Northern California Missions eBook
Social Studies, Geography, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8,
This is a Northern California Missions eBook where the author shares details of his travels across the 21 Missions in Northern California. This eBook contains 46 pages and comes in a PDF ready to download if necessary! Spain had experience with colonization. They knew that land could be claimed by establishing a Mission. They sent padres, soldiers, and supplies for them. The Spanish learned that the Russians were exploring and maybe claiming North American’s Pacific Coast. The Missions’ purpose was to strengthen the Spanish Empire in Upper California. Not having enough Spaniards in the New World, they chose the Franciscan order to do two things: 1) to Christianize the peaceful Native Californian population, and 2) to teach them new skills: farming, making adobe bricks and tiles, carpentry, making wine, soap, candles, etc. The Mission era lasted from 1769 to 1833, a period of 65 years. After Mexico gained independence from Spain, the Missions were secularized in 1834 (turned over to civil authorities and the conversion of Mission towns into pueblos). The lands were supposed to be distributed to the California Natives. Instead, many of them were taken by politicians, their families and their friends. In 1859, President James Buchanan returned San Gabriel, San Juan Bautista, and Santa Cruz Missions to the Catholic Church. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln signed a document that returned the rest of the Missions to the Church. Sadly, President Lincoln was assassinated a few weeks later, and never visited California.

Are you implementing a C-E-R (claim, evidence, reasoning) writing framework in your class? Want to make sure that your students know the framework forwards and back? This double-sided review worksheet will show you quickly which students are still struggling with identifying claims, evidence, and reasoning--whether they're online or in person! Students will identify all printables /parts-of-and-anatomy-of">parts of the framework, match claims to appropriate evidence, and brainstorm real-life situations in which claims, evidence, and reasoning can be utilized. On the first page, students will use highlighters to identify the claims, evidence, and reasoning in four different passages. These passages are on a variety of topics, so students can see C-E-R's wide range of applicability. On the second page, students will match claims with their evidence. Then, they will brainstorm three real-life scenarios in which being able to argue and support that argument would be beneficial. If you're just introducing the concept of C-E-R to your students, this worksheet makes for a great overview of the concept. If your students know--or should know!--all about the framework, but need a refresher, this works great for that as well.

Homologous Series of Alcohols – Word Search Activity (Differentiated) A flexible review task for organic chemistry lessons (Grades 8–11) 🧪🔍 Alkanols Alcanoles This set of word search puzzles offers a quiet but focused way for students to review the homologous series of alcohols in organic chemistry. Instead of asking for definitions or formulae, students engage with key terms through active searching – which can be a surprisingly effective way to reinforce terminology. The material includes 10 word search puzzles , each in two variants (A/B), with five levels of difficulty . These levels are marked with stars (1 to 5), so you can easily differentiate within your classroom. Puzzles vary by grid size and by the direction in which words are hidden – from simple (only forward) to more challenging (also backward and diagonal). The content covers terminology related to the alcohol functional group and homologous series, making it a suitable supplement to introductory or review units in organic chemistry. What’s included: 10 unique puzzles × 2 variants (A and B) 5 differentiation levels based on grid size and word direction Answer keys for all puzzles Color and black-and-white versions for easy printing Chemistry-themed clipart to add visual appeal Ideas for classroom use: I’ve used these word searches both as a quiet review tool and as a warm-up or cool-down at the beginning or end of a lesson. The A/B version is especially useful for classroom management – students working side by side aren’t tempted to copy but still complete equivalent tasks. Students often appreciate the variety, especially when switching between more structured exercises and creative, self-paced activities. Whether as an individual task, a group competition, or a calming option during busy weeks – this resource supports technical vocabulary in a format that feels low-pressure and accessible.
