Create A Candidate is an engaging civics simulation where students run for local office in the fictional town of Genericburg. Students review background information and statistics about issues facing the town. Then they create a candidate profile, choosing their background and political positions. Students decide what policies and changes their candidate will campaign on to address Genericburg's problems. They strategize how their candidate will appeal to voters and budget fundraising and spending. Create A Candidate builds critical thinking as students identify effective solutions for the town's issues. This activity covers key civics and government content in an interactive way.
