Letter B: PowerPoint and Worksheets: Lesson 2
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Learn Initial Sounds B: Lesson 2 teaches the first letter Bb, and its related phonic sound through a PowerPoint lesson and 5 follow-up activity worksheets. All you need to teach the phonic letter B! Whether in school or at home, this series of phonic presentations can help you teach initial/beginning sounds effectively to all pupils, including those with special needs/dyslexia. This lesson is part of a synthetic, systematic phonics programme for all abilities including those suspected of being dyslexic. This lesson is in the first stage of the Reading Made Simple programme where we teach the initial, or beginning, sounds. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound is stressed throughout, while we learn to associate each letter with its sound. Each lesson can stand alone but the activities will presume knowledge of the previous letters in the alphabet as Reading Made Simple teaches the initial sounds in alphabetical order. Special features of the Learn Initial Sounds B: Lesson 2 The PowerPoint is silent so that you can interact with your child in the best way for them: full instructions are provided at the bottom of each slide - be sure to show 'Notes'. Science of Reading Aligned Truly phonetic; no 'i' for 'ice-cream'. We focus heavily on phonemic awareness which is so necessary for a head start in phonics The child is given plenty of opportunities to learn the necessary skills - perfection is not expected in lesson 1 but the teacher will be looking for the development of the necessary skills as the child works through the alphabet. What is included in the 'Learn Initial Sounds B: Lesson 2 pack? A 23-slide PowerPoint which teaches phonemic awareness, letter/sound correspondence and letter formation along with practice games 5 follow-up worksheets How can the Learn Initial Sounds B: Lesson 2 be used? It can be used in multiple ways: As the child learns each sound, you can use the PowerPoint lesson to reinforce your own lesson It can be sent home for a child to watch with his/her parents after being taught the letter Bb in class - this will then act as revision as well as training the parent as to what is necessary to help the child. Use in class Use at home by parents or for home education Suggested Method: Introduce each letter in turn to your pupil. Have a flashcard of the letter ready. Say the sound each letter represents to the child and ask him/her to repeat it three times. Explain that some words begin with this sound. Give an example. Either use the lesson as teacher training for yourself to see how to teach your child, or use it with the child. Choose suitable activities (matching the ability of your child) from the pak of worksheets. Notes are suggestions only - use language appropriate to your pupil and be sure to interact naturally. However, do make sure that you focus on the hearing of the sounds at the beginning of words as this is much overlooked in the quest to help children learn the initial sounds as quickly as possible. Technical help: Use the PowerPoint in normal mode so that you can see the notes and use the 'Draw' tool when prompted. Some slides are interactive. More: Find matching Initial Sounds Worksheets here: https://teachsimple.com/product/beginning-sounds-phonics-worksheets Find revision/practice initial sounds slides here: https://teachsimple.com/product/learn-initial-sounds-powerpoint What is included? Beginning Sounds Picture Cards: Alphabet Chart and Alphabet Flashcards
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, ESL, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Charts, Teacher Tools, Flashcards, Worksheets & Printables
Alphabet Chart and Alphabet Flashcards This is a bumper pack of picture/letter cards to help you to teach initial sounds, or beginning sounds. It can be used by many different groups of people: parents, home educators, private tutors, ESL teachers, EFL teachers, SEN/D teachers, and generally in the Pre-K, or K classroom. The Initial sounds Teaching Pack contains over 170 picture cards, spread over 20 pages. It is in full colour. All vowels are marked in yellow to help children to recognise these important letters. In the pack you will find: An alphabet chart which can be used for display, or even laminated to make a placemat. Children love to use this to check their progress and see the letters they have learned and can recognise. Then we have 3 plus pages of pictures with the sound underneath, followed by the same cards without pictures so that pictures can be matched to the letters. Then we have picture cards for each letter of the alphabet; we provide 2 sets of these to minimise the chance of children memorising that 'a' is for apple without really hearing the sound at the beginning of the word. These are followed by 26 lowercase letters and 26 uppercase letters. These can be matched to each other, or to the pictures. Simple games can be made - can the child find the lowercase letter, the uppercase letter and both pictures that begin with that sound? Finally, we have two strips of vowels - one with picture cues and one without for children to practice the al important vowel sounds before moving onto blending and to use as a handy reference while learning to blend. Laminate the cards for durability. This pack will make your life so much easier! Teacher instructions and suggestions for activities are provided. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound of a word is a vital skill that is overlooked by many modern phonic programmes in the rush to get children to blend, but such a rush often leaves many children unable to blend as they cannot hear the initial sound of a word to start with. In turn, this leads to children who memorise CVC words, and from there on, learn to guess. Many of these children then do not make progress in reading, So this pack is very important to help make sure that every child not only knows the sound each letter makes but can hear that sound at the beginning of words. What is included: 1 PDF with 20 useable pages and over 170 picture and letter cards

Multiplication Charts: 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade 6th Grade
Special Resources, Math, Early Math, Multiplication and Division, Division, Special Education Needs (SEN), Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, Charts, Teacher Tools
These multiplication charts or times table grids start out with a standard 10 by 10 grid that teachers and students might be familiar with. Then, level by level, a single times table is taken away each time. I suggest teaching a mini-lesson or spending a class on each separate times table until you believe that your student or students comprehend how to calculate its facts. - 1: one times any number is that number - 10: add a zero when multiplying by ten - 2: double a number or count by twos - 5: count by fives & ends in 5 or 0 - 3: count by threes - 9: use the nine times finger trick - 4: double double This leaves just 6 times tables facts left for students to memorize: (6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 7x7, 7x8, and 8x8) You can print any number of the grids for your students to use (that way you can adapt for each student's unique needs). If you feel confident that your student knows his or her 1 and 10 tables, print them a chart without those facts so they can challenge themselves to recall them. This supports students as they work toward multiplication mastery step by step! What's Included: 9 Page PDF - 8 levelled multiplication grids in pastel colors - 8 levelled multiplication grids in B&W Grades to Use With: These could be useful in grade 3 as students start to learn their times tables. They could also be a handy tool for students in older grades who have IEPs that call for math adaptations or accommodations. The set includes two sizes of “Now and Next” boards detailing current lessons/tasks and then the chosen reward. Change the illustrated activity cards daily. When students complete the “Now” activity and follow behavior goals, they earn their chosen reward. In order to gain the reward the chart shows given targets that they should work toward which will personal to the individual child. Sixteen illustrated reward options like computer time, bubbles, or time playing with their chosen toy allow children to see the payoff for positive behavior. Teachers can tailor the options to each child's preferences. At clean up time, students remove their schedule cards and do a reflection worksheet.
