Each of the 118 cards shows the atomic number, the chemical symbol, and a diagram of the electron distribution across shells. This encourages students to actively recall element names and deepen their understanding of how atomic structure relates to the periodic table. I’ve used these cards mainly for review and partner quizzes. Students really have to think: “What element has 11 electrons and that shell pattern?” or “Which group might this symbol belong to?” It shifts the focus from just memorizing the periodic table to actually understanding the structure behind it. What’s included: 118 printable flashcards (PDF) Each card includes: atomic number, symbol, and shell model (no element names) High-resolution layout, easy to print and cut Suggestions for classroom use included Classroom ideas: Use the cards as a “Find the Pairs” game: Print two sets and let students match identical cards or group elements by patterns. Use them for sorting tasks: metals vs. non-metals, main groups vs. transition metals, increasing number of shells, etc. Create mini-quiz stations: One student shows a card, the other has to guess the element name or describe properties based on the shell model. It’s a simple but effective tool for bringing abstract chemistry content into a more visual and interactive format. I’ve used this set in grades 7–10, both in introductory lessons and for revision. What worked especially well was printing the cards twice and using them as a memory game (“Find the Pairs”). Students match element names with their shell models or symbols – and along the way, they start to notice patterns: which elements belong to the same group, how many electrons fit in each shell, and what the outer shells can tell us about chemical reactivity. Helping Students Reflect with Therapy Dogs 🐶💭 There’s something special about the presence of a therapy dog in the classroom. Even the most restless students seem to relax. Some kids who rarely speak up suddenly open up. And for many, it’s the first time they’ve had a chance to experience the unconditional support that a dog offers. But what if we took that experience and turned it into a learning moment? That’s exactly what this reflection activity does. It helps students think about what kindness means, why responsibility matters, and how their actions affect others—whether those others have two legs or four. Why This Activity Feels Different ✔ It gets students thinking, not just answering. It’s not about memorizing facts. It’s about pausing for a moment and reflecting on simple but meaningful questions. ✔ It connects emotions with actions. Why do therapy dogs have rules? Why does kindness matter? These questions lead to unexpectedly deep discussions. ✔ It’s easy for any grade level. Younger kids can draw their answers, while older students might write or discuss. No one feels left out. ✔ It works with or without a therapy dog. Even if your school doesn’t have one, this still sparks conversations about empathy and responsibility. ✔ No prep required. Just print it out, hand it to students, and let them think. How I Use It in My Classroom 📌 First, we talk. I ask, “How do animals teach us about kindness?” or “What do therapy dogs need from us?” The answers are never what I expect—and that’s the best part. 📌 Then, students reflect. They complete a few simple but thoughtful prompts about their own behavior, their emotions, and what they’ve learned. 📌 Next, we share (if they want to). I never make sharing mandatory. But I’m always surprised by how many students want to. 📌 Finally, we put up the poster. It’s a small reminder that kindness and responsibility go beyond the classroom. 🐶 One more idea: If you have a therapy dog visit your class, have students read their reflections to the dog. You’d be amazed at how much more open and engaged they become! The time before the holidays can get a little crazy in the classroom. Students are ready for a break and teachers are too! Keep your class engaged with EIGHT Days of math review! The ACTIVITIES are suitable for 5th grade and 6th grade. They are great for easy and fast sub plans. I use them as an 'end of the day carrot' that my students look forward to. They can't leave for the day without getting a step closer to finding Santa so it helps them to stay focused throughout the day so that we have time for the fun activity at the end of the day. One of the best parts: NO PREP required! This is not only great for distance learning but also great if you have run out of copies for the month and need a digital version fast... or if you just forget to make your copies for the week. (It's happened to me! - too. many things to keep track of) The pages do print beautiful in color and black and white if you have the time, but don't fret if you don't. Just assign it on Google Classroom - directions included. If you haven't taught the topic yet, it is a great mini lesson and if you have taught it, it can act as a review. (There are also some fun logic puzzles sprinkled in.) dividing decimals multiplying decimals dividing whole numbers multiplying whole numbers adding decimals subtracting decimals deducing information measurement conversions practicing with money problem solving graphing predicting and having fun! Each task builds off the next. Students will get clues as to where Santa might be hiding AFTER they correctly solve each math task. And don't worry, there is an ANSWER KEY. This resource lends itself to independent work but students can also work in groups of pairs to solve. Don't forget about the other holidays! Mathematics Binder Covers – Templates for Classroom Use Organize your Math handouts, notes, and units with visual clarity Simple and flexible templates to help organize your Mathematics materials In my math classes, it can be a challenge to keep things organized - especially when it comes to multiple units, lab notes, worksheets and review materials. To make it easier for my students and myself, I designed these simple binder sleeves. There are 12 different pages. The covers have a clean, colorful blob layout that is friendly but not distracting. I usually print them out and use them as cover sheets or as dividers in folders for students or teachers. They also work well for digital learning environments, e.g. as section covers in PDF files or on classroom platforms. I like that the color scheme allows students to quickly find what they are looking for, and it brings a little more structure to a subject that is often riddled with formulas and technical terms. When used as cover sheets, students can choose their favorite color for their cover sheet. This resource is handy - and has saved me a lot of time in lesson preparation and follow-up. What’s included: 12 math-themed cover pages different colors zu choose as a cover sheet as a divider between the individual Mathematics topics I've printed these on colored paper for my own binder and also used them digitally in student notebooks. Do you want your students in grades 5-7 to learn how to become global citizens who can respect a variety of cultural norms and comprehend cross-cultural differences? Are you looking for a fun way to bring all of these ideas to life? Check out this ready-to-go lesson for your class. This 5-Page PDF is ready to print for your social studies classroom. It includes clear teacher instructions for a fun class simulation where half of your students will act out a new "class norm" (five options are provided such as not raising your hand to ask a question) that the other half of your class won't be expecting. While the simulation is happening, everyone will be working on a three page reading comprehension task. Students will read about cultural norms from around the world (slurping noodles when eating in Japan or nodding one's head to say "no" in Bulgaria). They will imagine how not knowing about the cultural norms in a place where they are travelling could lead to accidental misunderstandings. Students are also taught a simple definition of the concept of stereotypes, and they will think of how they are different from cultural norms. Finally, there is a 1-page reflection with prompts- perfect for after a class discussion. Teacher Instructions: 1. Split your class in two and talk to only one half. 2. Tell them that they will have a new “class cultural norm.” Pick one from the provided ideas. 3. When the whole class is reunited, pass out the reading page & worksheets. Students read about cultural norms and answer the questions. 4. As they work, the selected half will enact their new norm, which will confuse the other half of the class. 5. Once the point has been made, let the other half in on the secret. 6. Have a discussion about cultural norms and give students time to write a reflection about this lesson.
