Winter No Prep Math Worksheets (VA SOL aligned): Print these off and use them as formative assessments , classwork, homework, or when you need to be out for a sub day. They cover the following topics: -place value, rounding, comparing, and ordering numbers -bar graphs and pictographs -addition and subtraction and word problems -Multiplication and division -telling time (to the nearest minute), elapsed time (to the nearest hour), and equivalent time -counting money, comparing money, and making change -measuring length and capacity There are two sets of worksheets. The first set has between 8-10 questions per topic, except graphing which has fewer. Then there is a second set for those students who have the accommodation of shortening assignments, students who struggle to complete their work, or students who need to redo a sheet to get more practice. This second set has no more than 5 questions per topic, though it still covers all the topics listed above. The product also comes with an answer key for each worksheet. While all the worksheets are two-sided (or more), the answer keys are all on one page to make grading easier. This product was created with the 3rd grade Virginia SOLs, covering the SOLs of 3.1, 3.3, 3.15, 3.4, 3.6, and 3.9. It can still be used by other grades/states. Here’s an engaging, summer-themed, real-world math budget project for your middle grades students (in grades 5-8). The math project incorporates useful personal finance and financial literacy skills along with realistic budgeting. Each student in your class is going to plan their purchases for a summer camping trip with friends! How to Use: You will assign each student in your class a budget (I recommend between $400-$1,750). A $400 budget will be challenging, and the student might only be able to bring one friend and buy mainly low-cost items. On the other hand, a $1,750 budget will be much more luxurious, and that student will be able to more friends and choose many fancy items. Students work within their budgets, picking a low, middle, or high-cost choice for each category (tent, sleeping bag, cooler chairs, food and more). Certain items must be multiplied by the total number of campers while others (like a stove) do not. Students will add up their eleven choices and make sure they stay within their budget. They might need to make a few trade-offs and skip desired items to ensure they have the things they can't camp without. Finally, your students will calculate how much money they have left, and they will answer reflection questions shopping within a budget, earning more money, or buying things used. There are a number of alternative methods used to solve these problems (and especially with 2 & 3 digit numbers), but the standard algorithm at this level is probably the best preparation your pupils can have for working with decimal numbers which will follow in Grade 5.These sets of worksheets focus on addition and subtraction working primarily with 4 and 5 digit numbers. On each Worksheet there are three buttons, each of which will randomise the numbers in the questions at 3 levels, namely addition and subtraction with: -4 digit numbers only -5 digit numbers only -A mix of 3,4 or 5 digit numbers The questions are presented in the standard column format so students can start working on them straight away. How many worksheets are in each set ? Lots and lots. At the click of a button all numbers are randomised, so the questions change every time. This will allow you to create as many new worksheets you will need for practice throughout the year or even give groups of pupils in your class different sets of questions. This engaging and useful stock market project can teach your high school students all about several financial literacy topics: investing their savings, buying shares (stocks) in a company, calculating their gains and losses, investment volatility, calculating the mean, length of investment (time horizon) and more! This engaging place value activity helps reinforce place value skills to the billions using the populations of countries around the world. It is an interesting and relevant way for students in the intermediate or middle school grades (grade 4, grade 5, grade 6, grade 7, or grade 8), and it could easily tie in with your social studies curriculum. If students have individual devices and internet access, they can search for the populations of the countries independently. If not, you could find the populations and then read them aloud for students to record- which is actually a great way to practice place value skills too! Then students will need to work with the numbers: rounding, ordering, estimating, and calculating. This activity can work well when completed in partners, small groups, or independently- it could even be a homework task! Grades to Use With: This activity works well in the middle grades (from grades 4-8) or in a high school special education classroom. How to Use: Students need to find the populations of 10 countries: Turkey, Chile, Brazil, China, Canada, United States, Israel, Iceland, Ethiopia, and Mexico. They write each population in standard form and then round to decimal millions (for example 37.2 million). Next, they write the countries' populations in order from smallest to largest and answer some questions that compare the populations. They also write three of the populations in expanded form, and calculate the exact difference between two of the countries- all great ways to practice place value in real world tasks!
