OR Phonic Worksheets for Early Years/Intervention
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Vocabulary, Spelling, Writing, Grade 1, 2, 3, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
This is a pack of 12 phonic worksheets for the sound OR (as in short) specially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. A pack of 12 worksheets with a variety of exercises to help build phonemic awareness and reading fluency. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? 12 worksheets for the sound OR taking pupils from hearing the sounds in words to reading and spelling them at word and sentence level. all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Your phonics lessons are covered! Tracking, fluency triangles, spelling, reading, games, comprehension exercises....and more! Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 12 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give the dictation a week after we finish the work on the EA sound to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included of some common OR words. What is included? 1 PDF with flashcards and 12 OR worksheets

The Constitution is a Living Document
Social Studies, Government, Grade 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12,
"The Constitution is a Living Document" is a comprehensive project designed to assess students’ knowledge and understanding of Articles 1, 2, and 3, as well as 7 amendments in several ways. The project is divided into 3 sections. Section 1 covers the Constitution (Articles 1, 2, and 3) and includes an essay and analyzing news articles. Section 2 covers the Amendments and includes an essay and analyzing news articles. Section 3 includes a conclusion essay and the bibliography. Students will apply their understanding of Articles 1, 2, and 3 as well as certain amendments by finding an article about an event in the United States (either online or from a newspaper), summarizing the article, and then analyzing how this article connects to the Constitution. There are also some extra credit opportunities. Although this project stands on its own after students have studied both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights either by using a textbook or other materials, it is an excellent summative assessment for my lessons on Articles 1, 2, and 3 and The Bill of Rights Unit, both of which are sold in my store. This summative project is perfect for students in Grades 7 through 12 and can be easily modified based on grade level and can be used for all students: ELL, RSP, Gate, and regular. The most important thing about this project is how students truly internalize how the Constitution is not just some old stuffy document but really is alive in our lives and protects our rights and our democracy. I have had students come back to me when they are in high school to tell me how much they got out of this project. I have also had several students tell me they helped their immigrant parents pass the citizenship test. They were able to teach their parents about our government. My favorite is how many 8th-grade students tell me they are now interested in current events and regularly follow the news! This project is part of my unit: “Our Living Consitution” which is designed using the Into, Through, and Beyond model of lesson planning. This project can be taught independently, but it is an excellent summative assessment for all my lessons on the Constitution in my unit. The lessons in the Constitution unit can be used independently or as a supplement to what you already teach or as a whole. Here is a summary of what is in the unit: You might be interested in my other Constitution-related lessons, many of which can be found in my bundle: Our Living Constitution. In the 1880s Tesla and Edison carried out the famous “War of the Currents”, as they each tried to establish their own versions of electric currents as the preeminent standard for widespread use. Edison may now be better known, but this doesn’t diminish Tesla’s incredible accomplishments in advancing modern technology."

Tribute to: 9/11, Veteran's Day & Memorial Day
Social Studies, History, History: USA, Grade 5, 6, 7,
If you're seeking a way to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, this Tribute to: 9/11, Veteran's Day & Memorial Day resource is designed to evoke thoughtful contemplation among 5-7th graders about those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The core of Tribute to: 9/11, Veteran's Day & Memorial Day lies in a PBL 9/11 Web Quest and Photo Journalism activity , fostering collaboration within challenging, exciting, and enjoyable group projects. It is a genuine opportunity for your class to grasp the genuine essence of heroism. John and Joe Vigiano, two heroic brothers - one a police detective, the other a firefighter - lost their lives in the tragedy of 9/11. Though I never had the chance to meet them, their connection to my family through my cousin's wife holds a special place in my heart. As a tribute to them and all who endured great losses on that fateful day, I dedicate this 9/11 activity . The Veteran's Day & Memorial Day activities hold a profound personal significance to me, as they center around a caring, honest, and courageous young man I once taught in 6th grade. Capt. Andrew Pedersen Keel, my former student, made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan, and these activities honor his memory. Above all, my deepest hope is for your students to develop empathy towards those who fought and laid down their lives to safeguard our freedom. Through my Tribute to: 9/11, Veteran's Day & Memorial Day, I aspire to instill a sense of appreciation and understanding in your students for the sacrifices made by these brave individuals. ✔COMMON CORE STANDARDS ✔W.5.1a,W.5.1c,W.5.1d,W.5.2,W.5.2a,W.5.2d,W.5.2e,WHST.6-8.2, WHST.6-8.2a,WHST.6-8.2c, WHST.6-8.2d,WHST.6-8.2e,WHST.6-8.2f,WHST.6-8.4 AS EDUCATORS, we know: ✎ It’s important for our students to remember our veterans. ✎ We don’t want their sacrifices to be forgotten. ✎ Many kids have family members who served. ✎ It’s important to make it real for the students. ✎ PBL helps students better understand the content and retain it longer than the traditional approach. ✎ Collaborating with others helps build character. ✎ PBL helps students better understand the content and retain it longer than the traditional approach. ✎ Collaborating with others helps build character. ✎THIS IS WHAT YOU'LL GET IN 9/11, VETERAN'S DAY & MEMORIAL DAY Bundle✎ ✎911 Collaborative Group Webquest (Photo Journalists) ✎Dedication to the Vigiano Brothers ✎Complete Lesson Plans ✎Note Sheets for 4 Roles ✎Web Pages with Images and Information ✎5W Chart ✎Graphic Organizer ✎Design a Plaque Honoring a First Responder ✎Design a Plaque Honoring a Victim ✎Grading Rubrics ✎Veterans Day & Memorial Day ✎Dedication to Capt. Yep, he was a scooch, a typical boy who questioned everything and wanted to know why we had to do this or that. Obviously, he was a challenge, however, I love kids like that. By the same token, he was an honor student who studied hard and played even harder. In addition, he was a true friend who truly cared about his classmates. Without a doubt, it's exceedingly important to help your students show kindness, empathy and compassion since you never know what the future will bring. Black Out and Found Poetry Activity for High School Creative Writing
ELA, Writing, Not Grade Specific, Activities
Add some fun to your creative writing unit or provide enrichment options for excelling students with black-out and found poems. These classic poem types are more hands-on than traditional pen-on-paper writing, making them a great way to bust up boring classroom routines! Black-out and found poetry are highly flexible activities . These can be "filler" activities for half-days or can take days to finish. I usually give my students one day for each poem type plus a day to make sure both are finished. Then, I hang all of them up in the hallway for an easy, beautiful display of student work. The great thing about black-out and found poetry activities is that they can be "shrunk down" or "stretched out" to suit your time needs! Keep these on hand for weeks before breaks or during testing!
