Phonic Reading Scheme for Older Students: AR Words Books 17 and 18
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools, Worksheets & Printables, Lesson Plans

A pack of 2 AR Phonic reading books with matching PowerPoints and workbooks to support learning. These books are part of an incremental phonics reading scheme with a difference. Introducing just 10 words in each phonics family, the words are repeated from book to book, giving even those with very poor word recall the chance to learn to read fluently without having to decode every word. Ideal for dyslexics, or those suspected of being dyslexic and all children with a special need. You can view the first CK pack with a set of 30+ supporting activities and games FREE here. The books cover these sounds and must be taught in this order: CK; OO; SH; CH; ND/NT; NK; TH; NG; AR; Rationale: It has long been proven that teaching children to decode is a powerful tool for teaching reading, as opposed to the Look and Say method. However, this has led to a proliferation of reading books that throw as many words with a shared phonics sound into a book as possible, not realising that some children with very poor word recall find it hard to recognise words when they see them again without much repetition. To combat this problem, while we recognise that, technically, once a child has been taught a new sound s/he can sound out many words with that new sound, when it comes to reading fluently a child needs a core set of words in each family that they can recognise, which can act as a launch pad as they gain confidence. These books have been designed accordingly. For each sound family, just 10 words are studied with the help of the workbooks and are then repeated throughout the books, each book building on the vocabulary that has already been learned, repeating it and including it in new phrases as new sounds are learned. As the programme progresses, new sounds from the learned families are incorporated to widen vocabulary, while taking care to maintain fluency. The books are designed to limit guessing (though most children will try and guess, which must be avoided at all costs). Pluses of this phonics reading programme Easy to print Cheap to buy compared with expensive reading schemes They are just as effective as the best reading programmes out there, and more importantly, they have been tried and tested on real children with severe difficulties and proven to work if the child is taught as outlined. Aligned with the aims and objectives of LETRS and the Science of Reading. They work! My pupils tell me if they don't work, so I re-edit them and try them before I put them out for the general public. Introduces most high-frequency words in the phonics family to which they belong, and gradually introduces genuine, non-decodable sight words into the text without causing overload or throwing the child off course. What is included? Each book is 12 pages long Each book comes with a matching PowerPoint, making it suitable for online teaching, for private tutors, parents, classroom assistants, etc... The AR books come with 40 matching worksheets

Reading can be made easier with these phonic helps that repeatedly encourage students to practice these Ending Digraph sounds. Learning how to read can be the most challenging activity for many students and for a teacher. A digraph in the English language are two letters put together that represents a single sound or phoneme. Understanding that the combination of letters can make one sound can be difficult to master and requires repetitive practice of reading and writing these words with these sounds. This unit focuses only on the Ending Digraph sounds. There are other phonics units that I sell that focuses on the Beginning Digraph sounds, and one that focuses on all three digraph sounds in the Beginning, Middle and End. Activities include reading comprehension and identifying the digraphs in their reading, writing their answers to questions regarding the paragraph, identifying additional ending digraph words in sentences using a word bank, matching words with pictures, spinning a paperclip activity where students will write the word with the digraph sound, and lastly a fun wordsearch with the ending digraph words. These activities are for each digraph so there is plenty of opportunities for students to practice their comprehension reading skills and phonic sounds. Students will practice the following Ending Digraph sounds: ck, ng, sh, th, and nk. Teachers can use this resource in whole group, individually with students, students can practice with each other in centers, or they can be assigned as homework. Worksheets are also differentiated for each Ending Digraph sound for all young learners which makes it perfect for all 1st - 2nd graders. A total of 33 pages full of reading and phonic activities. Along with reading and writing, there are matching, cutting, and pasting activities. CVC Word Families for Beginning Readers: Stamp it, Make it, Trace it, and Write it
ELA, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Lesson Plans, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

