Silent e PowerPoint Flashcards: Phonics Presentations
Common Core, Phonics, Language Development, ELA, Spelling, Special Education Needs (SEN), Special Resources, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Presentations, Teacher Tools, Flashcards, Worksheets & Printables

This set of Silent E PowerPoint Flashcards has been created to help pupils differentiate between long and short vowel sounds. Many pupils, especially those with a processing difficulty, struggle to swap quickly from one to another, and therefore, much practice is needed. Aim and objective Once I start to teach Powerful ‘e’, I incorporate these flashcards into my daily lesson starter. My aim is that the child internalises the sounds so that on seeing a powerful ‘e’, they can say the right vowel sound and vice versa. This enables accurate blending and reduces frustration for the child caused by choosing the wrong vowel sound. How to use the Silent 'e' PowerPoint flashcards Work through the slides one by one. Teach the child to say the name made by the letters, followed by the word. They can use the picture as a cue. Do not underestimate the role of the picture to help the child give the correct sound. The more the correct sound is given, the sooner the child will internalise the sounds. Once the pupil seems confident, try using the set of slides without pictures! This can be done in stages, removing the pictures for the short vowel sounds first. Always return to the pictures if the child begins to choose the wrong vowel sound. We do not want them to struggle, even though we want to help them recall the correct sound. A balance must be found. What is included: Five vowel flashcards with picture cues Four Silent 'e' flashcards with picture cues (I do not teach E_E in the early stages as the few words with this sound that a child needs are best taught as sight words (e.g. here). Five vowel flashcards without picture cues Four Silent 'e' flashcards without picture cues An activity An Activity: The activity involves words appearing on the screen one by one. The child is asked: Does it have an ‘e’? Yes, or no. What sound will the vowel make? (short sound, or long name) Can you sound out the word using that vowel sound? Click for the next word. The words can be edited to change the activity. The PowerPoint is A4 format, so the slides can be printed out to form physical matching flashcards.

ABC Game – Match the Letters with a Soccer Twist | Elementary & ESL Similar to Dobble / Spot it! A playful alphabet recognition game for preschool and early elementary (Pre-K to 3st grade) ⚽🔤 This classroom game helps children explore and recognize the letters of the alphabet through play. Based on the well-known “Find the Twin” format (similar to Dobble or Spot It!), this resource invites learners to engage visually and socially while building basic literacy skills. Each card shows six symbols or letters. The goal: find the matching symbol between two cards – as fast as you can! The game can be played in pairs or small groups and is great for active classroom moments, literacy stations, or early finisher time. What I’ve enjoyed about this kind of activity in my own teaching is that it doesn’t require much prep, but it sparks a lot of focus and excitement. It’s also easy to adapt – whether you want to emphasize letter names, sounds, or visual scanning. What’s included: 62 cards total – 2 versions with 31 cards each – Round cards – Cut-out-friendly square cards Each card includes 6 images Clear visuals and simple layout for young learners Instructions included Ideas for classroom use: You can print the cards on regular paper or cardstock. Laminate them for durability if you plan to use them often. I’ve used these games during phonics lessons, as part of morning rotations, or as a “quiet movement” activity when students needed a break from sitting. The structure helps students work on focus, comparison, and visual discrimination – all useful skills for early reading development. At the same time, they practice taking turns and cooperating, which supports classroom community. Simple, flexible, and always well received – this game adds a playful twist to everyday alphabet learning. A low-prep, high-impact way to make learning the alphabet more interactive – and fun. Warm regards, Lernfitness Did You Know? I teach with a certified therapy dog, and together we focus on creating a positive and inspiring learning environment.

