This third 16-page book is 99% decodable, using limited sight words like "is" and "the" to tell a simple, humorous story. The large font and fluency charts support beginning or struggling readers. This SP fun, Find and Color worksheet for beginning blends is Splendid for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the SP blend. What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on each worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheets unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature, they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.

Initial sounds Phonics Test This is a fun test to find out whether children can hear the initial, or beginning sound of words, or not. The test requires the teacher to ask: What sound does _____ begin with? The child has bright colourful pictures on each of the three pages and plenty of space to record his/her answer next to each picture. Who is the Initial Sounds Phonics Test for? This test is for anyone who teaches the initial sounds to children, be that Pre-K, K, ESL, EFL, Private tutors, home educators, or parents at home. Full instructions as to how to administer the test are provided, including solutions in case of misidentification of pictures. Format: The test has a bright cover, with space for the child’s name. it also includes a quick reference chart so that the teacher can quickly see which sounds a child does not yet know. Instructions and rationale: Print as a booklet (A3 paper required), or print the A4 pages individually and staple them together. Full instructions are included. Testing has got a bad name, but it is crucial that every teacher informally tests all of their pupils regularly to make sure that every child is ready for the next step. If we wish children to succeed in learning to read and spell with phonics, then we must check this very first skill thoroughly. Children will not think it is a test, with its bright pictures and appealing layout. Testing tips: Make sure every child can hear the initial sounds before they start to blend. This product is a set of 17 assessment tests for all grade 2 math standards and grade 2 ELA standards related to language, grammar, phonics, parts of speech, and sentence structure. (This product does NOT include reading, reading comprehension, or writing. There are 7 math tests (one for each unit of learning, spread throughout the year), and 8 language arts tests (one for each unit of learning, spread throughout the year), plus a final math test and a final language arts test, both of which cover all topics included on the first 15 ELA and math tests. Please note: some of the test items contain multiple problems. (For example #4 might contain several addition problems.) You can choose to count all of the problems as one (aka- if they miss even one, they lose points for the whole section), or you can just deduct a fraction of a point if one of several problems within a numbered problem is missed. The tests are a total of 53 pages, with 23 additional pages being the answer keys, for a total of 76 pages in the document. There is a score line at the top of each test: number correct out of total number of items. (I write students' percentages in a separate grade book.
