Initial Sounds Reading Books Complete Set
Special Resources, ELA, Speech Therapy, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool,
This is a set of five first 'reading' books to help children to learn the initial sounds, or sounds that words begin with (beginning sounds). Each page has a letter of the alphabet for the child to finger trace, so practising letter formation. Each page has things that begin with that sound and at least one object that does not. Order, outline and steps: 1.Finger trace the letter. 2.Find as many objects as possible that begin with that sound. 3.Say the names of the objects and listen carefully to the first sound - the initial letter. E.g. ‘/b/’ for ball.It sometimes helps to repeat the sound initial sounds: bbbb-ball, or hold o on to it: aaapple. 4Praise your child and do not be discouraged if s/he does not succeed at first. Aim for the child to know the sound each letter makes while s/he learns to hear the initial sound of words. 5.After the lesson, encourage the child to listen for other words that begin with today’s sound. How can the Initial sounds books be used? You can use them in 2 ways. Either: 1. Have the child look at each letter as it is introduced and use the page as part of the lesson for that sound. 2. Wait until all of the sounds in each book have been taught and use it for revision. I prefer the latter way of using the Initial Sounds books, as when the child has learned 5 sounds, s/he will be so glad to recognise the sounds that have been taught in the book and it will give him/her a wonderful boost in confidence and a vital feeling of success. Try it for yourself and see! As you let each child read the book, make it a moment to mark progress. “Now you have learned some more letters, you can read this book!” Full instructions are given. Who can use these Initial Sounds reading books? They are suitable for parents/home educators and teachers. More Once a child knows the initial sounds and starts to blend, you might find our set of 16 CVC Reading Books helpful. What is included: 1 PDF 8 pages long.
