This product covers the 2016 Virginia (VA) Standards of Learning (SOL) 3.5: The student will solve practical problems that involve addition and subtraction with proper fractions having like denominators of 12 or less. (note that this will also work for the 2023 VA SOL 3.NS.3 b-d The student will use mathematical reasoning and justification to represent and compare fractions (proper and improper) and mixed numbers with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10), including those in context.b) Identify a fraction represented by a model as the sum of unit fractions.c) Use a model of a fraction greater than one, count the fractional parts to name and write it as an improper fraction and as a mixed number (e.g., , , , , = 1 ). d) Compose and decompose fractions (proper and improper) with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10 in multiple ways (e.g., = + or = + = + ) with models. It contains notes pages on adding fractions. It also has notes pages on subtracting fractions. There are practice pages for each topic, with an answer key included. The notes pages come in two sizes. The first size is a full-page size. You can print them as-is, or you can print them two to a pages. This is what I do as it saves on paper and the sheets will fit in a notebook. The second size is formatted to fit on a standard composition notebook page. Additionally, there are two links included in the pdf: one which opens a digital version of the notes, and another that opens a slide show version, optimized for a projector or interactive board. In both cases, which you click the link, you will be prompted to make a copy, which you can then use with Google Slides or download and use with Keynote or PowerPoint. What's included? A pack of 12 CVC Words Decodable Phonic reading books Plus 2 matching phonic workbooks to support learning. Created by an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. These books are preceded by our CVC readers , which begin to introduce vocabulary which is revised in these books. They are followed by: Level 1 Set 1: Common digraphs Level 1 Set 2: Silent E Main features: •The Consonant Blends readers only use the words: I go to no •All the other words are 4 letter, decodable words with a short vowel sound and an initial or final consonant blend. •Pictures make up for the lack of words, while not encouraging guessing. •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order as words gradually introduced and repeated, so building confidence and helping children gain reading fluency. 2 matching workbooks to consolidate learning and to help children to integrate their new reading and spelling skills into everyday literacy. Mixed Questions The mixed questions section of each lesson includes a variation of five comprehension, vocabulary and math questions. In addition, key reading strategies are frequently covered including cause & effect, summarizing, compare & contrast and making conclusions. Two or three of the questions will be MCQs and other questions will require a written response of some kind. Full answers and example responses appear at the end of the lesson. Spelling & Vocab Each reading passage contains a variety of words and phrases designed for Grade 4-5 students. Spelling and vocab activities provide the opportunity to build fluency with these words. As it can become quite mundane doing the same activities over and over, each lesson in a set will contain a different spelling and vocab activity .
