They work well especially for preschool, Montessori, and kindergarten classrooms, but they’re also helpful at home. All the picture cards inside are easy to understand and designed for children who are still developing speech, have limited language, or need extra support communicating. You can use them on bulletin boards, communication boards, and during small-group activities to encourage everyday real-life communication. I created this resource with very young children in my mind. What’s inside? This resource includes 40+ colorful picture cards with clear images and simple words. Each letter is filled with something that begins with each letter, helping to reenforce beginning sounds of each letter. What is Included: There is one capital letter poster for each letter of the alphabet. There is one lowercase letter for each letter of the alphabet. Each letter is represented with two different sizes. There is one set of letters that fit on a full sheet of paper, and a smaller set that are three to five letters to a page. How to Use: You can create an alphabet wall display for students to look at the letters of the alphabet. The letters can be cut into pieces to create a puzzle center where students can build the letter of the alphabet. The letters do require some prep to create. The colour ' ea ' anchor chart can be used as a word wall or as an aid to teaching the ' ea ' digraph. The black and white anchor chart can be coloured by the pupil. The act of colouring helps the family of ' ea ' words to be fixed together as a group of words in the child's memory. In addition, children can be encouraged to think of a story, using as many words on the ' ea ' anchor chart as possible. How to use the anchor charts One of the great difficulties of learning digraphs, encountered by the middle and lower thirds of the class, is remembering which digraph to use for each word. Practice reading CH words with these digraph word wall cards. These cards make a great wall display for a phonics focused word wall as well as a reference resource within a writing center . What is in this resource? This resource includes word wall cards for the digraph CH. This set contains both CVCC, CCVC, and CCVCC words in two different formats. On each card you will find an illustration which is representing a digraph CH word that is written in large font for students to recognize and read easily. Students will be able to match the illustration with the CH word. There are two sets included in this resource, one with words on the cards in black letters and the other have the rime highlighted in red. This allows students to easily blend onset and rime to read each word. How to use this resource: This resource can be used as word wall cards. This resource can be used as puzzles by cutting the picture from the word. This resource can be used in a writing center as reference cards This resource can be used as writing cards for a sand or salt tray The cards can be used as flash cards These cards can be easily differentiated, allowing students a variety of different activities to practice reading words with digraphs. Students can use these cards as a reference when writing stories, sentences, labeling pictures, or copying in a writing center . Here is a super pack of 2 'ai' digraph sound mats for school or home use. One colour version for the teacher and one black and white version for the pupil to colour and use. What is included in the pack? One PDf with 2 pages: one colour mat and one black and white How to use the 'ai' digraph sound mat The 'ai' digraph sound mats can be used in various ways. Here are some ways in which I use them: After having taught my pupils the 'ai' digraph, we often need to revise which words are in the 'ai' family, as opposed to other families with the same sound. Therefore we will have a mat for each sound and we will revise the sound by reading the words in each family, from the sound mat. We learn the little sentence at the bottom as it helps the children to link words in the same family together easily in their minds. I pin the colour version on the wall for easy reference as the child goes around the home/school The child can colour the black-and-white version. As the child colours, the words in the family are grouped in the child's mind. The child can then have the ai digraph word mat on his/her desk as s/he undertakes independent writing activities. Activities: In addition to the above suggestions for use, Here are some suggestions for activities that can be undertaken using the 'ai' digraph sound mat: Can the children write a silly sentence including as many words on the mat as possible? Give the children a minute to look at the mat. Then ask them to turn it over and see how many words they can remember. This activity is particularly helpful in aiding the child to sort words into their various sound families.
