When to Use these Dot Painting Pages Art Center or a Fine Motor Center - Simply place the pages inside the center with paints of various colors and cotton swabs for students to complete. Craft Activity - These dot painting pages also make a great whole class art activity where each student paints at their own desk their chosen dot art picture. Early Finishers - When students finish their work, they can complete this dot painting activity while waiting on their classmates to finish their assignments. Here is an original, hand-drawn picture of a hen and chicks for children to colour, either as part of a project on the farm, or as an art activity, or to develop fine motor control. Who is this colouring picture of a Hen and Chicks for? Anybody. Older children will extend the activity further than younger ones, Uses for these colouring sheets Use to make spring cards Use as part of a spring project During work on farm animals Use for a basis for collage work Paint or colour. It is best if children colour the hen and chicks picture following close observation - maybe after a visit to a farm - or from reference books. The study of the natural world is the foundation for the later study of science. The colouring of pictures of natural things, be it plants or animals is more than a pastime activity. It is a means of familiarising young children with these everyday subjects. The colouring of this hen and chicks picture can of course be used as a pastime, or even as part of a creative lesson - the picture looks super made into spring greeting cards of many kinds. But it has the potential to teach much more. The UK National Curriculum for Science expects children to be taught to use the local environment to study plants and animals, throughout the year.
