3 Quick Angle Activities to Practice Measurement and Classification: Acute, Right, Obtuse, Straight, Reflex
Math, Geometry, Measurements, Grade 4, 5, 6, 7, Activities
Do you need a few new ideas for your grade 4-6 math unit on angles (acute, right, obtuse, straight, and reflex)? This one page handout could be a super addition to your unit planning! There are three quick and easy activities provided to add new ideas to your instruction and help those students who learn in different ways. 1) Kinaesthetic Angle Game: Everyone stands up. The teacher calls out a type of angle (acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex). Students use their arms to make that angle. Students can make up their own "angle dance routines" and teach them to their peers. 2) Angle Scavenger Hunt: Students make a table in their notebook with the five types of angles: acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex. They look around the classroom, the school, or outside and record examples of each type of angle in the environment. 3) Angle Exit Slip: Want to ensure your students are grasping the concepts of your angle unit and learning how to use a protractor accurately? Copy and give this quick assessment . Students must measure and classify two angles and draw three given angles. It only takes five minutes, but it can give you very helpful information about which students in your class might need some small group instruction to master these concepts. Grades to Use With: These lesson ideas work for students in grades 4-7. For example, in British Columbia, Canada students learn about angles in grade six. In the US, they are part of the grade 4 curriculum. Career Exploration: Inquiry Project
Special Resources, Life Studies, Life Skills, Career, Research, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities, Projects
Through Career Exploration: Inquiry Project students will explore careers in different sectors including: - Healthcare - Business - Government - Education - Technology - Entertainment - Tourism - Construction However, this project encourages students to think outside of the box and research some more unique options instead of just the stereotypes. Instead of doctor in healthcare, what about phlebotomist, heart valve specialist, or paediatric nurse? Instead of president in government, what about speech writer, social media expert, or municipal clerk? There are so many jobs out there that students don't even know exist. How can they plan properly for their future without all of the facts? Each student will be assigned one sector. They will think of three stereotypical jobs in that field and then do research to learn about four more unique options. For each one, they need to find out the education required, the experience and skills needed, the daily tasks, and the pay. At the end, they will choose their favourite option from the four they have researched. How to Use: Assign a career sector to each student or pair. Give them time to complete research and fill in their chart . Have students or pairs present their favourite unique career they found in a simple powerpoint presentation so the whole class can learn about the variety of options available! Grades: This project is great for high school students (grades 8-12) in regular or special education classes. It would work well for a career and personal planning course!
