I Can’t Always Play on my Tablet Social Story
Special Resources, Special Education Needs (SEN), Social Skills, Life Skills, Not Grade Specific,
A social story about the importance of spending time doing a variety of activities and not just spending all your time on a tablet so that you can have a more healthy lifestyle. There is no set time that children should spend using a tablet. However, it is important to limit tablet use to a certain amount of time each day to ensure that children can focus on other activities , such as reading, writing, and interacting with others. Research has shown that children who spend too much time using a tablet may have difficulty developing their motor skills, as well as their ability to focus and pay attention. Additionally, tablets can be a source of unhealthy screen time, which can lead to sleep deprivation, obesity, and other health problems. The point of a social story is to use a patient and reassuring tone to teach children about social situations in a way that can be easily understood. Social stories can be useful for any child who is struggling to understand a situation or concept or needs help to understand a social skill or social cue, expectations, perspectives, common responses or is troubled about an upcoming event but social stories are particularly useful for children on the autistic spectrum for whom social cues can be challenging and who often suffer anxiety if they do not know what to expect from a situation. These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them.
