AG Word Family Sorting Activities

This AG Word Family Sorting Activity is a great resource for your students to practice recognizing AG words and pictures in isolation. This sorting activity includes three different sorts for students to categorize AG family words in an engaging literacy center. Sorts Included in this Literacy Resource Sort words that are included in the AG family from words that are not included in the AG family. Sort pictures that represents words in the AG family from pictures that represent words not in the AG family. Sort between real and nonsense AG words. The teacher can easily differentiate these sorting activities for students who need more or less support to be successful in completing these sorts. How to Use: The teacher can create a file folder sorting activity The teacher can add magnets to the picture pieces and create a cookie tray sorting activity The teacher can place the cards and mats in a box for a simple sorting activity To assemble file folder activities, position the two sorting mats on each side of a file folder. Use the word and image cards for sorting onto the mats. Adding hook and loop fasteners to both the cards and mats ensures the cards remain positioned once sorted. For the cookie tray sorting, attach magnets to each card's back. Lay the mats next to each other on the tray, and the magnets will secure the cards to the mats. These methods provide an interactive literacy station that will captivate your kindergartners and first graders as they learn and practice AG family words. The seek and find page practices letter recognition by having students identify capital and lowercase forms of the letter. The find and color page practices letter recognition of the target letter from other letters of the alphabet. Students can use dot markers to mark the letters, they can color in the letter or use stickers to cover the letters. Within this pack, students will have practice with word problems, decomposing, finding area and perimeter, and tasks to supplement the instruction of area and perimeter. This packet begins with a set of six word problems on a 1-page printable. The first problem is done for students, so they can see an example. Students will use the attached graph paper to help the solve the word problems. Students will find the area and perimeter for each problem. Answer key included. The problems are as follows: 1) Joey wanted a really big canvas for his art project. He found one that was 6 feet wide and 4 feet long! What was the area of Joey’s canvas? What was the perimeter? 2) Abby’s library card fit perfectly in her pocket! Both were 3 inches wide and 3 inches tall. What were the areas of the card and pocket? What were the perimeters? 3) Sylvia measured her classroom. The width of her classroom was 10 meters. The length was 12. What was the perimeter of her classroom? What was the area? 4) The container Juan keeps his pet tarantula in measures 9 inches by 8 inches. What is the area of the container? What is the perimeter? 5) The small field at the high school measured 25 yards long and 10 yards wide. What was the area of the field? What was the perimeter? The next thing in the packet is a Decomposing Areas worksheet. Students will: Look at the shapes shown on the graph paper. Draw lines to decompose them into squares or rectangles and write the areas of each new shape on the attached log before adding them up and writing the whole area of the shape. The first one is done for them. The next worksheet is Decomposing Areas: Reversed. In this activity, students will: Be given sets of area measurements. Their job is to make squares or rectangles that match these measurements in order to create a larger rectilinear shape. After creating the shapes, they will check to make sure the areas match. There is an Area Worksheet and an Area and Perimeter worksheet in which they will find the correct measurements on the shapes. Answer keys are included for both. Finally, there are 4 worksheets for Area and Perimeter Mini Tasks.
