Coordinates in 4 Quadrants – Plotting Worksheet Set

Coordinates in 4 Quadrants – Plotting Worksheet Set
Math, Geometry, Grade 5, 6, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

This set of worksheets will enable your students practice plotting and reading coordinates in all 4 quadrants of a Cartesian plane where the numbers are positive and negative with a range of different graphic images leading up to points located on an x-y graph simply with letters. For each set of graphics (leaves, astronaut icons, geometric shapes, and letters) There are two separate activities: - Finding the coordinates of points on an x-y Grid in the 4 Quadrants - Given set of coordinates, locate their position on an x-y Grid in the 4 Quadrants In addition, for a final set of worksheets, again there are the two activities, however this time the coordinates or points drawn on the axis form geometric shapes. This provides a good starting point for further questioning or investigation that could include: - naming the shapes - drawing lines of symmetry and labeling coordinates on the line - finding the coordinate of the center of each shape - apply simple transformations and noting the new coordinates .......... How many Worksheets in total ? Virtually Unlimited, because at the click of a button all the numbers or positions of the objects are randomized providing you with a new set of questions for classwork, homework, revision, assessments etc. You could also use any of the worksheets to explain or introduce the subject to your class as you will have almost unlimited examples to work with and they will be different from the actual worksheets you hand out to your students. You will also have 2 sets of blank worksheets so that your students can create their own worksheets, or use them for the investigations suggested above Answers can be found on the second page of every worksheet, automatically generated when you create a new worksheet. Note These resources are PDF documents and work with the official Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows or Mac computers with the randomising buttons also working via a touchscreen (PC or Mac)or on an Interactive Whiteboard. Common Core Standards CCSS5.G.A.1 Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., 𝘹-axis and 𝘹-coordinate, 𝘺-axis and 𝘺-coordinate). Australian Curriculum Introduce the Cartesian coordinate system using all four quadrants (ACMMG143) You may also like Coordinates in the first Quadrant. Plotting and Locating Points

This Germany: The Heart of Europe (level r) guided reading book with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Italy: Land of History and Culture Genre: Nonfiction Subject: Social Studies (Geography/History/Culture) Primary Topic: Italy’s geography, landmarks, regions, and culture Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): R What This Book Teaches Best Describes Italy’s location and physical geography , including its peninsula shape, the Alps, and the Mediterranean Sea. Place Value Worksheets: Country Morning Work, Country Mini Project
Math, Place Value, Early Math, Geography, Social Studies, Grade 4, 5, 6, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Here is a super easy, year-long morning work routine for your grade 4, 5, or 6 class. It easily integrates both world geography and place value math learning! HOW TO USE: 1) Print the 5 pages of worksheets for each student every two-week period. 2) Each day, you will choose a specific country for your class to research. Choose the country yourself, ask for your students to provide their own suggestions, or play "WORLD"LE to select the new country each day. You can find "WORLD"LE by searching for it. 3) Project a website that has information about the country of the day on your interactive whiteboard. Search for "National Geographic" or "Kids World Travel Guide" for kid-friendly reading passages and fun facts. 4) Students will write down the country’s name and continent, draw the flag, record the population, and add a fun fact. Conversely they could also research this information themselves, if they each have access to a device. 5) Then, your students will complete five math tasks using the country of the day's population as their place value prompt. These tasks include: multiplying the country’s population by different amounts such as 2, 5, or 10 dividing the country's population in half adding to or subtracting from the population writing the population of the country in expanded form rounding the population to a certain place value spot 6) Take time to review the day’s country together. Ask your students to practice reading the large numbers aloud. 7) After eight days, your students will be able to order the eight countries they have studied from the largest to the smallest population in standard form and using decimal millions. 8) Then, you can begin the routine again! What's Included: 7 Page PDF: Ready to Print and Use - Teacher Instructions (With Website Links) - 4 Pages: Country of the Day Worksheets (Enough for 8 Days) - 1 Page Ordering Worksheet - Sample Answer Key to Use as a Model

Here's a ready-to-print set of 5 math stations that can supplement a middle grads math unit about area, perimeter, and volume of right-angled shapes. Math centers or stations are a wonderful way to get your students engaged in what they learn as they move around the classroom and work cooperatively with their classmates. Even when your students are in the intermediate or middle school grades, they can benefit from a wide variety of teaching techniques including the implementation of stations or learning centres! But creating these stations takes a lot of time, so let me do it for you! Station 1: This stations gives students four word problems to sovle that all involve geometry skills about area, perimeter, and volume. Station 2: This station gives students hand-on practice as they measure the volume of a real cardboard box. You will need to provide a few boxes and rulers for your students. Station 3: This station lets students design a backyard with different zones of grass, cement, a pool and more. They calculate the area and cost of each zone. Station 4: This station lets students practice calculating area and perimeter of complex shapes and they can try an online game! Station 5: This station lets students apply their knowledge to a real world math problem, and they practice carefully explaining their mathematical thinking in pictures and words. Break your students into 5 groups and have them rotate through the centers in 15 minute increments. Allow students to start at one station and move to another at their own pace as long as no station gets too crowded. Assign only one or two stations that work best for your students. Give a station as a quick review or homework assignment. Grades to Use With: These stations work well in grades 4-7 classes or high school special education.
