Speed Quizzing – Work, Energy, and Power Unit
Science, Physics, Grade 8, 9, 10, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools

This activity will get your students out of their seats, moving around, and discussing the material. It is fully editable and requires very little preparation. Simply print, cut out the flash cards, and pass them out to students. Note. This resource can also be used as an excellent question bank as it contains 32 high-quality questions that you can use in any way you see fit. This activity contains 32 questions designed to test your students’ knowledge of the unit they are studying. The questions come directly from the lessons and cover the following topics: • Energy and its Forms • Work and Energy • Kinetic and Gravitational Potential Energy • The Law of Conservation of Energy and Efficiency • Thermal Energy, Temperature and Heat • Power Each of the Speed Quizzes listed below can be found in my Speed Quizzes Growing bundle at a discount of at least 65%. Here’s how you implement them: 1. Provide each student with a flash card 2. Pair up students using the stand up/hands up/pair up method 3. Partner A reads the question to Partner B, who answers. Partner A praises if correct or coaches if incorrect. 4. Partners switch roles 5. Students thank each other and switch cards 6. Partners raise their hands to find a new partner 7. Repeat for a specified amount of time Alternate way to ensure each student gets a new partner each time: Divide students into groups A and B. Have every student pair up with someone from the other group (if there is an odd number of students you participate too!) 1) Do Speed Quizzing 2) Then have group A move to the right and group B stay still. 3) Do Speed Quizzing 4) Then have group B move to the left and group A stay still. Every student in group A will meet every student in group B, but students will not meet students in their own group (a clever way to keep apart students who should not be partnered for whatever reason). This activity can be used to: • Prompt meaningful student conversation • Review prior knowledge • Review new terms/problems after a unit • Gather student ideas • Remediate weak skills • Practice new skills ***************************** For free resources, useful teaching tips, and tools, please visit my blog - TeachScienceWithFergy.com If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email - devon@teachwithfergy.com

CRQ: "Decolonization and Nationalism+ 3 slide shows, Regents Global 10
Social Studies, History, History: World, Grade 10, Teacher Tools, Assessments

CRQ: "On Decolonization and Nationalism" + 3 slide shows, Regents Global 10 This product is a constructed-response question (“CRQ”) in the format of the new New York State Regents examination in Global History and Geography. The CRQ calls upon the student to examine historical sources (I use exclusively primary sources) by providing historical or geographic context, identifying the point of view, intended audience, or purpose of a document and then using the two documents in either compare-contrast, cause-effect analysis, or turning point identification. I advocate a strategy of assigning one CRQ in each unit of study in grades nine and ten without access to notes. I used this as one of the tests at the end of a unit of study. I would tell students about what kinds of documents would appear and what historical context they should be able to recall in advance. It is a challenging task for them. The first challenge for novices is to understand what it means to provide context. Faced with the question “What is the historical context of this document?”, beginners will retell what the document says. The reason for this mistake is that, since they were little kids, teachers have asked them to relate what a text means to prove they understood it. How to play directions Preparation Use back-to-back printing to copy a set for each group of 4 pupils. Sheets can be laminated to enable year-on-year use. Trim sheets into cards. Prior Knowledge Required: An Overview of Magnets and Magnetic Fields Composition of Magnets: Magnets are constructed using magnetic materials. Common materials include Iron, Cobalt, Nickel, and their corresponding alloys. Pole Interactions: Magnets have two types of poles - North and South. When two like poles (e.g., North and North) come close to each other, they repel. Conversely, when opposite poles (e.g., North and South) are brought together, they attract each other. Magnetic Fields: Surrounding every magnet is an invisible force field known as the magnetic field. This field can be visualized through field lines. Field Line Density: The density of these field lines determines the strength of the magnetic field. A region with closely spaced field lines indicates a stronger magnetic field than a region where they're spread out. Visualization of Field Lines: It's essential to understand and recognize the pattern of field lines around two bar magnets, especially when they have the same or opposite poles facing each other. Field Strength at Poles: The magnetic field is strongest at the poles of a magnet due to a higher concentration of field lines. Distance and Field Strength: The strength of the magnetic field diminishes as one moves farther from the magnet. Direction of Field Lines: Field lines emanate outward from the magnet's south pole and point inward toward the north pole. Magnetization Process: When a non-magnetized magnetic material becomes a magnet, the tiny regions within it called domains, which were initially oriented in random directions, align themselves to point uniformly in the same direction. Earth's Magnetic Properties: The Earth behaves like a large magnet. Interestingly, there appears to be a south-type magnetic pole near the Earth's geographic North Pole and a north-type magnetic pole near the Earth's geographic South Pole. Application in Devices: It would be beneficial to have a basic understanding of how magnets and magnetic fields operate within certain devices. Familiarize yourself with the structure and functioning of electric bells, relays, and circuit breakers, as they use these principles. With this foundational knowledge, you will be better prepared to delve deeper into the study of magnets and their wide-ranging applications. Kelso's Choices – SEL Coloring Pages & Activities
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Worksheets & Printables, Coloring Pages, Worksheets, Mazes

In this SEL coloring page resource, you will receive 3 different Kelso's Choices extension activities. Plus one additional maze in the color green. There is a black and white frog maze, a color by Kelso's Choice frog to color in based on some of the Kelso's choices, and a draw a line from the picture of Kelso the frog doing the Kelso Choice on the right, written out. Kelso's Choices is a great conflict resolution framework that explains 9 different ways to solve small problems; walk away, talk it out, apologize, ignore, go to another game, wait and cool off, tell them to stop, share and take turns, and make a deal. These choices can teach students how to solve small problems by themselves, thus reducing the need for tattling. You can use these activities after teaching an SEL class on Kelso's choices, big and small problems, and which adult to tell if they are having a big problem. I teach students that if a situation is scary or unsafe, or someone is about to get hurt, they need to tell an adult and it becomes a big problem I also tell students that if they are having a small problem that simply will not go away using a Kelso's choice, they do need to go to an adult for guidance, such as a teacher, parent, babysitter, etc. Otherwise, if someone if cutting them in line, teasing them, taking a marker, not letting them play, not playing by the rules, or doing something to them that is frustrating or annoying, they can empower themselves to use a Kelso's Choice. I have several other Kelso's Choice SEL lessons that can be taught prior to these activities located in my SEL store at Teach Simple.
