Math, Percentages, Geometry, Graphing, Statistics, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Projects, Activities

This fun math project includes clear step-by-step instructions to show your students how to make a circle graph. This is a great way to review several math skills while showing how useful they can be! Tasks include: - Writing a survey question: Your students learn to write a question that has exactly six possible answers. - Collecting data: Your students can ask the members of your class their question. They collect data using a tally chart. They need to ask exactly 25 people. - Recording results as a fraction: Once they have their data, they can turn each answer into a fraction with a denominator of 25. - Calculating an equivalent fraction: Then, they calculate an equivalent fraction with a denominator of 100. - Working with percent (written as a decimal): Finally, they turn that fraction into a percent in decimal form. They use this percent to multiply by 360 degrees in a circle (they can use a calculator for this part) to find out how many degrees each answer gets. - Drawing angles with a protractor: They carefully draw the six angles in their pie chart, one by one. - Labeling a graph: They label the graph to make it clear for others to read. Grades to Use WIth: This math project works well in the middle grades (4-8) when students know how to use protractors, calculate with fractions and decimals, and make graphs. It could also work well in a high school special education classroom. What's Included: A total of 5 pages. in PDF Format Title Page Survey Page Equivalent Fractions Page Decimals Page Circle Graph Template Standards: 7th Grade Geometry: Draw shapes with specific conditions. 4th Grade Fractions: Write equivalent fractions. Perimeter Worksheets: Perimeter of Regular & Irregular Polygons Game

Perimeter Worksheets: Perimeter of Regular & Irregular Polygons Game
Math, Geometry, Measurements, Grade 4, 5, 6, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Activities, Games

Perimeter of Regular and Irregular Polygons: Math Game Here’s a fun math game that incorporates critical thinking and math strategy. It could be a great addition to your geometry or measurement unit in grades 4-6. Students will practice drawing regular and irregular polygons with given perimeters. They will need to use math skills including addition, division, or knowledge of factors to determine how to make a specific kind of shape with a provided perimeter. This game is ready-to-go! Simply show the two sample rounds to your students to teach them how to play. Then each student needs a six-sided die and the three-page game. Students can play on their own or in small groups where they can share ideas. There are three rounds to play! A question to help students notice the strategy of the game is included. Students should notice that it is easier to make a regular shape if the perimeter is divisible by the number of sides of the shape. For example, to make a regular pentagon with the digits 5 and 1, I would make the perimeter 15 units, so each side could be 3 units long. A bonus question for early finishers is also included. ANSWER: A decagon has 10 sides. So, a regular decagon could easily have a perimeter of 10, 20, 30, 40 units. That could be hard in this game because the die does not have a zero. Grades to Use With: This game is designed for students in grades 4-6 who are learning about perimeter of polygons, regular vs irregular polygons, factors, and division. It's also a great way to practice critical thinking and strategy. What's Included: 6 Page PDF Teacher Instructions 2 Sample Rounds to Teach the Game 3 Pages of Worksheets for your students to play the game three times and answer discussion prompts to encourage critical thinking and strategy.

Silly Dragon Crafts - Coloring - Bookmarks - Geometric Designs
Creative Arts, Geometry, Math, Shapes, Early Math, Patterns, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, Crafts, Activities, Centers, Projects, Coloring Pages, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

