Chemistry Element Symbol Game – Visual Matching Cards: Christmas Theme
STEM, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Basic Science, Holiday & Seasonal, Christmas, Holidays, Winter, Seasons, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Escape Room, Experiments, Projects, Centers
Chemistry Element Symbol Game – Visual Matching Cards (Christmas Theme) This is a chemistry card game I’ve used in class when we need something more hands-on but still connected to what we’re learning. It works kind of like “Dobble” or “Spot it!”, where you have to find the symbol that two cards have in common. In this case, the cards show element symbols from the first 31 main group elements. No names, just symbols – so it only works if students already know some of them. I usually bring this out in December, when the mood in class is a bit more relaxed but we’re still doing chemistry. The game moves quickly, and students enjoy it once they understand the rules. It doesn’t need any extra materials beyond the cards. Just print them, cut them out, and you’re good to go. There are 93 cards in total, with the same content but in three different shapes: round, square, and hexagon. I printed the square version because it’s easiest to cut, but the round cards look nice too. If you want to keep them for next year, laminating helps. I use it as a warm-up or at a station, sometimes even as a competition in small groups. The best part is that students have to look closely at the symbols and make quick decisions. It really helps with recognition. Some classes get quite into it, and others play more calmly – both work. You can also combine it with coloring beforehand. For example, color all Group 1 elements the same – that makes sorting and grouping easier later. It’s not a complex game, but it keeps the focus on the element symbols without turning it into a test. That’s what I wanted when I made it – something simple that still helps them practise. All the cards are included in the file, plus a short page with how to use them. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? 67 Meme Winter Christmas Solving One Step Equations Pixel Art
Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Winter, Seasons, Algebra, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Activities
If "67" has taken over your classroom talk, now is the perfect opportunity to turn it into something useful. This Christmas one step equation pixel art task is riding off the back of the viral trend "67" and giving it a purposeful spin. Rather than seeing a math problem pop up, students see a task with an end goal, something they are curious about completing right away. Students complete twenty equations with one-step solutions for both positive and negative integers. The exercises involve all basic arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division so that the pupils get excellent practice without overwhelming them. Every time the child gives the correct answer to the equation, a part of a puzzle with a winter scenery will be revealed to the child, and in the end, the well-known number 67 will be visible in winter colors. The digital version is completely self-checking, providing immediate feedback to the student as they complete questions. Incorrect math problems will not be revealed by the picture, prompting the student to take another look and complete the problem again. I find this feature to give the student instant feedback and to give you time to assist other students as they complete independent practice activities. To offer further flexibility, printable versions are provided as choices. These same twenty equations can be found in a worksheet form, making it simple to assign for homework or in-class work without technology. You will also see a complete toolbox of printable task cards, great for centers, group work, or a scuttlebutt rotation. A complete answer key is provided for easy assessment or review by students. This activity is perfect when done in December, when children tend to be especially energetic and have a hard time sitting still. It’s exciting enough to be seasonal and entertaining, yet formalized enough to provide actual value in improving their expertise. It’s also a great go-to activity in case of an emergency sub plan with no prep work involved. The skills that have been reinforced are the following: performing operations on one-step equations involving all four operations and developing fluency with positive and negative integers. Students are getting repetition without boredom and feedback without frustration. If you want to bring a little bit of Christmas spirit into the mathematics portion of your day while still focusing on the teaching and the learning, the Winter 67 Pixel Art provides the perfect remedy. This is easy to assign and administer, and it is impossible to ignore, in the best possible way.

