Breaking the Big Words | Volume 4, Set 2
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
A big focus for lower elementary students is learning how to read. This is a multi-faceted skill that comes with many layers for the teacher and the students to unfold. Part of the foundation includes syllable division. When students can identify syllable patterns and break words apart, they become masterful decoders. A child who can successfully decode words is ready to read! Here is a resource that gives complete focus to mastering this skill. Breaking the Big Words Activity Book is a syllable division activity series for students. This is Volume 4, Set 2. The focus is: Syllable Patterns: V/V Syllable Types: Open and Magic e Number of Syllables: 2-3 This set is meant to make students feel successful because: · Syllable patterns are introduced in a specific order to ensure students master a single syllable type with blends and digraphs before moving on to the next type. · As students reach mastery with recognizing and decoding each syllable type, the next will be introduced. Scaffolding: · Multiple visual supports utilized to ensure independence and confidence with the strategy. · As students are able, supports are removed to foster independence. Parts of each activity: · New Words: introduced during this activity. · Review: Familiar syllable types and patterns for practice and maintenance. · Break Before You Read (word list): The step following syllabication is the informal “break.” Students insert a slash to separate syllables This occurs prior to reading. · Break While You Read: To further generalize the “break” strategy to reading. Students read two sentences and “break” words as they come to them. Add additional levels of generalization as students progress: · Ask students to “Break While You Read” with a decodable text, a story excerpt, content vocabulary, or a sentence on a worksheet. · Fade the last support (the steps to divide syllables) by asking students to copy and divide a word on notebook paper or white boards. Personal Safety Lesson-Safe and Unsafe Secrets
Special Resources, Life Skills, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Education Needs (SEN), Social Skills, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Teacher Tools, Lesson Plans
This resource is a personal safety lesson specifically about safe and unsafe secrets. This is such an important skill to learn as asking children to keep unsafe secrets is part of the grooming process from child molesters. This is a key lesson in preventing childhood abuse. In this lesson, you will have a 9-slide Google slide presentation. The flow of the lesson is self-explanatory and there are slide notes to guide you on what to have ready for the students, what to print off, and what handouts should also go home with students. The first part of the lesson is asking students what are words and actions that cause them to feel happy or sad. The next part is a lesson about red light and green light (unsafe and safe) secrets. There are 6 examples the teacher or counselor will read and students will hold up either the red or green light (these handouts are provided). The next step is reviewing safety steps with the students in case someone is asking them to keep an unsafe secret. Students are encouraged to role-play these steps. Lastly, students will draw 2 safe adults besides their parents. The safety steps and safe adult' drawings should go home with students to share with their parents or guardians. After the 9-slide presentation, there are 3 handouts to copy and print out for students in preparation for the lesson. Read the slide show thoroughly before teaching this lesson so you will understand the flow of the lesson and the different activities. Because this is a Google Slide resource, you will be downloading a PDF and clicking on the image on the PDF to access the slide presentation. Once you are prompted to "make a copy", click "yes" and make a copy. You will then have access to the product. Enjoy!

Lesson Plan on Twelfth Night
Literature, ELA, Reading, Drama, Creative Arts, Elementary, Middle School, High School, Activities, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools, Worksheets & Printables
Twelfth Night incorporates many classic elements of comedic theater. At the core of its structure lies a network of complex romantic liaisons (Orsino loves Olivia, Olivia is smitten with Cesario and later Sebastian, Viola has feelings for Orsino, while Sir Andrew and Malvolio are attracted to Olivia); disguise (the plot centers around Viola disguising herself as a male servant to survive after being shipwrecked in Illyria); mistaken identities (Viola and Sebastian are twins so alike that nobody can tell them apart); trickery and mischief; a rich offering of song and dance; the satire of hypocrisy, excess, and arrogance; a fleeting period of chaos and confusion; concluding with a resolution where all misunderstandings are resolved and three marriages take place. This ebook features an extensive lesson plan focused on 'Twelfth Night' and includes multiple activities intended to last at least 90 minutes. A unique printable worksheet for learners is included, along with the answer guide.
