Each picture has bold colors and includes easily recognized pictures. Each activity can be used in a literacy center for students to practice letter recognition. What is Included: There is an instructional page with printing instructions. There are letter N posters with various letter N words. There are handwriting task cards that allow students to practice writing the letter N as well as words that begin with the letter N. There are beginning sound clip cards that allow students to practice clipping the images that begin with the letter N. There is a sorting activity where you sort pictures that begins with N from words that do not begin with N. The letter N sorting cards that can also be used to play memory, matching, or concentration games. These cards can also be used during a lesson in a pocket chart as well as for a center display. When to Use: All of the activities make great literacy centers, by placing each set of activities in the center and letting students complete activities alone or with a partner. This ready-to-print set of 5 stations or math centres will supplement a middle school geometry unit about place value: including numbers from the hundred millions to the millionths. I have included lots of real-life examples such as populations of countries around the world and actual Olympic luge results that are measured to the thousandth of a second. Math stations are an excellent way to get students engaged as they move about the room and work cooperatively with their peers. Even when students are in intermediate grades, they benefit from a variety of teaching strategies including the use of stations to make math class more interactive. Station 1: Students can work collaboratively to solve four word problems about place value. (optional: set out white boards for students to use) Station 2: Students explore decimal place value to the millionths with a random number generating dice game. (supplies needed: 2-sided counter or coin AND a 10-sided die to generate numbers) Station 3: Students explore the populations of countries to practice place value skills such as rounding, expanded form, and comparing large numbers. (supplies needed: access to the internet to find the populations) Station 4: Students compare real times (measured to the thousandths) from the men’s luge at the 2018 Winter Olympics. They identify and compare different decimal place values. Station 5: Students explain their mathematical thinking in words and pictures to answer a math journal prompt. Activities include: spelling games, sentence match-ups, mixed-up text and decoding words from the lesson. Writing Prompts Writing prompts are designed to continue the theme or lessons learned in the story. Students are persuaded to write in a variety of ways and each prompt includes several cues to help. As with the spelling/vocab section, writing prompts will vary. This includes research pieces, reading responses, poetry and creative writing prompts. Full Answer Keys Full answer keys and sample responses are provided so no matter how busy you are, you know you're covered! Mixed question answers provide evidence from the text, math questions contain the relevant workings. Answers are designed for use by the teacher, but also suitable as a handout to the student. Just for Fun Each lesson will have a bonus extension exercise. This is something fun to extend the lesson with. You can find these at the end of each lesson, titled Just for Fun. Writing Center Words & Write-the Room Activity – Fairy Tale

A favorite with my students! Help your students write about fairy tale fantasy with these sixteen fairy tale themed words and images for your K-2 classroom Writing Center . Words with images include: carriage, castle, crown, dragon, fairy, frog, horse, knight, mirror, prince, princess, queen, rainbow, slipper, treasure, and magic wand. My students really love working in the Writing Center ! I have plenty of tools and “help” available to them, and these adorable fairy tale themed word pages which they adore. I print two copies, so there is no arguing about having to share, and I laminate them for durability before placing in the Writing Center . Students can easily grab a laminated word page and use it to help write their stories. Page 4 of the PDF is for the Writing Center . Print and laminate one or two and place it in the Writing Center for your students to access as needed. Also included are 16 cards for a Write–the–Room activity if you choose to use them. (I have only used this with my Kindergarten class.) These cards are four-per-page, with the same words and images used for the Writing Center . Pages 5-8 of the PDF are cards for use as a Write-the-Room activity. You may wish to laminate for durability to be able to use year-after-year, and use sticky tack (poster putty) to mount it to walls, bookshelves, file cabinets, etc. I find this is easier than tape. On of my grade-level teachers prints in gray scale, tapes them up, and then lets students take them home after use. Whatever works best for you. Recording pages for the Write-the-Room are included on pages 9 and 10. Page 9 is a full-size recording sheet, and page 10 has 2 half-size recording sheets if you use mini-clip boards like I do.