Periodic Table Elements Domino Game – Christmas Chemistry Activity
STEM, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Basic Science, Holiday & Seasonal, Christmas, Holidays, Winter, Seasons, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Word Problems, Escape Room, Experiments, Projects
Periodic Table Elements Domino Game – Christmas Chemistry Activity During the last week before winter break, I like to keep my lessons calm but still connected to content. This chemistry domino game has worked well in that context. It gives students a chance to revisit the periodic table in a light way, without feeling like they’re doing a full review worksheet. The game is made up of cards that show either the name of an element or its chemical symbol. Students connect the matching parts, so that the end of one card links to the start of the next, just like with a regular domino set. I included all 118 elements, from Hydrogen to Oganesson, so there’s enough variety for most grade levels. Depending on the group, I sometimes let them use a periodic table as support. In other classes, we turn it into more of a memory challenge. Some students take it seriously and try to build the longest chain, others enjoy working in pairs or small groups just to go over what they remember. The cards have a light seasonal theme, which fits well with December lessons. They can be printed on heavier paper, and I usually store them in envelopes or folders by element groups if I want to use them again the next year. No extra materials are needed beyond scissors and maybe a bit of tape or a surface to build on. The setup doesn’t take long, and the atmosphere is usually relaxed. Students still talk about chemistry, especially when they help each other with tricky symbols. It works well in classes where energy is low but you still want them engaged in something subject-related. All the cards and a short set of instructions are included. I’ve used it in different grade levels, and it’s easy to adjust depending on time and ability. A simple idea, but one that helps bring chemistry into the room in a different way. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? 67 Meme Winter Fraction Operations Pixel Art
Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Winter, Seasons, Fractions, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Activities
“67” may have become the de facto soundtrack to your classroom, and what better way to make the most of it? The Winter Fractions Pixel Art activity utilizes the phenomenon of the obsession with the number “67” and turns it into something positive and powerful for the math performance of your children. “ Twenty addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division equations are provided, ranging from basic to more challenging, to help students master the process of analyzing fractions. Correct solutions to all the exercises will unlock a corresponding image puzzle, and when completed, the solution to all the exercises will yield the magic number 67 in winter colors. It may not sound impressive to experienced teachers, but it is an effective tool to activate students’ learning on fractions when they feel they have seen it all before. It is fully self-checking, so there is instant feedback for the student. If they put in an incorrect answer, it won’t be visible in the picture, and they can rethink their problem. It also allows them to have confidence without you needing to continually check their work. There is also instant grading since it is completely no prep. It only takes seconds to assign. For flexibility, there are printable options included too. The same twenty problems involving fractions can also be taken as a worksheet, making it easy to assign it for homework, small group instruction, or days when it wouldn’t be ideal to have devices. A complete answer key is provided so it will remain quick and painless when it comes to grading. You will also have printable task cards perfect for math workshop, partners, or stations. Whether teaching online, offline, or a combination of both, this fits right in. This activity is best done in December and January when the attention span of the class is smaller and they need something just a bit different to hold their attention. It’s been formalized enough to provide for review days, casualized for centers, and stable enough to remain in your sub folder. Early finishers could complete this independently, and intervention groups could practice without becoming bombarded. Skills that have been reinforced include adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, multiplying fractions, and dividing fractions. This way, students experience relevant repetition without feeling burned-out with fraction operations. A winter activity for your math class that offers fun along with learning and doesn’t contribute anything to your busywork is this fractions pixel art activity with a theme related to the number 67.

Transition Element Flashcards – Chemistry Symbol and Name Matching Set
STEM, Science, Chemistry, Physics, Basic Science, Holiday & Seasonal, Christmas, Holidays, Winter, Seasons, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Task Cards, Quizzes and Tests, Teacher Tools, Escape Room, Experiments, Projects, Centers
Transition & Inner‑Transition Elements Flashcards – Chemistry Symbol and Name Matching Set Holiday Theme: Christmas This is a printable flashcard set I’ve used in chemistry classes, mostly with upper secondary students. The cards focus on the transition and inner transition elements. So we’re talking about the d-block and f-block – the ones students often find harder to remember, especially when they all start sounding similar. I usually bring this out in December when we’re still covering content but everyone’s a bit tired and ready for a change of pace. The cards have either the element’s name or its symbol. Students have to match the two, and they can do that in pairs or small groups. It works like a memory game or just a straight matching activity, depending on how much time we have. Some years I use the cards just for review, other times we build sorting activities around them. Like dividing the metals into transition, lanthanides and actinides. It depends on the group. Advanced students sometimes add a use or a property for each element as they go, which makes it more of a challenge. There are a lot of cards – over 250 – but I don’t always use them all. You can just print the ones you need. I usually go with thicker paper or cardstock, and if I have time, I laminate them so they last. Once cut, I keep them in envelopes and reuse them next year. The design has a winter look – nothing too bright or distracting, just something that makes it feel a bit more seasonal without being silly. I’ve found it helpful for lessons when you still want students to work with real content, but in a way that feels relaxed. Especially useful before the holidays or at the end of a topic on metals. Everything’s in the file – all cards and a short page with tips. It’s been a helpful tool in my December lessons. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? Winter Unit Rates Word Problems Digital Escape Room
