Take your Pre-K and kindergarten learners on a journey through the Amazon rainforest with this fun-filled set of activities. There’s something for all types of learners as they focus on colors and animal adaptations in the rainforest biome. They’ll begin their journey with an engaging mini-book that tells about 10 rainforest animals. Created with beginning readers in mind, the story offers repetitive sentences, sight words, and colorful graphics. On each page learners will also be introduced to adjectives describing adaptations of each animal. Afterwards, each learner will have the opportunity to personalize their own book. This is a great way for them to build connections with learning and practice their reading skills with family and friends. Next, they’ll move on to several hands-on activities where they will strengthen foundational fine motor skills through tracing, cutting, gluing, manipulating modeling dough, and pretending to feed a baby hummingbird using a pipette. Along with those skills, your learners will practice concepts such as counting, writing, identifying color words, sorting, patterns, and following directions. Each activity was designed to meet current educational standards while highlighting the unique characteristics of animals such as the pink river dolphin, harpy eagle, black caiman, leaf-cutter ant, and red-eyed tree frog. You will note the STEM activities require specific materials, many of which can be found in your own teacher treasure trove or borrowed from teacher friends. While the craftivities do require initial prep work, they will add color to your educational environment. What’s more, your learners will take pride in seeing their masterpieces displayed during your rainforest themed unit. These dragons are so silly and so much fun for kids to color. As is this entire dragon crafts activity pack. Kids absolutely love these dragons as well with their simple, thick outlines, they are a great way to give your students a break from their work and also be used as a reward for good behavior and an assignment done well. Since so many kids nowadays love dinosaurs and dragons, I thought it would be fun to create a dragon crafts activity pack. The simple drawings are perfect for preschoolers and prereaders. The bookmark designs, which are smaller and more complex, can be enjoyed by older students as well. There are five different dragons on 8.5 x 11 for a total of 10 posters - 5 of the dragons contain a colored example that children can follow to help with color recognition. These do not have a color border. The other 5 dinosaurs are black and white by themselves and contain a colored border. Once colored, the posters can be used to decorate bulletin boards, classrooms, and home refrigerators. They could even be framed and given as gifts! They can be printed and used again and again! In addition, there are 6 double-sided bookmarks with different geometric designs, patterns, and dragon pictures for coloring and printing. Geometry is math, so without realizing it, when your students color in the geometric designs, they are in essence practicing math skills. You can ask your students to identify the shapes and patterns on the bookmarks while they are coloring. You can also teach about shapes and patterns while they are keeping their hands busy coloring them. This can be super helpful in reducing distractibility. The geometric designs are great for developing familiarity with shapes and patterns. Plus, bookmarks make great gifts and encourage reading. The format is pdf downloadable and there are 15 pages, including the cover page. There is no need for an answer key as this dragon craft activity pack is pure fun with a little arts and crafts and math snuck in.

There is also a set of interactive PowerPoint slides that give your learners the opportunity to use their sense of hearing via STEM technology. Some prep work is necessary for a few of the activities, but you will also find time-saving print and go worksheets. STEM: Activity 1: Two Australian tour guides will lead learners through 19 PowerPoint slides where they will listen to rainforest sounds and play a fun thumbs-up/thumbs-down game. Activity 2: learners will build a bandicoot pouch and estimate the number of bandicoot joeys that can fit inside. Activity 3: through the use of water play, learners will investigate the way water splashes from various heights. CRAFTIVITIES: #1: using glow-in-the-dark paint, learners will paint a glow worm and learn a fun rhyme #2: while listening to relaxing rainforest rain sounds, learners will use pipettes to create a watercolor masterpiece. #3: using peppermint scented paint, learners will create their own version of the Daintree’s peppermint stick bug. #4: with pre-cut yarn pieces, learners will cover the rambutan fruit in soft, hair-like spikes.
