John Dalton – A Short Introduction to a Key Figure in Chemistry Informational Text, Student Tasks & Digital Quiz (PDF + H5P) 🧪📘 A printable and digital resource for grades 7–10 This material introduces students to John Dalton, best known for his early atomic theory and his work on gases. The text is kept simple and clear, making it easy to integrate into lessons on the history of chemistry or atomic structure. It’s especially useful when you want to combine reading comprehension with scientific content. I’ve used this type of material when I needed something structured but flexible – for example, during quiet lesson phases, independent study, or even in a substitute teaching situation. It’s straightforward enough to use without much prep, and students can usually work through it on their own or in pairs. Here’s what’s included: A short reading passage about John Dalton A worksheet where students fill out a basic profile of him Quiz questions to check understanding (with solutions) Two optional follow-up tasks: – Write your own questions about the text – Swap and answer a partner’s questions Available in three formats: – PDF (print-friendly) – Editable .docx (text only) – H5P version for interactive use without images In the classroom: The material works well for independent work or as part of a science station. Students start with the reading text, complete the profile, and then move on to the quiz questions. The optional tasks are a nice way to extend the activity, especially if some students finish early. The H5P version is useful if you’re working in a digital setting or want to offer students the chance to check their answers right away. It’s a calm, focused lesson component that helps students learn about an important scientific thinker – without needing complicated prep or background knowledge. Critical Thinking: Debate with Yourself- Modern Debate Prompts for High School English or Social Studies
ELA, Social Studies, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Strategies, History, Psychology, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Critical Thinking: Debate with Yourself- Modern Debate Prompts for High School English or Social Studies This is a resource designed to get your students thinking about current issues. It provides five different prompts, inviting students to wrestle with modern issues across themes like personal finance, technology, environmental impact, higher education choices and social media use. In each scenario presented, students are tasked with researching both sides of an issue independently before deciding where they fall on the issue. A Twist to Classroom Debates This activity allows students to 'debate with themselves'. They need to collect support for both sides of the issue before determining their own opinion. This can work well as a small group activity or an individual assignment. Prompt Examples You have been approved for your first credit card (with a $1000 limit). Should you accept this offer? What are the benefits and risks, and what do you need to consider before signing up? You have been accepted into a reasonably-priced state college and a much more expensive university farther from home. What are the pros and cons of each option and which one would you choose? You have an 8 year-old car that runs well, but it is not an electric vehicle. Which is better for the environment: driving the old car longer or getting a brand new electric vehicle? How to Use: These prompts can be used in a variety of ways: Assign different prompts to each student. They research both sides of the issue and write their final opinion. After researching, you could hold a whole class debate where you either assign students to each side or let them choose which side they want to be on. Each side can present their points and rebuttals can be made. Students could (individually or in small groups) present their opinion to the class in a short speech or using a Powerpoint. You could use these topics and the accompanying research as the prompt for a persuasive essay assignment. What's Included: Title Page and a total of 5 different prompts in PDF format. Each prompt has a one-page graphic organizer to record ideas and write a final conclusion. Grades to Use With: These prompts are ideal for high school students in grades 9-12 who are able to research, debate, and/or write persuasive essays.

It’s kind of like a math minute in reverse! 2) Factor Practice: Picture Puzzle: Students identify prime numbers and how many pairs of factors composite numbers have. If they do it correctly, they will reveal a hidden picture. 3) Prime Factors: Students work with prime factors to make factor trees. They roll two dice, multiply the numbers, and then think of all the ways you could make that product using factors or prime factors. 5) Multiple Mix-Up: Students explore lists of multiples to determine which times table they come from. They start to identify which multiples will always occur together (for example, multiples of 9 will always also be multiples of 3). 6) LCM and GCF Practice: Finally, students work with all their knowledge to find lowest common multiples and greatest common factors. Grades to Use With: These pages are designed to be used with older students in middle and high school (grades 6-10). They could be a great review to ensure your students are ready for factoring polynomials, they could be easy sub plans to have on hand, or they could be a simple warm-up. These activities could also work well in high school special education classes. If you want more fun math practice, check out my store: Grace Under Pressure