Math, Fractions, Winter, Seasons, Holiday & Seasonal, Grade 5, 6, 7, Escape Room, Activities, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Worksheets
If your students struggle with unit rates, this Winter Digital Escape Room will give them the practice they need without the struggle. Rather than slog through another page of word problems, students are placed into a scenario where unit rate problems are a necessary part of bringing back the Frostbite Festival. This allows enough purpose to be added to avoid taking away from the math. Students work through twenty actual-unit-rate word problems set in four escape room winter scenes: The Snack Shack, Skating Trail, Yeti Workshop, and Penguin Performance. Students work with word problems related to cost, distance, time, and quantity from the everyday experience they realize from using unit rates. In order to progress, students must compute the correct answer and type it into the escape room. The escape room is a completely self-contained activity, which means students will not be able to progress with an incorrect answer, making this activity perfect for independent practice. One of the most beneficial aspects of this resource is the low level of work that it generates. There is no prep work that is necessary. You don’t have to set up anything, including logins and passwords and lock screens. You can just send out the link via Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, Microsoft Teams, or whatever tool that you are using. They just click and start. This autosave functionality comes in very handy during longer class times or interruptions. So long as students have had the chance to log back into the same computer and browser, they will pick up exactly where they left off. To make it more flexible, a printable version is also included. You will get a worksheet featuring all twenty unit rate problems, a matching version task card set, and finally, a full answer key. This is perfect for math center activities, small-scale intervention groups, or homework. Both the student and teacher instructions are provided and WrittenClearly, so there’s no misunderstanding or guestimation of how to do things. Students know just how to input their answers, and teachers know how to assign and use the autosave function. The skills which will be developed here include the understanding of the interpretation of unit rates, calculating a unit rate from a ratio, and using the rate in practical applications of money, time, distance, and measure problems. A winter unit rate resource that is engaging, organized, and actually easy to implement is not easy to find, but this escape room resource certainly delivers all of these things. Such a resource keeps students on task and provides a reliable no-prep resource for you to implement repeatedly.

This seven-page adventure combines learning and laughter as kids connect letters from A to Z to reveal adorable Thanksgiving themed pictures. Each page is a fresh surprise, with dots patiently waiting to transform into festive scenes. As students follow the alphabet trail, they’ll be sharpening their letter recognition skills while secretly wondering if turkeys always look this happy before Thanksgiving. (Spoiler: they don’t.) It’s Thanksgiving, and anything goes, except skipping dessert. Winter Plotting Points on the Coordinate Plane Pixel Art Activity
Math, Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Winter, Seasons, Geometry, Graphing, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Activities
Trust me when I say that if you have ever attempted to incorporate coordinate plane practice in the winter months in the classroom, you know exactly what I am talking about: restless kids, short attention span, and anything resembling “schoolwork” gets the side eye. This pixel winter-themed project removes all of this stress from your shoulders. It provides your 5th or 6th-grade students with appreciable point-plotting practice while being different from the norm. The best part about this is how simple it is: Students put twenty coordinate pairs in the familiar drag-and-drop interface. With each correct point placed, students get a glimpse of a puzzle image hiding behind the coordinate grid. Piece by piece, the complete winter image emerges. Even those students who tend to zone out in graphing class sit up straight knowing there's going to be a reward in the form of unearthing a picture. It's not just another graphing project—it's like puzzle-solving. And the best part of this process? This process is completely self-checking. You don't have to be right there in front of the computer, adjusting and confirming if the point is in the correct spot. The lesson handles all of this information by itself. A point in the wrong spot simply means the image doesn't appear. The students learn from this process and try again. You can also use this resource in multiple ways; you can use it digitally in class practice or incorporate it in your homeward assignments as an interactive way to review. This resource works perfectly after demonstrating the coordinate graph in class for the first time, during a spiral review in the middle of the unit, or even right before class if there's going to be a test. This resource fits perfectly in class because of the wintery theme; in fact, it doesn’t cross over into anything holiday-related. Here's what's included: • Digital no-prep pixel art lesson • Twenty drag-and-drop ordered pairs with coverage of all four quadrants • Fully self-checking format featuring a winter mystery picture • Easy-to-follow student instructions • Ready-to-use environment that can be assigned in seconds Teachers appreciate that this activity is fresh and interesting yet not complicated. Students appreciate that this activity is like working on a puzzle compared to other math assignments. And you will appreciate that this process provides you with reliable data from practice without contributing more to your grading stack. This Mystery Picture Activity in math class would be the perfect way for your students to develop coordinate planes this winter if you want the students to have fun doing math assignments.
