This ready-to-go set of 5 stations will supplement a unit about factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers. Math stations or centers are a great way to get students engaged as they move about the room and work collaboratively with their peers. Even when students are in middle school or the intermediate grades, they benefit from a variety of teaching strategies including the use of stations or centres! But they are a lot of work to prepare! Let me do the work for you! Station 1: Students solve 4 riddles/word problems involving factors and multiples. (optional: set out white boards for students to use) Station 2: Students play a game using 10-sided dice. (supplies needed: pairs of dice) Station 3: Students choose two numbers to investigate and learn about common factors and multiples. (optional: set out an anchor chart about factors vs multiples) Station 4: Students review prime and composite numbers and make prime factor trees. (optional: set out laptops or tablets for the online game extension) Station 5: Students apply what they have learned to a real-life problem, and practice writing and drawing about their mathematical thinking. (optional: set out counters for students to use) Ways to Use: You can break your class into 5 groups and have them rotate one at a time through the centres, giving them 10-20 minutes at each one. Or, start students at certain centres and then allow them to move around at their own pace as long as no one centre gets too full. I find these are a great resource as you are finishing your unit and preparing for the unit test. Grades to Use With: These stations work well in grades 4-7 classes or high school special education. Standards: CCSS4.OA.B.4 Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100. Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is a multiple of a given one-digit number. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is prime or composite. CCSS6.NS.B.4 Find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than or equal to 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than or equal to 12. Use the distributive property to express a sum of two whole numbers 1–100 with a common factor as a multiple of a sum of two whole numbers with no common factor. For example, express 36 + 8 as 4 (9 + 2). Writing Center Words & Write-the Room Activity – Firefighter
ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Centers, Activities
Perfect for Fire Safety Week! Help your students write about firefighters and fire safety with these sixteen firefighter themed words and images for your K-2 classroom Writing Center . Words with images include: alarm, axe, badge, boot, dog, extinguisher, firefighters, fire truck, hat, hose, hydrant, jacket, ladder, smoke detector, "stay low and go." and "stop, drop, roll." My students always love working in the Writing Center ! I have plenty tools and “help” available to them, and these themed word pages which they adore. I print two of each, so there is no arguing about having to share, and I laminate them for durability before placing in the Writing Center . Students can easily grab a laminated word page and use it to help write their stories. Page 4 of the PDF is for the Writing Center . Print and laminate one or two and place it in the Writing Center for your students to access as needed. Also included are 16 cards for a Write–the–Room activity if you choose to use them. (I have only used this with my Kindergarten class.) These cards are four-per-page, with the same words and images used for the Writing Center . Pages 5-8 of the PDF are cards for use as a Write-the-Room activity. You may wish to laminate for durability to be able to use year-after-year, and use sticky tack (poster putty) to mount it to walls, bookshelves, file cabinets, etc. I find this is easier than tape. On of my grade-level teachers prints in gray scale, tapes them up, and then lets students take them home after use. Whatever works best for you. Recording pages for the Write-the-Room are included on pages 9 and 10. Page 9 is a full-size recording sheet, and page 10 has 2 half-size recording sheets if you use mini-clip boards like I do. Please note - the first three pages are for "packaging" purposes.

Middle School Math Stations or Centers: Fraction Operations + - x /
Math, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Multiplication and Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Division, Subtraction, Grade 5, 6, 7, Centers, Activities
This ready-to-print set of 5 stations or math centres will supplement a middle school geometry unit about fraction operations: including adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators and multiplying and dividing proper and improper fractions. I have included lots of real-life examples such as recipes, time, and portions of food, along with lots of visual representations and diagrams for the four operations. Math stations are an excellent way to get students engaged as they move about the room and work cooperatively with their peers. Even when students are in intermediate grades, they benefit from a variety of teaching strategies including the use of stations to make math class more interactive. Station 1: Students solve four word problems using fraction operations. I encourage them to also draw diagrams to help where applicable. (optional: set out white boards for students to use) Station 2: Students play a fraction dice game to practice adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. Extension: they can use improper fractions for an extra challenge. (supplies needed: 6- or 10-sided dice and 2-sided counters) Station 3: Students work with fractions to double a real recipe. Station 4: Students show multiplication and division of fractions visually to enhance understanding. (optional: laptops or tablets for online game extension) Station 5: Students extend their learning by working collaboratively to explain their thinking about dividing fractions in a math journal entry (using pictures, numbers, and words). ***Answer Key Included*** Grades to Use With: These stations are designed for middle grades students (grades 5-7) or high school special education classrooms.
