Empire of Mali Activity Pack
About This Product
This is a pack of activities for a unit on the Empire or Kingdom of Mali, also called "Ancient Mali" - one of the great civilizations on the African continent. It includes a variety of activities, from quizzes to crafts. The passage and activities are geared towards a 3rd-grade level. It is 22 pages long. This was written based on the Virginia Social Studies 3rd grade SOL standards, which focus on how the people of Ancient Mali adapted to their environment, what contributions did their civilization make to us today, and how did they live and govern themselves.
Included in this pack:
Mali Vocabulary Quiz (good formative or summative assessment) - answer key included
Caravans of Trade Reading Passage and Questions (written on a 3rd grade level) - answer key included
Empire of Mali Know/Want to Know chart (my take on a KWL) - there is just the option for know and want to know, which gives you an idea of what prior knowledge the students have
Mali Brochure Craft/Activity - this is an excellent summative activity, the students create their own travel brochure for Mali, talking about the human and natural resources, the government, griots, and the environment
Coloring Pages - including the dessert, a Mansa (or King), a Griot, Timbuktu architecture, a map, and a caravan