These dragons are so silly and so much fun for kids to color. As is this entire dragon crafts activity pack. Kids absolutely love these dragons as well with their simple, thick outlines, they are a great way to give your students a break from their work and also be used as a reward for good behavior and an assignment done well. Since so many kids nowadays love dinosaurs and dragons, I thought it would be fun to create a dragon crafts activity pack. The simple drawings are perfect for preschoolers and prereaders. The bookmark designs, which are smaller and more complex, can be enjoyed by older students as well. There are five different dragons on 8.5 x 11 for a total of 10 posters - 5 of the dragons contain a colored example that children can follow to help with color recognition. These do not have a color border. The other 5 dinosaurs are black and white by themselves and contain a colored border. Once colored, the posters can be used to decorate bulletin boards, classrooms, and home refrigerators. They could even be framed and given as gifts! They can be printed and used again and again! In addition, there are 6 double-sided bookmarks with different geometric designs, patterns, and dragon pictures for coloring and printing. Geometry is math, so without realizing it, when your students color in the geometric designs, they are in essence practicing math skills. You can ask your students to identify the shapes and patterns on the bookmarks while they are coloring. You can also teach about shapes and patterns while they are keeping their hands busy coloring them. This can be super helpful in reducing distractibility. The geometric designs are great for developing familiarity with shapes and patterns. Plus, bookmarks make great gifts and encourage reading. The format is pdf downloadable and there are 15 pages, including the cover page. There is no need for an answer key as this dragon craft activity pack is pure fun with a little arts and crafts and math snuck in.

Drawing Nets for 3-D Objects: Applied & Real-World Math 6th 7th 8th

Drawing Nets for 3-D Objects: Applied & Real-World Math 6th 7th 8th
Math, Geometry, Measurements, Grade 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Worksheets, Activities

Here is an 8th grade math lesson that incorporates Indigenous cultural learning along with math skills for calculating surface area and volume, drawing different views of 3-D objects, and constructing nets for 3-D objects. Students will learn about indigenous bentwood boxes and practice drawing nets of these items to help calculate surface area and volume in real-world scenarios. How to Use: Print four pages of worksheets for each student. Go through the first page together to learn about bentwood boxes. Either show the video and webpages to the whole class or let students complete research in pairs or small groups. They must sketch at least one bentwood box and take some notes. Next, students complete calculations with the sample red box. NOTE: Assume the lid sits ON the sides (and does not cover the sides) like a true bentwood box. I have only used right angles here, which is not completely realistic for a bentwood box, but is appropriate for this level of math. The sides of the lid would have to be thick for this to work in real life. Students calculate the volume and surface area of the box and consider how capacity is different than volume in this case. On pages three and four, students draw nets for the three pieces of the bentwood box and use a simple scale (1 grid square = 8cm). Remind them that the box’s sides are made from one continuous piece of wood that is scored and bent. Finally, students can create a design on their net. See if they can determine what way the pieces fit together to ensure their design is oriented correctly. This is a great way to apply geometry learning to a real-life task, and it incorporates indigenous culture into your math classroom. Grades to Use With: This lesson was specifically designed for British Columbia Mathematics 8 curriculum, but it can work in any classroom that is learning about surface area, volume, and nets of 3-D shapes in grades 6, 7, or 8. What's Included: 6-Page PDF: Ready to Print and Use! - Teacher Instructions - Learn about Bentwood Boxes Handout - Calculating Volume & Surface Area Worksheet - Drawing Nets Worksheets - Complete Answer Key

Line Symmetry Practice Worksheets Grades 4-6 Here are four worksheets of increasing difficulty to help your students in grades 4-6 practice the following skills: 1) Identifying and drawing lines of symmetry on polygons on a grid. 2) Creating interesting shapes and designs that are symmetrical either vertically or horizontally. How to Use: Choose which worksheets you will use with your students and print a class set. Practice 1: Students look at six shapes on a grid. They need to draw lines of symmetry on each shape (one has none, two have one line, two have two lines, and one has a diagonal line of symmetry). Practice 2: Students are shown half of a large, interesting shape on a grid. They need to recreate the other half over the given line of symmetry. Practice 3: Students are asked to draw a line of symmetry and make their own half shape. They will trade with a friend and finish their friend’s shape. Practice 4: Students are asked to create a colourful design on a grid. Parts of the design should be vertically and horizontally symmetrical. The finished products could be a beautiful bulletin board display! These worksheets could be used in many ways. They can become part of your unit as activities during class lessons. One or more could be a homework assignment. You could even use one for an assessment of your students' learning.
