Two versions are provided: 4th of July and Canada Day: each version has a ready-to-print 3 page worksheet! Questions Included: Students need to figure out how to buy ingredients for 80 hamburgers at the best price. They will need to determine ways to make 80 using packs of 8, 12, 20, and 25. They will need to calculate the better unit prices. They think of ways a teacher could spend $20 to get some treats for her class with 24 students. There are inexpensive items like lollypops and pricier options like pop-its. Students should choose two different combinations of items. Finally, they determine how much a town would need to spend on fireworks and flags for their celebration. COMPLETE ANSWER KEY INCLUDED Grades to Use With: These activities could be used in grades 4-7 or in high school special education classrooms. In grades 4 and 5, you might do one problem together as a class, and then allow students to work in small groups to solve the other two. This is a set of printables used to create a birthday display in your classroom. There are several fonts and varieties of ways to do the displays. DIRECTIONS Print these off and laminate them to create a birthday chart for your students. There are headers available, and blank landscape posters for each month (which you and type on or print out and write on). There is also a pennant style where’re you can type the student’s names on there or write them or clip clothespins with their name on them on the correct month. In my classroom, I print the pennant blank and laminate them, then write their names in their birthday months with expo marker (note that if you do this, it is important to put your display where there will not be a lot of traffic as you do not want anyone's birthday accidentally erased). I have also printed the pennant banners and clipped close pins with their names on them on each month. It is recommended that you print these on card stock and laminate them if you want to use them for more than one year. Included is a powerpoint of all the various editable banners and posters. Phonics Strategies for 3rd & 4th Graders Part 2 is a 375-page product designed for students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade who are encountering advanced words in their educational and recreational reading, and need a program that goes beyond the beginning phonics building blocks. Just as later elementary students are getting older and more mature, this program has a more grown-up look. To keep the student’s attention, concepts are presented with multiple approaches including listening skills, identifying, decoding, written work, hands-on activities, pronunciation and spelling rules, letter-tile activities, phonics poems and phonics games. The phonogram types that are emphasized in Part 2 are: Vvc/Vvcc chunks, Vce chunks, and three and four-letter diphthong-vowel phonograms. There are hands-on activities for decoding words that end with ge/ve/ce/ze. 22 pages are devoted to advanced word endings (ture; ible/able; ous/ious/eous; tious/cious/scious; tial/cial/cian/science/cient, etc.). Worksheets on dividing words into syllables focus on three and four-syllable words. To aid the teacher/parent/mentor in presenting the material, included in Phonics Strategies Part 2 are: List of Contents, Tips and Suggestions, Reasons for Selected Content, Suggested Use, Mentor Notes, Phonics Pretest and six Parent Letters. The top of each activity page has Goals and Directions. The program can be presented by a teacher, teacher assistant, parent or mentor. Phonics Strategies for 3rd and 4th Graders is a mixture of phonics concepts and educational fun.
