Each letter has a picture of an object that begins with that sound. 2 font styles are included. When children are first starting to learn letter shapes and sounds, it is helpful to have a handy reference chart that the children can use to aid recall or letter shapes and a picture cue to the sound each letter stands for. There are many ways to use these charts: Wall reference Desk reference - give one to each child; special needs children especially find them helpful. Wall reference: a wall chart Play quick games: Put a counter on the letter that says /t/, for example, and play until all letters are covered. Cut up the squares and ask the children to lay the letters in alphabetical order. Activities: Write me the sound that ...teddy... begins with: can the child write the letter straight away without looking? Does the child look for the picture of the teddy? Use to assess. Can you tell me which object begins with the sound ...../h/, for example. The child looks for 'h' and says 'house'. Let the children use their charts as they complete worksheets/write/spell. Action Sentence Diagramming Chart FREEBIE — Middle School ELA

This action sentence diagramming tutorial is the only tool you'll ever need to teach students how to identify parts of speech in sentences with action verbs. Even though it is only two-pages in length, this guide was the primary tool of weeks of grammar study in my 7th grade English courses. It turns sentence diagramming into a fun game of sentence exploration, teamwork, and participation. To use this chart couldn't possibly be simpler. Simply hand it out - or better yet, laminate and provide dry-erase markers - and provide students with a sentence that employs an action verb. Students can then go through the 4 simple steps and break down the provided sentence to unveil all of the important parts of speech found in the sentence. The activity starts by identifying the action verb in the provided sentence. From there, students simply have to answer simple and easy questions about the verb. Each question's obvious answer reveals another part of speech included in the sentence. Students that become familiar with this guide will never forget how to diagram a sentence with action verbs! By taking students through the 4 steps simply and clearly spelled out in this chart , they will learn how to quickly identify the following parts of speech: - Action verbs (the key necessity for this worksheet to, well, work!) - Subjects (whether pronoun or proper noun, they'll be able to find it!) - Direct Objects (no problem for this worksheet, even if there isn't a direct object!) - Indirect Objects (ditto!) Although this resource can be fitted for any secondary Language Arts classroom, it has been carefully designed to work best in grades 6, 7, and 8. The activity is subtly but specifically tied to Common Core ELA Standards for Language (1). This resource is provided as a print-ready, bookmarked, and adjustable PDF file. Material vs Non-Material Culture with Acadian Culture Reading Passage and T-Charts

This middle school social studies lesson has three parts to help teach your students the difference between material and non-material culture. 1) An introduction to the concept of material vs. non-material culture 2) A one-page reading about Acadian culture. Students will sort the parts of this culture in a T-chart. 3) A second T-chart for students to sort the material and non-material aspects of their own culture. How to Use: Teach your students the difference between material and non-material culture. Culture is the set of values, ideas, traditions, and objects that a group passes from one generation to the next. It can be divided into two categories: Material: physical objects, books, art, structures, clothing, technology Non-Material: ideas/values/things that can’t be seen, language, religion, customs, rules, education, government Brainstorm aspects of culture on the board and sort them into the two categories. Students read the one-page passage about Acadian culture and sort the parts that are material and non-material onto their T-chart. They could do this independently or in small groups. Share the results as a class. Notice if any parts of culture are hard to categorize in this way. Then students think about their own culture and sort aspects of it into material and non-material culture. This could become the basis for a paragraph or short essay assignment. Grades to Use With: This assignment is designed for students in the middle grades (5-8) or high school special education classrooms. Alphabet Chart and Alphabet Flashcards This is a bumper pack of picture/letter cards to help you to teach initial sounds, or beginning sounds. It can be used by many different groups of people: parents, home educators, private tutors, ESL teachers, EFL teachers, SEN/D teachers, and generally in the Pre-K, or K classroom. The Initial sounds Teaching Pack contains over 170 picture cards, spread over 20 pages. It is in full colour. All vowels are marked in yellow to help children to recognise these important letters. In the pack you will find: An alphabet chart which can be used for display, or even laminated to make a placemat. Children love to use this to check their progress and see the letters they have learned and can recognise. Then we have 3 plus pages of pictures with the sound underneath, followed by the same cards without pictures so that pictures can be matched to the letters. Then we have picture cards for each letter of the alphabet; we provide 2 sets of these to minimise the chance of children memorising that 'a' is for apple without really hearing the sound at the beginning of the word. These are followed by 26 lowercase letters and 26 uppercase letters. These can be matched to each other, or to the pictures. Simple games can be made - can the child find the lowercase letter, the uppercase letter and both pictures that begin with that sound? Finally, we have two strips of vowels - one with picture cues and one without for children to practice the al important vowel sounds before moving onto blending and to use as a handy reference while learning to blend. Laminate the cards for durability. This pack will make your life so much easier! Teacher instructions and suggestions for activities are provided. The ability to hear the initial/beginning sound of a word is a vital skill that is overlooked by many modern phonic programmes in the rush to get children to blend, but such a rush often leaves many children unable to blend as they cannot hear the initial sound of a word to start with. In turn, this leads to children who memorise CVC words, and from there on, learn to guess. Many of these children then do not make progress in reading, So this pack is very important to help make sure that every child not only knows the sound each letter makes but can hear that sound at the beginning of words.
