Chemistry - Atoms and Molecules Dominoes

Chemistry - Atoms and Molecules Dominoes
Science, Chemistry, Grade 6, 7, 8, 9, Activities, Games

A dominoes game with questions and statements on forces and weight and mass instead of answers. Prior Knowledge Atoms are the building blocks of elements. All the atoms of one element are the same but are different to the atoms of other elements. Atoms combine to form molecules. If combining atoms are from the same element, a molecule of an element is formed but if they are from different elements, a molecule of a compound is formed. An element contains only one type of atom. A compound contains two or more different types of atom combined together chemically. Elements are listed in the periodic table. Each element has its own symbol. Some symbols are the capitalized first letter of the name of the element . Some symbols have two letters from the name with only the first capitalized. Some symbols are taken from the Latin name of the element. What You Get 80 dominos Animated PowerPoint explaining the rules and how to play. Rules of the Game Each player selects seven dominos from the top of the face-down pile and holds them in their hand like playing cards. The player whose surname begins with a letter closest to the letter A starts and play proceed in a clockwise direction. Dominos can be matched exactly, or a name can be matched with a symbol or descriptions, sketches and circuit diagrams can be matched. If a player thinks a match is wrong, they can challenge. If the challenger is correct, they give a card from their own hand to the challenged player. If the challenged player is correct, they give a card from their hand to the challenger. Pupils are encouraged to check their books for the correct answer and consult their teacher if a consensus is not reached. If a player cannot play a domino, they pick up from the face down pile and can play if possible or add it to their hand. See more Elf Off the Shelf resources on this topic and many others

This game is great for a variety of ages, whether they are just learning their addition facts (adding 1 through 6), are practicing all of their addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division facts, for those who know all of their facts but are practicing their fluency...or for those who just like strategy games! This game is great to incorporate into your math lesson or throughout the day as a fast finisher activity. Students and teachers alike will also love it as an indoor recess game . Students may not even realize they are practicing their facts or how much strategy is really involved! Materials Needed: • Game Board •2 dice •Pen or pencil Object of the Game : •To be the player with the most colored squares How to Play: Decide which player goes first by rolling the dice. The person with the highest roll goes first First player rolls both dice. They may either add, subtract, multiply or divide the dice. Player finds their answer on the game board and draws ONE line by connecting any two dots that surround that number. Next player’s turn Play continues back and forth When a player connects two dots that closes off a square, they color in the square and earn a point. This player gets to roll again! Once game board has all squares colored in, player with the most points wins! Examples •Player rolls a ”6” and a “2” •Connect dots that surround a “4” (6 – 2 = 4) •Connect dots that surround a ”12” (6 x 2 = 12) •Connect dots that surround a “3” (6 ➗ 2 = 3) •Connect dots that surround an “8” (6 + 2 = 8) Challenge •Another option for keeping score is that each player earns the points that they square off. •For example, if a player squares off a “12” square, that player earns 12 points. •This adds in more strategy for squaring off higher numbers as well as additional practice for adding!

In this Smart Cookie game (2022 version), students try and race each other to be the first one to guess the answer based on one at a time clues after one at a time clicks via Presentation mode on Google Slides. This is based on the wildly popular game Smart A** but more applicable and relevant to elementary-high schoolers. I have included many references to popular t.v. shows and famous people the students born after 2001 would know. This is a trivial pursuit-like game but more fun and students feel more successful. It is just for fun and perfect for Zoom, an ice breaker or indoor recess but they might even learn something! There are 3 categories; Who Am I?, Where Am I?, and What Am I? There are 42 slides for each category. Use in Presentation mode for your class. There are answer sheets at the end for each card so the Game Leader can reference quickly and keep track of the cards used. This is in PowerPoint so the completed cards will turn black after being used for easy game play. In this new 2022 version there are all new cards for each category!

6th Grade Math: Algebra Inequality Matching Game

6th Grade Math: Algebra Inequality Matching Game
Algebra, Math, Number Lines, Grade 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Activities, Games

Teaching your students about how to write and evaluate inequalities in algebra can sometimes end up being a bit dry. Try adding this game to your algebra unit to bring a little movement and collaboration to your classroom. It's a super simple game : just print the cards and cut them out. There are 32 cards in 16 pairs. Deal one card to each student in your class. They should spend half a minute looking at their card and thinking of other ways it could be represented. For example, if they have a number line: what inequality does it show? If they have an inequality, could it be simplified? Then, all the students get up and move around the room (SILENTLY!). They can use gestures while looking at each others' cards and trying to find their match. Pairs move to the side of the room until everyone is matched up. It's that simple! Of course, you could also use these cards for a standard memory game where you flip two cards at a time and try to find matches. I have also included a second set of cards that have pairs of fractions and decimals (for example 1/20 and 0.05). Grades to Use With: These cards are designed to target the standard 6EE.B.8 in grade six classrooms, but they could also be an excellent quick review in grades 7 and 8! What's Included: 9 Page PDF: Title/Instruction Page 4 Pages of Inequality Cards 4 Pages of Fractions and Decimal Cards If you enjoy this product, check out other 6th Grade Algebra Activities in my store: Pre-Algebra Problem: The Wave Pool with Expressions, Tables, and Graphs Algebra: Modelling Equations: Visual Balance Scale Worksheet Exponent Board Game Independent and Dependent Variables in 6th Grade Math: Hockey Math Middle School Math Stations: Early Algebra

Need to help your students in grades 5-8 learn how to plot ordered-pairs including negative numbers? Want to make sure they are engaged and focused while doing it? This activity will get them involved and allow them to take ownership over their learning as they create cute images on a four-quadrant Cartesian grid! At the same time, students will practice their math skills with integers and start to notice symmetry in ordered pairs. What happens when an ordered pair is symmetrical with another over the y axis? What about over the x axis? What do they noticed about the two digits in the ordered pair? Lots of great math talks can stem from this activity! Check out the three sections of this lesson: students graph a list of ordered pairs which will create an image of a cat: They need to be precise and careful during this process if they want to get the final product! students use a blank 4-quadrant grid to create their own design and record their ordered pairs in a list: They can be as creative as they like during this part of the lesson: creating an image from their favourite TV show or book! students use a friend's list of ordered pairs to re-create their design on a third 4-quadrant grid: They will be excited to see if they can accurately graph their friend's design! Grades to Use With: This project is perfect for students in grades 5-8 who are learning about graphing, plotting, and integers. It could also be used in high school special education classrooms. What's Included: 4 Page PDF: Title Page, Student Plotting Task, Student Design Task, Blank Grid to Plot Friend's Design If you enjoy this hands-on math activity, check out others in my store: Grace Under Pressure I love to show students how the math skills they learn in class can be used in real-life in fun and engaging ways!