This CVC unit is engaging for students as they practice reading and learning the short vowel sounds while students cut and make the words, trace the words, write the words, and stamp out the words. Reading short vowel / rhyming words is an introduction to reading. Repetitive practice of reading these words is also another fundamental practice to help students read. In this unit, students will practice word families that have the same ending. Teach students that word families rhyme and only have a different beginning sound. For each word family, students will practice making, tracing, writing, or stamping six different words. Some of the words are proper nouns or names given to people or pets. There are also nonsensical words that are not real. The purpose of these words is to teach how to sound out words only within the same word family. File contains the following word family worksheets : ad, an, at, ed, en, et, in, ip, it, og, op, ot, ug, un, ut. It also includes all the letters needed to cut out for the "make it" worksheets . What's included for the word families: Short a at family (mat, fat, cat, sat, hat, and pat) an family (fan, ran, man, can, tan, and pan) ad family (mad, sad, bad, dad, had, and pad) Short e ed family (Ned, bed, Ted, red, ped, and ded) en family (ten, men, den, Ben, hen, and pen) et family (set, met, bet, let, get, and pet) Short i in family (bin, win, sin, fin, tin, and pin) ip family (hip, rip, tip, lip, zip, and sip) it family (bit, kit, fit, sit, hit, and pit) Short o og family (log, hog, dog, bog, fog, and jog) op family (hop, top, pop, cop, bop, and mop) ot family (lot, hot, rot, dot, pot, and got) Short u ug family (dug, rug, bug, hug, mug, and jug) un family (run, sun, nun, fun, pun, and bun) ut family (but, cut, nut, hut, rut, and gut) For a list of other phonics and grammar activities, click on the following links: CVC Word Families for Beginning Readers: Stamp it, Make it, Trace it, and Write it CVC Words | Short Vowel Phonics | Word Families for K- 2nd Grade Phonics for 1st and 2nd Grade: Help Students Learn Long A Words: AY, AI, A_E, EIGH, EY, and EA Phonics for 1st and 2nd Grade: Help Students Learn Long E Words: EE, EA, E_E, and Y Phonics for 1st and 2nd Grade: Help Students Learn Long I Words: I_E, IE, IGH, and Y Phonics for 1st and 2nd Grade: Help Students Learn Long O Words: O_E, OA, OW, OE, and OUGH Phonics for 1st and 2nd Grade: Help Students Learn Long U Words: U_E, EW, OO, UE, UI and OU Phonics / Digraphs for 1st and 2nd Grade: Beginning, Middle, and Ending Sounds Phonics / Digraphs for 1st -2nd: Ending Sounds: CK, NG, SH, TH, and NK Phonics / Digraphs for 1st and 2nd Grade: Beginning Sounds: SH, TH, WH and PH Phonics: R-Controlled Words for 1st and 2nd Grade and Early Readers

Phonic Worksheets for Early Years/Intervention - Growing Bundle

Phonic Worksheets for Early Years/Intervention - Growing Bundle
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Teacher Tools, Lesson Plans, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Activities, Games

This is a pack of Bumper Pack of 14 (to date) books of phonic worksheets for the digraphs: L blends, CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA especially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? PDF's of worksheets each covering the sounds: L Blends. CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA, all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Over 180+ Worksheets: Your phonics lessons covered! Tracking, fluency triangles, spelling, reading, games, comprehension exercises....and more! Some sounds contain print-and-go games to make learning fun. AR and A-E each contain a board game. Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 12 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound (except the Consonant L-Blends) with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give this a week after we finish the book, to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included in most books. Phonic Games are also included for AR and A-E to make learning more fun! What is included? 10 PDFs totalling 150 + worksheets each covering the sounds: CK, SH, CH, TH, OO, EE, OR, AR, A-E, I-E, O-E, U-E, AI and EA, 2 PDF games for AR and A-E in full colour and black and white

Ready to Read -at Word Family Active Instruction Lesson 1

Ready to Read -at Word Family Active Instruction Lesson 1
ELA, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Preschool, Grade 1, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools

