Through Career Exploration: Inquiry Project students will explore careers in different sectors including: - Healthcare - Business - Government - Education - Technology - Entertainment - Tourism - Construction However, this project encourages students to think outside of the box and research some more unique options instead of just the stereotypes. Instead of doctor in healthcare, what about phlebotomist, heart valve specialist, or paediatric nurse? Instead of president in government, what about speech writer, social media expert, or municipal clerk? There are so many jobs out there that students don't even know exist. How can they plan properly for their future without all of the facts? Each student will be assigned one sector. They will think of three stereotypical jobs in that field and then do research to learn about four more unique options. For each one, they need to find out the education required, the experience and skills needed, the daily tasks, and the pay. At the end, they will choose their favourite option from the four they have researched. How to Use: Assign a career sector to each student or pair. Give them time to complete research and fill in their chart . Have students or pairs present their favourite unique career they found in a simple powerpoint presentation so the whole class can learn about the variety of options available! Grades: This project is great for high school students (grades 8-12) in regular or special education classes. It would work well for a career and personal planning course!
