Chemistry Pennant Banner – 50 Main Group Elements to Print

Printable Pennants: 50 Main Group Elements – Holiday Chemistry Decor (Christmas Theme) This is a printable banner I made for my chemistry classroom, mostly to bring a bit of colour and a seasonal touch in December while still keeping it content-related. It includes 50 of the main group elements from the periodic table, each one on a separate pennant with the name, symbol and atomic number. I hang them up across the whiteboard or on the classroom wall, and the nice thing is that the students walk past them all the time, so they kind of absorb the information without realising it. The look of the pennants is slightly Christmas-themed, nothing too much, just enough to feel like it fits the season. I’ve done it both ways – printing the coloured version myself and just hanging it up, or printing the black-and-white version and letting students decorate a pennant each. That version worked well with a lower energy group before the holidays, and they enjoyed adding small facts or drawings connected to their element. Some made it artistic, others just coloured it in, but it definitely helped with remembering. Depending on the class, I sometimes only use the first 20 elements, especially if we haven’t covered much of the table yet. But with older students, we’ve used all 50 and even turned it into a quick quiz – like who can find the halogens in the banner, or name something everyday that contains element 13. I usually print the pennants on slightly thicker paper so they hang nicely, and if I want to use them again next year, I laminate them. String or ribbon works well for hanging, and it only takes a few minutes to put it all together. It’s a small thing, but it brightens up the room and keeps the content in view. Día de los Muertos Reading Comprehension Passage and Craft Activities for Grades 4th to 7th What’s inside? I created this resource with grades 4th to 7th in mind because I wanted something that makes cultural learning easy to understand, but still interesting for older elementary and middle-grade students. While designing it, my goal was to give students a chance to read, think, discuss, and create - all in one meaningful lesson. This resource includes: A reading comprehension passage that compares Día de los Muertos (Mexico) and Shradh (India) A small set of Día de los Muertos vocabulary words Pictures of both Día de los Muertos and Shradh ceremonies to support understanding A simple mask-making craft activity A scrapbook/collage project for team work A certificate you can award to students when they finish Resource features I wrote the passage to help students notice how both traditions honor their ancestors in different ways. The vocabulary list gives students a quick introduction to important terms before reading. Pictures of both traditions make the topic easier to discuss, especially for students who are seeing these celebrations for the first time. The mask-making activity gives students a fun way to connect with the lesson through art. The scrapbook/collage project encourages team work, creativity, and discussion. The activities and wording are age-appropriate for grades 4 - 7. Clear instructions are included so teachers, parents, and homeschoolers can use it without extra preparation. How to use this resource? Reading Comprehension: Students can read the passage and answer questions that help them compare and contrast both traditions. Sometimes it’s the background that helps set the mood for a lesson. In this set, you’ll find 12 glitter-style backgrounds, each in A4 format.
