ELA, Reading, Reading Comprehension, Common Core, Children’s Literature, Literature, Spelling, Language Development, Vocabulary, Writing, Grade 2, 3, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Assessments, Teacher Tools, Tests, Quizzes and Tests, Writing Prompts

Reading Comprehension Passages Fiction Set 5 Snapshot Title: Title not stated Genre: Fiction (short story collection) Subject: Reading (ELA) Primary Topic: Friendship, everyday problems, and solutions Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): P What This Teaches Best Friendship across different situations: Friends stay connected even when apart (“Friends in Different Places”) and practice being happy for each other (“Best at Being a Friend”). Problem/solution thinking in realistic stories: Characters face small problems (boredom, chores, weather ruining plans, a cat stuck in a tree) and adjust to solve them. Character feelings and motivations: Students can track emotions like boredom, nervousness, frustration, and fear, and connect them to choices and outcomes. Cause and effect: Clear “because” links appear throughout (e.g., why no campfire is allowed; why the cat won’t come down; why Tara feels second-best). Strong built-in practice routine: Each story includes support pages (mixed questions, vocabulary/spelling, writing/response) tied to story details, with a few wording/answer-key inconsistencies noted below. Learning Goals Students will recount key events from a story in order using text details. Students will describe a character’s feelings and motivations and explain how they influence actions. Students will identify a problem and solution and explain how the solution changes the ending. Students will explain cause-and-effect relationships using evidence from the story. Students will use context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words in the stories. Students will respond to a prompt by connecting the story’s events to their own experiences (where the support pages ask for it). Passages Include 1.Friends in Different Places: Molly is sad as her best friend is out of town. 2.Perfect Birthday: Everyone knows what Matt wants for his birthday! 3.Fun With Leaves: Can doing chores also be fun? Find out in this story. 4.Backyard Camp: Kelly and Brandy camp out in the backyard. But how does it go? 5.Best at Being a Friend: Second place again, but there is one thing Tara is best at. 6.Grant the Superhero: Join Grant and his dreams of being a superhero. Additional File: Grant the Superhero: Comic Template PRESENTABLE PDF VERSION Run it like a slide show straight from a PDF, with no PowerPoint or extra software needed, just open, project, and teach. SEL Lesson-Parts Of My Brain! (6 Lessons)

SEL Lesson-Parts Of My Brain! (6 Lessons)
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Education Needs (SEN), Social Skills, Grade 3, 4, 5, Parts of and Anatomy of, Worksheets & Printables

Let's learn about our brain! Students will learn about different parts of their brain in this product. They will learn about the Wise Owl (prefrontal cortex), Hippo The Librarian (hippocampus), Scared Dog (Amygdala), and the Excited Puppy (Amygdala). Lesson One-Students will be given a brief overview of the 3 parts of the brain. Primarily in lesson one, students will learn about the Wise Owl-the prefrontal cortex. They will unpack the difference between automatic and controlled thinking-slow and fast thinking. In partners, they will attempt the Stroop Test. This is a hands-on activity that challenges them to say the color, not read the word. There is a link to a video as well about fast and slow thinking. In lesson one, students can color the black and white handout on the slide and glue it to a folder to collect future handouts. Lesson Two and Three-In lessons 2 and 3, students will dive into aspects of their amygdala. They will learn about Scared Dog and Excited Puppy. Scared dog represents the fight, flight, and freeze alarm system in our amygdala. The Excited puppy is the pleasure and reward center in the amygdala. There is a link to a video and an activity involving paint chip colors-showing the difference in intensity levels of feelings and emotions. Students will also learn the concepts of avoiding and seeking. This helps students identify what they avoid or seek in a variety or areas such as friendship, school, etc. Lesson Four-This lesson will focus on reacting and responding behaviors. Reacting behaviors are automatic-without stopping and thinking first. For example, touching a hot stove-one would pull away quickly. Responding is more like stopping and thinking and making a smart choice. Lesson Five-Students in lesson 5 will learn about the hippocampus-explored through Hippo The Librarian. This lesson is all about how our memories help us remember important lessons in the past. Lesson Six-Putting it all together in a final lesson! In lesson 6, students will be putting what they learned into play. They will be role-playing different scenarios and acting out parts of the brain. There are 2 optional activities as well; a fortune teller and a personalized mindfulness coloring sheet for each student. Directions on the slide notes on how to do this. Each lesson has slide notes to help guide the conversation. When you download the product, click on the image for Google Slides access. When prompted to make a copy, click "yes". Controlling My Anger Worksheet

Controlling My Anger Worksheet
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Not Grade Specific, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Anger sparks are inevitable for children, but reacting constructively takes mindfulness and skill-building. This reflective worksheet helps students evaluate previous poor responses to anger and cement more positive alternatives going forward through pictures and writing. The page features illustrations of common yet unhealthy anger reactions like hitting, screaming, throwing toys, hurting others, running away and having a tantrum. These visual cues remind children of counterproductive habits they may relate to personally. Beside each problematic scenario, space is provided for students to jot healthier choices they pledge to enact next time they feel similarly frustrated. Options like take deep breaths, squeeze a stress ball, count to 10, or politely ask for help are prompted as examples. Articulating go-to regulation tactics makes them concrete tools to access independently. Finally, children illustrate their own vision of ideal anger management, for example walking away calmly or taking space to breathe. These sketches become motivational reminders that discipline over reactions is within their control if using wise coping methods. Guiding students to evaluate past anger responses and cement constructive alternatives is pivotal learning for childhood development and classroom harmony. This straight-forward worksheet establishes that interpersonal growth through relatable visualization and reflective writing. Wonderful eye catching visuals are courtesy of Kari Bolt Clipart