This resource is a BUNDLE of the Dolch Sight Words Flash Cards and the Fry Sight Words Flash Cards. Flash Cards introduce words and promote comprehension through memorization and repetition. They can be used in a group setting or individually for practice. This set includes a teacher guide, the Dolch sight words flash cards, the Fry sight words flash cards, and blank flash cards. These Flash Cards can be used to help students begin their literacy journey. The individual titles included in this BUNDLE are: DOLCH SIGHT WORDS Flash Cards and FRY SIGHT WORDS Flash Cards. About this Combined Resource: This resource includes all 315 Dolch Sight Words and 1000 Fry Sight Words in a Flash Cards format. Organized in groups of 10, teachers can cut out each flash card for easy use with their students. The Flash Cards are separated by grades and nouns. Teachers can choose to focus on cards by grade, or mix them up for an overall activity . Included in this resource are customized origami-styled envelopes that can be used to keep each set of Flash Cards organized. Instructions on how to fold the envelopes can be found on page 4. About Flash Cards: Flash Cards are small cards that have a little amount of information on them. These cards are held up for students to see to help with learning. Flash Cards can be used in groups as drill activities, or alone for private study. Although Flash Cards can contain any form of information, for the purposes of this resource, each Flash Card contains a vocabulary word. Overall, Flash Cards are used as a learning drill to help with memorization through repetition. Students can quickly and easily learn vocabulary words by using Flash Cards in their everyday study. Flash Cards exercise the mental processes of students’ brains. With repeated practice, students will learn to associate words with their spelling. About Dolch Sight Words: In 1948, Edward William Dolch, PhD created his list of the most common 220 words and 95 nouns in children’s books. These words were then divided into grade levels, including pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and verbs. Nouns made up a separate list of 95 words. The list used 220 “service words” that should be easily recognized in order for students to become fluent in reading. The Dolch words are “Sight Words” because many of them cannot be sounded out. Instead, they must be learned by sight. In other words, memorization. These sight words provide a basis for reading at a young age. Students must become familiar with these words as they begin to read in order to become successful readers as they progress through their academic career. About Fry Sight Words: In 1996, Dr. Edward B. Fry expanded on Dolch’s list of 220 Sight Words and 95 common nouns. This list included 1000 of the most common words used in the English language ranked by frequency. Labeled as “Instant Words”, Fry’s list came to be known as “Fry Words”. These words are typically broken down into groups of 100, and separated by grades kindergarten to first grade, second to third grade, and fourth to fifth grade. Learning all 1000 words in this modern list of Sight Words will allow students to be able to read about 90% of the words used in a typical book.

Phonic Spelling Programme Level 1 Ages 7+

Phonic Spelling Programme Level 1 Ages 7+
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Outlines, Worksheets & Printables, Flashcards, Workbooks

This is a Phonic spelling programme. Not only will it teach a child to spell, but also to write. Just add a good handwriting programme. The spelling programme can be used with all ages from 5 to 99, however, if used with a young learner I strongly advise using the programme to teach both reading and spelling at the same time. See the website for more information and resources to teach young children. The spelling programme can be used: with children who have learnt to read, but need a spelling/writing programme with children who have tried another phonic programme and not made much progress with reading and/or spelling/writing with a special needs child who needs a very structured approach to learning by home educators by parents wishing to help their child at home About the programme The programme is very flexible and can be made to fit the child, rather than the child to fit the programme. Being highly structured, each new lesson builds on the one before, constantly revising the previously taught material The spelling programme will take 41 weeks to teach. One new sound is taught each week. What is included? The teacher's manual with full lesson plans and helpful teaching tips A list of the keywords for each lesson with the phonic sound highlighted - for practice and revision 39 spelling worksheets The Reading Made Simple Phonic flashcards The Odd Word flashcards About the worksheets The worksheets use time-honoured exercises to help pupils to become familiar with the new sound and revise previously taught ones. They include such exercises as tracking the new sound in words, proofreading as well as comprehension questions. Children generally find them fun because they are so easy due to the way learning is structured throughout the programme. More information If you would like more information about the spelling programme, then please visit the Reading Made Simple website. The same programme and set of worksheets can also be used to help an older child read, one who has some phonic knowledge but needs the gaps filled in a systematic manner.
