Tally Marks Game – Learning to Count with a Soccer Twist Similar to Dobble / Spot it! It is unique to each element, like a fingerprint. The table further organizes the elements into rows and columns. The rows are called “periods”. The elements in the same row have the same number of electron shells. For example, elements in row/period 1 have 1 electron shell. The columns are called “groups”. The elements in the same column have the same number of electrons in their outermost shell. For example, elements in column/group 1 have 1 electron in their outermost shell. In 1869, chemist Dmitri Mendeleev developed the Periodic Table. He organized the elements based on their similar physical and chemical properties. The table shows the element’s name, its symbol, the atomic number in the upper left corner, and the atomic mass in the bottom left corner. The atomic number gives the number of protons in the element’s atom. The atomic mass gives the average number of protons and neutrons in the element’s atom. By knowing the location of an element on the Periodic Table, you can determine the number of protons, neutrons and electrons that are contained in its atom.

A set of hand-illustrated watercolor animal flashcards . Each card features an illustration of an animal native to either the arctic or antarctic regions and their name in a pre-cursive font. There are 12 cards in total. This set can be expanded by adding our penguin species flash cards. To create a tactile finished item I highly recommend printing onto high-quality paper, I like to use watercolor paper as this also allows the children to add their own paintings to the pages they create and means that every piece looks and feels like an original painting.

This set of Silent E PowerPoint Flashcards has been created to help pupils differentiate between long and short vowel sounds. Many pupils, especially those with a processing difficulty, struggle to swap quickly from one to another, and therefore, much practice is needed. Aim and objective Once I start to teach Powerful ‘e’, I incorporate these flashcards into my daily lesson starter. My aim is that the child internalises the sounds so that on seeing a powerful ‘e’, they can say the right vowel sound and vice versa. This enables accurate blending and reduces frustration for the child caused by choosing the wrong vowel sound. How to use the Silent 'e' PowerPoint flashcards Work through the slides one by one. Teach the child to say the name made by the letters, followed by the word. They can use the picture as a cue. Do not underestimate the role of the picture to help the child give the correct sound. The more the correct sound is given, the sooner the child will internalise the sounds. Once the pupil seems confident, try using the set of slides without pictures! This can be done in stages, removing the pictures for the short vowel sounds first. Always return to the pictures if the child begins to choose the wrong vowel sound. We do not want them to struggle, even though we want to help them recall the correct sound. A balance must be found. What is included: Five vowel flashcards with picture cues Four Silent 'e' flashcards with picture cues (I do not teach E_E in the early stages as the few words with this sound that a child needs are best taught as sight words (e.g. here). Five vowel flashcards without picture cues Four Silent 'e' flashcards without picture cues An activity An Activity: The activity involves words appearing on the screen one by one. The child is asked: Does it have an ‘e’? Yes, or no. What sound will the vowel make? (short sound, or long name) Can you sound out the word using that vowel sound? Click for the next word. The words can be edited to change the activity. The PowerPoint is A4 format, so the slides can be printed out to form physical matching flashcards.

Longtime fans have been asking us to make this long vowel resource for a while, and we have finally decided to take the plunge. It turned out to be a pretty awesome resource. First off, use the PDF based digital file to introduce these long vowel sounds to your students. You just open the file and show it full screen. Then use the arrow keys to go from one page to another. This way you can also stop the slideshow if something is too difficult for your students. After this, you can give them the digital multiple choice test. The correct answer will be circled in green and the incorrect ones are red. This makes it abundantly clear what the right answer is. But there are a bunch of printable files as well. How about the vocab lists en tests? And then there are the flash cards too, either with round or with sharp corners. All and all, a very complete resource to practice long vowel sounds.
