Winter Games Order of Operations PEMDAS Pixel Art
Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Winter, Seasons, Order Of Operations, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Activities
Rejuvenate your order of operations practice for 5th grade this winter with a digital pixel art resource! This order of operations (with parentheses) resource gives students practice with a vital skill in a fun, not-so-mundane way! For each correct answer, part of a Winter Games image is revealed. There are 20 questions that ask students to use order of operations to solve a problem. There are only positive integers used. Parentheses are included, however there are no exponents just yet. If the answer is correct, part of a Winter Games pixel art image is revealed. If the answer is incorrect, the image does not reveal and students should check their work. This is a self-checking activity, giving students instant feedback without adding to your grading pile! As an extension, there are ice hockey fun facts that are revealed as students finish the image. These are short and give kids something extra to be excited about, since they are related to one of the events of the Winter Games. This resource is no prep! The digital pixel art activity is ready to assign and works well for independent practice, a review day, or a technology center. A printable worksheet version is included, so you could easily assign the same questions as homework or use them for a small group of students who do not have computer access. You will also receive all of the problems in task card form, which work well for a math center, partner work, or math rotations. An answer key is included The different formats make it easy to differentiate and reuse. Students who need extra practice can do so, and advanced students or early finishers have something to keep them busy without giving them extra instructions. Since the activity is winter-themed, it is especially relevant during December, January, or a Winter Games math day. However, the content is generic enough to use all year for 5th grade order of operations review! What’s Included 20 order of operations problems (parentheses included, no exponents, positive integers only) Digital, self-checking pixel art activity Winter Games-themed mystery image Printable worksheet Task cards for centers or small groups Answer key Fun facts about ice hockey revealed at the end Teachers love how easy it is to use and how on-task the students are. Kids love unlocking the image with their correct answers! If you’re looking for a winter-themed order of operations math activity with high engagement, this is the one for you!

Winter Unit Rates Word Problems Digital Escape Room
Math, Fractions, Winter, Seasons, Holiday & Seasonal, Grade 5, 6, 7, Escape Room, Activities, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Worksheets
If your students struggle with unit rates, this Winter Digital Escape Room will give them the practice they need without the struggle. Rather than slog through another page of word problems, students are placed into a scenario where unit rate problems are a necessary part of bringing back the Frostbite Festival. This allows enough purpose to be added to avoid taking away from the math. Students work through twenty actual-unit-rate word problems set in four escape room winter scenes: The Snack Shack, Skating Trail, Yeti Workshop, and Penguin Performance. Students work with word problems related to cost, distance, time, and quantity from the everyday experience they realize from using unit rates. In order to progress, students must compute the correct answer and type it into the escape room. The escape room is a completely self-contained activity, which means students will not be able to progress with an incorrect answer, making this activity perfect for independent practice. One of the most beneficial aspects of this resource is the low level of work that it generates. There is no prep work that is necessary. You don’t have to set up anything, including logins and passwords and lock screens. You can just send out the link via Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, Microsoft Teams, or whatever tool that you are using. They just click and start. This autosave functionality comes in very handy during longer class times or interruptions. So long as students have had the chance to log back into the same computer and browser, they will pick up exactly where they left off. To make it more flexible, a printable version is also included. You will get a worksheet featuring all twenty unit rate problems, a matching version task card set, and finally, a full answer key. This is perfect for math center activities, small-scale intervention groups, or homework. Both the student and teacher instructions are provided and WrittenClearly, so there’s no misunderstanding or guestimation of how to do things. Students know just how to input their answers, and teachers know how to assign and use the autosave function. The skills which will be developed here include the understanding of the interpretation of unit rates, calculating a unit rate from a ratio, and using the rate in practical applications of money, time, distance, and measure problems. A winter unit rate resource that is engaging, organized, and actually easy to implement is not easy to find, but this escape room resource certainly delivers all of these things. Such a resource keeps students on task and provides a reliable no-prep resource for you to implement repeatedly.

