Breaking the Big Words Student Notebook Volume 3 is a word wall companion resource for the Breaking the Big Words: Syllable Division series. This packet focuses on the VC/V syllable pattern and includes closed syllables, open syllables, magic E syllables, vowel pair syllables, and bossy R syllables. Each page features a syllable type and pattern focus, anchor visuals, and corresponding Breaking the Big Words set numbers. There are 6 sections on every page for students to build word walls - 5 sections have example words that students can add to, and 1 section is for "rule breakers" that fit the pattern but not the syllable rule. This notebook is designed for K-2 students to reinforce syllable division skills. It can be used whole group, small group, during word work, or as a homework resource. With engaging activities and opportunities for students to expand their vocabularies, this resource makes syllable work interactive and fun.

The colour 'igh' anchor chart can be used as a word wall or as an aid to teaching the 'igh' digraph. The black and white anchor chart can be coloured by the pupil. The act of colouring helps the family of 'ai' words to be fixed together as a group of words in the child's memory. In addition, children can be encouraged to think of a story, using as many words on the igh' anchor chart as possible. How to use the anchor charts One of the great difficulties of learning digraphs, encountered by the middle and lower thirds of the class, is remembering which digraph to use for each word.
