutes total, depending on how much practice your students already have with writing opinions and how you decide to introduce the topics. Each lesson focuses on a single topic so students don’t get lost. The writing is clear but never childish, making it perfect for grades two through five. Topics range from animals and science to history, inventions, and everyday things. No matter the level of the student, everyone should take away at least one new idea or fact from each lesson. Multiplication Fluency Pack

Multiplication Fluency Pack
Math, Multiplication and Division, Division, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Multiplication Fluency Pack Specially designed for children in grades 2 to 5, the Multiplication Fluency Pack provides a systematic and organized approach to learning multiplication. The teaching method focuses on one factor at a time, easing the process of mastering multiplication facts from 0-12. Flexible Approach Distinguishing itself from other methods, this pack allows teachers to adapt according to their students' needs. For example, every Friday teachers can conduct timed fluency tests based on the fact group of that week. The timing depends on the complexity of each fact group - usually two minutes for most sets and only one minute for simpler ones like 2's or 5's. Reinforcing Memory Recall During assessment sheets filling tasks, children fill in blanks that correlate with that week's particular fact group focus like __ x3 or __ x8. The sequence can be structured as follows: first doubles (e.g., 2s, 4s), multiples of five (i.e., fives and tens), finally progressing onto other groups. Tracking Progress & Engaging Parents The package also includes: A progress chart - allowing educators to observe which multiplication sets have been successfully learned. 'Home-note templates'- notifying parents about those who've mastered each set or guiding them on helping kids needing more practice at home. Multiplication Fluency Pack additionally includes: An internal tracking 'Star' tool indicating which facts have been mastered vs ones needing more attention. Teachers might award star stickers upon mastery of sections with special rewards when all is completed! A homework packet featuring self-check multiplication charts evaluated under timed conditions every Friday; suitable timers can be sourced from YouTube typically lasting about one or two minutes! Note: This educational resource is provided as PDF files making it versatile enough for various classroom applications including worksheets!
