Mo Willems is the author of the Pigeon book series. The books contain large amounts of vocabulary designed for k-2nd graders. However, the pictures are so simple and adorable, they can be enjoyed by people of all ages. I adore this series so much that i have collected all of them despite that my son is almost 20 years old. As a result, I created the first of what I hope to be a series of reading comprehension and guided reading activity packs to make learning more fun for early elementary students as well as special education students and those with special needs in the areas of speech and communication. The book, "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late," is required reading in order for students to complete all of the activities. It is available for purchase at Amazon and at Mo Willems own website. You can also find it at your local library to check out. Students will practice reading and learn about grammar, spelling, and increase vocabulary. Activities include: Open-ended questions, writing prompts, based on the text in the book. Sight word recognition activities 32 Spelling Words 32 Vocabulary Words Alphabetization Fill-in-the-Blank Drawing And More Students will be given the opportunity to search for: 14 CVC words found in the book 14 nouns found in the book 18 sight words found in the book Great for: Reading Centers Literature Centers Guided Reading Read aloud activities Practicing Social and Emotional Skills Pigeon books are written so that the reader is directly being spoken to by the Pigeon. What I love is that she has no clue she's doing this fancy "cross-curricular" learning - she is just genuinely fascinated. And can I just say how nice it is when a resource does not require me to spend hours figuring out how to teach it? Everything flows so naturally from one topic to the next. The other day she came to me with this question about how pumpkins spread to different continents, and I am thinking, "When did my kid start caring about agricultural migration patterns?" It is these moments that remind me exactly why we chose to homeschool. Taking something as ordinary as a pumpkin sitting on our porch and turning it into this amazing learning adventure - that is the good stuff right there. Writing Our Lives: A Memoir Unit

Introduction Middle school and high school students are at the age where they are changing rapidly, entering new phases in their growing up. They are beginning to reflect on their past as they look toward the future. They are ripe for writing a memoir or a personal narrative. "Writing Our Lives: A Memoir Unit" is a 65-page standards-aligned unit that provides teachers with a four or five-week unit (depending on whether you use all the mentor texts) that includes daily lessons to help students delve deeply into memoir reading and writing. This unit is appropriate for all students in grades 6-12 who are ELD, ESL students, General Ed students, RSP students, and even GATE students. A thorough lesson plan on the well-known drama "An Inspector Calls" by J.D. Priestley. The play's action takes place in an industrial city in England, where a young girl kills herself and a well-known British family is routinely investigated in relation to the death. All of the family members are either directly or indirectly implicated in the girl's downfall. As a result, an inspector calls to investigate the family. Before the evening is done, the close-knit and amiable family is revealed to be cowardly, selfish, or self-centered, its good humor turning to sour, and its pleasant fellowship to despised. Every step of the 90-minute lesson is included in the lesson plan. It includes the 'An Inspector Calls || 7 Minute Summary' YouTube video from the Easy as GCSE channel. A student worksheet that may be printed has a lot of activities and answers at the end. Enjoy teaching classic literature to your students!

This Unit focuses on the Long U Sounds! Learning how to read can be the most challenging activity for students and for a teacher. Understanding that the combination of letters can make the same vowel sound requires lots of repetitive practice of reading and writing these words with these sounds. There are other phonics units that I sell that focuses on the Long A sound with a combination of different letters, the Long E sound with a combination of different letters, the Long I sound with a combination of different letters, and the Long O sound with a combination of different letters. Reading can be made easier with these phonic helps that repeatedly encourage students to practice these Long U sounds. Activities include reading comprehension and identifying the Long U in their reading, writing their answers to questions regarding the paragraph, identifying additional Long U words in sentences using a word bank, matching words with pictures, spinning a paperclip activity where students will write the word with the Long U sound, and lastly a fun wordsearch with variations of Long U words. These activities are for each long vowel words that are focused on the Long U sounds so there are plenty of opportunities for students to practice their comprehension reading skills and phonic sounds. Students will practice the following Long U Word sounds: U_E, EW, OO, UE, UI and OU. Teachers can use this resource in whole group, individually with students, students can practice with each other in centers, or these worksheets can be assigned as homework. Worksheets are also differentiated for each Long U sounds for all young learners which makes it perfect for all 1st - 2nd graders. A total of 38 pages full of reading and phonic activities. Along with reading and writing there are matching, cutting, and pasting activities. Word searches and spin and make a word activity are also a part of this packet which make learning to read these phonic sounds entertaining for young learners.