Chemistry Element Symbol Game – Visual Matching Cards: Christmas Theme
STEM, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Basic Science, Holiday & Seasonal, Christmas, Holidays, Winter, Seasons, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Escape Room, Experiments, Projects, Centers
Chemistry Element Symbol Game – Visual Matching Cards (Christmas Theme) This is a chemistry card game I’ve used in class when we need something more hands-on but still connected to what we’re learning. It works kind of like “Dobble” or “Spot it!”, where you have to find the symbol that two cards have in common. In this case, the cards show element symbols from the first 31 main group elements. No names, just symbols – so it only works if students already know some of them. I usually bring this out in December, when the mood in class is a bit more relaxed but we’re still doing chemistry. The game moves quickly, and students enjoy it once they understand the rules. It doesn’t need any extra materials beyond the cards. Just print them, cut them out, and you’re good to go. There are 93 cards in total, with the same content but in three different shapes: round, square, and hexagon. I printed the square version because it’s easiest to cut, but the round cards look nice too. If you want to keep them for next year, laminating helps. I use it as a warm-up or at a station, sometimes even as a competition in small groups. The best part is that students have to look closely at the symbols and make quick decisions. It really helps with recognition. Some classes get quite into it, and others play more calmly – both work. You can also combine it with coloring beforehand. For example, color all Group 1 elements the same – that makes sorting and grouping easier later. It’s not a complex game, but it keeps the focus on the element symbols without turning it into a test. That’s what I wanted when I made it – something simple that still helps them practise. All the cards are included in the file, plus a short page with how to use them. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Winter Plotting Points on the Coordinate Plane Pixel Art Activity
Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Winter, Seasons, Geometry, Graphing, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Activities
Trust me when I say that if you have ever attempted to incorporate coordinate plane practice in the winter months in the classroom, you know exactly what I am talking about: restless kids, short attention span, and anything resembling “schoolwork” gets the side eye. This pixel winter-themed project removes all of this stress from your shoulders. It provides your 5th or 6th-grade students with appreciable point-plotting practice while being different from the norm. The best part about this is how simple it is: Students put twenty coordinate pairs in the familiar drag-and-drop interface. With each correct point placed, students get a glimpse of a puzzle image hiding behind the coordinate grid. Piece by piece, the complete winter image emerges. Even those students who tend to zone out in graphing class sit up straight knowing there's going to be a reward in the form of unearthing a picture. It's not just another graphing project—it's like puzzle-solving. And the best part of this process? This process is completely self-checking. You don't have to be right there in front of the computer, adjusting and confirming if the point is in the correct spot. The lesson handles all of this information by itself. A point in the wrong spot simply means the image doesn't appear. The students learn from this process and try again. You can also use this resource in multiple ways; you can use it digitally in class practice or incorporate it in your homeward assignments as an interactive way to review. This resource works perfectly after demonstrating the coordinate graph in class for the first time, during a spiral review in the middle of the unit, or even right before class if there's going to be a test. This resource fits perfectly in class because of the wintery theme; in fact, it doesn’t cross over into anything holiday-related. Here's what's included: • Digital no-prep pixel art lesson • Twenty drag-and-drop ordered pairs with coverage of all four quadrants • Fully self-checking format featuring a winter mystery picture • Easy-to-follow student instructions • Ready-to-use environment that can be assigned in seconds Teachers appreciate that this activity is fresh and interesting yet not complicated. Students appreciate that this activity is like working on a puzzle compared to other math assignments. And you will appreciate that this process provides you with reliable data from practice without contributing more to your grading stack. This Mystery Picture Activity in math class would be the perfect way for your students to develop coordinate planes this winter if you want the students to have fun doing math assignments.

Linear vs Nonlinear Functions Pixel Art
Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Winter, Seasons, Algebra, Grade 7, 8, 9, Worksheets & Printables, Activities
Distinguishing linear from nonlinear functions doesn’t have to be stressful and boring for you or for your students. This winter-themed pixel art activity transforms the task of identifying functions from being stressful and boring activities that bore students silly for you and your students. This is because for a long time, the task has involved hurrying through the activity on a sheet or making educated guesses about examples. There are twenty problems where students decide if the function is linear or nonlinear based on graphs, equations, and tables. This variety in representation serves its purpose. Rather than learning one concept and applying it throughout to ensure it works this way too, students make connections between different forms of the same thing. Each time the student gets it right, another section of the winter pixel art appears. When an answer is put in that’s incorrect, nothing unlocks to solve it; this forces students to go back and try again. This is completely self-correcting in the most positive way possible—with no penalty to be suffered by understanding something anew. There is nothing to prepare for this activity. You won’t have to set anything up, explain complicated instructions, or prepare anything else. Just put the digital version of this activity out, and the students can get started. It is perfect for a day when you have small groups while you are instructing, and you have the remainder of the class productively busy. You also have access to an accompanying worksheet that is printable so that you have options when technology is not an option or if you are wanting to do an assessment or review on paper. There is an answer key that you or your students are able to use if you choose to grade it quickly. Teachers especially appreciate the versatility of this activity. It can be used for class review or for independent practice. It can be used on the computer and worked on as a class, used for a quick assessment, completed for homework, or kept on file for sub plans. Early finishers can get right into the activity without further instruction, and struggling students will get immediate feedback to help them correct their mistakes. The students examine each function to determine if it is linear or nonlinear and quickly see the effect of this determination. This provides instantaneous feedback to give them confidence and conviction to move the process along. If you are trying to find a winter math activity that will reinforce an essential concept while not adding any prep or grading work to your plate and can do multiple formats, this pixel art assignment fits the bill. It is well-organized and fun to do; exactly what busy classrooms need.