Ready to Read – Word Family -at with Picture Reinforcement. Multi-Sensory Instruction with a Letter and Sound Review, Auditory Drill, Blending Drill, Decodable Reading, Word Dictation, and a Phonemic Awareness Activity : Rhyme. These lessons were created to use with whole group blended learning (virtual and in-person students) for kindergarten and beginning First Grade. They were so successful that once all students returned to in-person instruction, I continued using them. All students can easily see the Smartboard, and it is so much easier than if I have to juggle letter cards, books, and different materials. I can easily save different versions of the presentation, and edit each one to fit the needs of various students for additional work with a tutor or in small group. It also works well with small groups, RTI, Resource, and SPED. These lessons build on each other, and will eventually last about 30 - 45 minutes depending on changes you make, the size of your group, and the pace. Of course, some students/classes go through quicker, some slower, so adapt as needed. These earlier lessons are quicker – Lesson 1 (-at) has 120 slides and you can actually click through it in about 5 minutes. But it takes longer when your students are learning what to do, and you must also factor in time for them to get paper and pencil and complete the 5-word dictation at the end of the lesson. So estimate a 30 minute block initially and modify and adapt as needed. You will download a zip file that contains a PowerPoint Presentation, a note to read first, a file with extra slides if you need to change or add some slides, and a PDF that has a link to make a copy in Google Slides if you do not use PowerPoint. The slides start out with a quick attention-getter, followed by letter review - say letter, say sound, and keyword (" B, ball, /b/"). All letters are included, however, I typically use only the ones my students need to work on and not in alphabetical order - especially in later lessons. You may want to do this first lesson in alphabetical order and change future lessons to meet your needs as you see how this works for your class. This is followed by an auditory drill. IF you have letter tiles or magnetic letters, this is a great time to get those out. If not, just use the letter tiles on the SmartBoard without additional student material or have them air write the letters or write with crayons, pencil and paper, or simply say the letter. For this, there are letter tiles on the slide. The teacher says the sound of one of the letters. The students repeat the sound and then identify the letter. For example, teacher says /b/. Students repeat /b/ and then say B. If they have letter tiles or magnetic letters they can pull those, or point to them. There is a fun "sneak peak" of the word family - an embedded video "If you can read -at." I do not own rights to this video and cannot guarantee it will always be available. If the link is no longer available, delete that slide, or add your own link to something related. Then we are on to blending. Students say the sound of the letter the car is beneath. /a/ on one slide, /t/ on the next. Then the car "drives" beneath "at" and the students will read "at." This continues through multiple -at word family words. Time to Read - this starts with reading the words we just blended. A picture of the word on the following slides reinforce the correct answer, and really help out some of the students who struggle more - they are able to put that picture reinforcement with the word which really helps many students. High Frequency Word Review. Slides for Red Words, Sight Words, and Trick Words are included in an additional file, so you can easily use the term that correlates with your preference or curriculum. Add any other words you are working on. I have a few basic ones, and what the students will need to read the next slides. Sentence Reading - a few very basic sentences. Especially here on this first lesson. The presentations will build on each other, so students constantly review what they have learned and build on it. We then review rhyme - Thumbs up or down with rhyming pairs. Typically phonemic awareness activities are done prior to a lesson like this, but for the past couple of years, my students had so much trouble with rhyme, and when I put the rhyming activity after all the word family work, they are more successful than if I start with it. Of course, you can move the rhyme slides to the beginning of the presentation if you want to stick with traditional format. Finally, there is the Exit Ticket or Dictation - slides show pictures from earlier in the lesson - in this presentation, there is a cat, a rat, a hat, a bat, and finally a mat. They will write each word on their paper (or if you have your letter tiles or magnetic letters you can easily use them). Written work is important, and it will help show progress, allow you to examine which students need help and hopefully see their misconceptions, and it helps you to give grades if required. Orton-Gillingham, IMSE, Wilson Reading System, and FUNdations curriculums influenced the way this is put together. If you have access to Hooked on Phonics Videos, they work well to plug into these lessons. They are quick little "brain brakes" of sorts, or sometimes attention getters, but always educational and catchy, and my students loved them.

Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Vocabulary, Writing, Grade 1, 2, 3, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools

About This Product This is a pack of 49 Phonic OO worksheets to teach the OO, specially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic, but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. These sheets are LETRS/Science of Reading and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out throughout the worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word before blending the sounds. We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give this a week after we finish the book, to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included. What is included in the pack: 46 Activities 2 Games Flashcards Please note: This pack is in a series: Find the bundle here: https://teachsimple.com/product/phonic-worksheets-for-special-needs-bundle-highly-structured I do hope others find these Special Needs Phonic worksheets helpful for their pupils with ordering and processing difficulties!

Ready to Read -ad Word Family Active Instruction Lesson 4

Ready to Read -ad Word Family Active Instruction Lesson 4
ELA, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Preschool, Grade 1, Lesson Plans, Teacher Tools

Ready to Read – Word Family -ad Reading with Picture Reinforcement. Multi-Sensory Instruction with Letter and Sound Review, Auditory Drill, Blending Drill, Decodable Reading, Word Dictation, and a Phonemic Awareness Activity : Rhyme. Lesson 4 in a series. These lessons build on each other, and last about 30 - 45 minutes depending on changes you make, the size of your group, and the pace. Of course, some students/classes go through quicker, some slower, so adapt as needed. Lesson 4 (-ad) has 177 slides. All letters are included in alphabetical order, however, I typically use only the ones my students need to work on and not in alphabetical order - especially in later lessons. Use as is, or delete or move slides around based on the needs of your class. IF you teach qu instead of q you can find that option in the file with extra slides - simply click slide 23, select "format background," select "picture or texture fill," and from the included file, select "qu option." This is followed by an auditory drill. Then we move to blending. Students say the sound of the letter the car is beneath. For example, On one slide, the car is beneath the letter h, so the students say /h/. Next slide, the car is beneath the letter a and the students make the short /a/ sound. Following slide, car beneath letter d, students say /d/. Finally the car "drives" beneath all three letters and the students read "had." This continues through multiple -ad word family words. Time to Read - this starts with reading the words we just blended. A picture of the word on the following slides reinforce the correct answer, and really help out some of the students who struggle more - they are able to put that picture reinforcement with the word which really helps many students. Sight Words. Slides for High Frequency Words, Red Words, and Trick Words are included in an additional file, so you can easily use the term that correlates with your preference or curriculum. Add any other words you are working on. I have a few basic ones, and what the students will need to read the next slides. Sentence Reading - a few very basic sentences. Finally, there is the Exit Ticket or Dictation - slides show pictures from earlier in the lesson plus one from a previous lesson (always reviewing).
