Lesson Plan on the Sinking of the Titanic

Lesson Plan on the Sinking of the Titanic
History, Social Studies, Elementary, Middle School, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Worksheets & Printables

This interesting lesson on the Titanic accident blends language study with historical analysis. Students examine significant events leading up to the Titanic's disaster, evaluate variables that affected decisions, and improve their English through interactive exercises using a video and text. Students can share past knowledge during the warm-up conversation that precedes the session. The next step is a listening comprehension exercise that reinforces important information from the film. Essential nautical words are introduced through vocabulary activities, and students can arrange events chronologically with the aid of a timeline activity. A true-or-false exercise evaluates their comprehension of the narrative and promotes critical thinking. Students are exposed to historical viewpoints through role-playing exercises, which promote cooperation and communication. In order to improve their storytelling skills, they are also asked to write a diary entry from the perspective of a passenger as part of a creative writing assignment. A thoughtful examination of the reasons of the tragedy and the lessons discovered marks the lesson's conclusion. Through the integration of speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills, this session provides a comprehensive approach to language acquisition and historical comprehension.

Emotions Fan

Emotions Fan
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Not Grade Specific, Activities

IUnderstanding emotions is a key social-emotional learning goal for young children. When children can identify and label their own feelings and recognize emotions in others, they gain skills that benefit social relationships and self-regulation abilities. This engaging emotions fan activity helps teach children to connect emotional words and facial expressions. The resource includes 15 illustrated fans depicting different emotions. Vivid facial expressions clearly convey the feelings happy, sad, scared, tired, worried, excited, angry, disappointed, silly, jealous, confused, poorly, disgusted, surprised and embarrassed. By matching the facial cues to emotion words, children build their emotional vocabulary and recognition skills. Caregivers can prompt conversations about each feeling, as well as when and why we experience different emotions. Learning about emotions builds self-awareness. Children will gain tools to articulate their own feelings, rather than acting out. The fan pieces also encourage nonverbal children to communicate emotions through visuals. Beyond self-understanding, these materials teach valuable empathy and social skills. Recognizing others' emotions helps foster supportive social relationships. With colorful illustrations and essential vocabulary, this activity engages children in learning about feelings. By linking facial expressions and words, children will gain emotional awareness and language to express themselves. This promotes self-regulation and social-emotional competencies that allow preschool and early elementary students to identify, understand, and navigate emotions effectively. Phonic Reading Scheme for Older Students: 0-E: Book 25
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools

This O-E split-digraph decodable reading book + matching PowerPoint + 30 supporting worksheets is in a series that can help children with special needs pupils develop reading fluency. Each book has a matching PowerPoint, making it suitable for various settings. This book is set in Saxon England. The Jack Stories, of which this book is one, introduces one phonic sound at a time, and subsequent books build on the vocabulary of the books before, constantly revising and reviewing learned sounds. Irregular sight words are only slowly and gradually introduced. Science of reading aligned. Based on the most up-to-date phonic research. These books should be read sequentially as they tell one long story, each telling a part. This book contains words with the following sounds: CK: OO, EE and SH and CH, ND & NT Endings, TH, AR, OR, A-E, I-E and O-E. The series of books can also be purchased as a growing bundle with a scope and sequence - one file, less clutter! This series has been written with the aid of one of my pupils, aged 8. He has drawn some of the pictures. What makes this phonic reading programme for special needs different? · It has its own, easy-to-download and print phonic reading books, making it accessible to many children worldwide. · Each book carefully builds on the vocabulary of those that have gone before, providing much repetition, without relying on predictable text. · Pictures aid the storyline without encouraging reading from the pictures – i.e. guessing. · The vocabulary is based on phonic families, which are introduced in a carefully planned way. · True sight words – those that cannot be sounded out - are kept to a minimum. Most words are introduced in their phonic family wherever possible. · It is truly multisensory, using the power of the hand. We not only look at the words, but we write them too. This is powerful and has the bonus of turning the child not only into a reader but into a writer as well. 30 Worksheets to support the development of reading fluency The worksheets take the pupil from hearing the new sound in words, developing phonemic awareness, to reading passages in preparation for reading the book. It includes the following activities: Spelling Reading Tracking phonemic awareness Reading passages Typical signs that this programme can help: Those with dyslexia, or suspected of having dyslexia Difficulty recalling words when seen on flashcards or when reading texts, which results in no or little reading fluency b/d letter reversal of a chronic nature – i.e. the child has not grown out of it Difficulty ordering letters in words: E.g. top becomes pot. Difficulty differentiating between like words: spoon/soon; back/black; sheep/sleep etc… Difficulty tracking words across a page How long is the book? The reading book is 16 pages long. What is included? 1 PDF 16 pp X A5 Print as a booklet Flip on the short edge One 16-slide PowerPoint 11 Worksheets
