Allow students to sort animals by what they eat. Students can sort by animal by whether they are carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores. What is Included: There are three sorting card headers for carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores. There are eight sorting mats for carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores. There are six picture cards for each of the three sets of sorting activities. Each sorting mat includes a real life example of an animal that belongs in that animal group. All of the picture cards also include real photographs of each animal. What Questions are Asked: To use these, students will lay out either the header cards or the sorting mats. They will then sort the animal images beneath or on top of the correct sorting mat. When to Use: Science Center - The sorting mats can be placed in a science center for students to learn about living things and what they eat. Morning Work - These animal sorts can allow teachers to create quick and easy morning activities for students while they wait on their classmates to arrive to class. Independent Practice - These animal sorts are great for students to independently work on living things. Emergency Sub Plans - The low prep nature and easy to set up activity , makes these worksheets a great activity to leave with subs to assign to students. In this SEL product, you will get SEL Flashcards for Social Emotional Learning. You will also get SEL coloring pages because there are two different pages of emotions/feelings. Both pages have a black and white version and a color version. The black and white version allows your students to color their own faces and images. The emotions listed are; happy, sad, silly, proud, shy confused, scared, excited, angry, tired, loving, sick, disgusted, cry, jealous, disappointed. These flashcards can be used for so many purposes. I have used these flashcards for Go Fish games where the students have to ask for a certain feeling. You will need to make two copies of the colored emotions poster to make this game work. If a student asks for "angry" and the student they asked has it, that student give the card to the one who asked and that student places the match down on the table and names a time they felt angry. I have also used this resource for memory games. You would, again, make two copies of each emotion. Then you would mix up the cards and place them face down (I would highly recommend cardstock) in a random order. Students then would choose two cards and reveal the emotion cards. If they are a match, then the student can share when they have felt that way. If it is not a match, they would place the cards face down again the the next student would take a turn. This is a fun and interactive game but also helps students discuss their feelings in a non-threatening way. This resource can be used as a whole class activity where students color their flashcards and then cut them out. They can randomly pick a card and name a time they felt that way. This can also be used as a center activity for Go Fish or Memory (as I described above). The ways to use these Emotion SEL Flashcards are endless!

ID Words Matching Mats

Students can practice reading comprehension skills with these ID word family mats. Students can practice reading ID words in isolation and in the context of sentences. The words in this set follow a CVC or CCVC spelling pattern. Included in this resource: This resource includes one word mat and one sentence mat, both for reading ID words in insolation and in context. There are also picture cards that correspond with each word and sentence. To complete this activity, students will read each ID word or sentence on the mat and then match the corresponding pictures. Students can work independently or with a partner to complete this activity. How to Use these Id word Family Mats: The students can simply lay the images on top of the word or sentence. They can be placed in a file folder utilizing hook and loop fasteners to attach the images. A magnetic activity can be created by using a baking sheet and magnets to affix the images. Students will love the hands-on nature of this activity. The bold and colorful images will capture students' attention, and the easy to recognize pictures are sure to keep students engaged in learning. These literacy activities allow students to practice target words both in the context of sentences and in isolation. Where can these mats be used? Literacy Center - Students can work independently or with a partner to read these words Morning Tub or Basket - The cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on as students arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can choose a small group of students or a specific group of words for students to work on in a small group setting with the teacher. Hands On Assessment - The teacher can use these to test students on reading the target words in context or in isolation. Skills assessed through this activity: Reading ID words in context of a sentence and in isolation Reading comprehension The low-prep nature of this ID words matching mats activity makes it an easy to assign activity. The mats simply need to be printed out, while the matching cards need to be printed and cut. Lamination is optional for increased durability.
