Anti-Racist/Diverse Read Alouds and Reflection Sheet
About This Product
In this Google Slide product, I have created a virtual bookshelf with 8 anti-racist, social justice, and diversity books. I decided to record many of these books via IMovie and then uploaded them to my private YouTube account. Some are from other readers on YouTube. Would I rather read an actual book to a real (face to face) student? Yes! But I found when I read books remotely to students, it was difficult because the students could not see the words or the pages very clearly. So I created my own IMovies.
This virtual bookshelf can be posted in your virtual classroom or homepage. You can also assign students a specific book or books for your class.
Students just click on a book and it goes to either my private Youtube read aloud video or one on YouTube. In the center of the bookshelf is a picture that students can click on and it will lead to a Google Doc I created as a reflection sheet that students can share with you.
Some books are geared towards K-2 and others can be for older students. Here are the books on the shelf:
Intersection Allies by Chelsea Johnson, LaToya Council, and Carolyn Choi
Let The Children March by Monica Clark-Robinson and Frank Morrison
Not My Idea by Anastasia Higginbotham
The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson and E.B. Lewis
The Skin I'm In-A first look at racism by Pat Thomas
Something Happened In Our Town by Marianne Celano and Jennifer Zivoin
Strictly No Elephants by Lisa Mantchev
The Undefeated by Kwame Alexander & Kadir Nelson
For more reinforcement activities and coloring pages to use with these books and others outside of this resource, I have a coloring book product in my store at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Anti-Racist-Coloring-Activity-Pages-5916762
to help reinforce these important concepts. Otherwise, please pass this free resource on to all educators to inform, empower, and support these concepts. Above all else, support these amazing authors by purchasing their books.
