Here is a fun way to help reinforce the parts of speech: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, articles, and prepositional phrases. They can be a bit dry and boring to learn about, so playing a fun and silly game might be just the activity your students need! It is a great activity for literacy centres or partner work. Each student needs a recording sheet, a pencil, and a die. They roll and fill in the corresponding part of speech. For example, if they roll a 1, they need to write an article. If they roll a 4, they write a verb. They can be as silly and creative as they want to! Once one row is filled, they should have a silly sentence! 1) Article 2) Adjective 3) Noun 4) Verb 5) Adverb 6) Prepositional Phrase Ex: The gigantic kangaroo ate sadly on the slide. There are beginning sound clip cards that allow students to practice clipping the images that begin with the letter I. There is a sorting activity where you sort pictures that begins with I from words that do not begin with I. The letter I sorting cards that can also be used to play memory, matching, or concentration games. These cards can also be used during a lesson in a pocket chart as well as for a center display. When to Use: All of the activities make great literacy centers, by placing each set of activities in the center and letting students complete activities alone or with a partner. These activities make great morning tub activities. Just place these activities in morning bins for students to complete as their classmates arrive to class. Skills Assessed: These activities assess letter recognition skills, beginning sounds, handwriting, and sorting skills. Each activity in this set is low prep. Each activity just needs to be printed out, cut apart, and laminated if desired. This ST fun, Find and Color worksheet for initial blends is STupendous for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the ST blend. This is a sample of our pack of 20 activities covering common initial blends which can be found here in one PDF file: less clutter on your computer! What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.
