Comparing Fractions Worksheet: Number Line & Fraction Word Problems

Comparing Fractions Worksheet: Number Line & Fraction Word Problems
Math, Number Lines, Fractions, Grade 3, 4, 5, Teacher Tools, Assessments, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Word Problems

Here’s a ready-to-go, visual assessment of your students’ understanding of ordering and comparing fractions (with like denominators)! They simply cut and paste to show their knowledge of this topic. A worksheet with three comprehension questions is also included! How to Use this Product: Print a two-page worksheet for each student. Do not double-side as they will be cutting. Students cut out the eighths and order them on the number line. I recommend they start with 4/8 and glue it at the halfway point benchmark to space them evenly. Students cut out the sixths and order them on the number line. I recommend they start with 3/6 and glue it at the halfway point benchmark to space them evenly. Your early finishers can cut out the last four challenge fractions and determine where they fall on the number line. This allows them to start to practice early equivalent fraction ideas. Assign students some or all of the comprehension questions on the second worksheet. These questions help students begin to compare fractions with unlike denominators and look for simple equivalent fractions (one half and one whole) in a visual way. This product is designed to be a simple and quick assessment of fraction concepts: comparing and ordering fractions with like denominators, using a number line, common fraction benchmarks, and early fraction equivalency ideas. Of course, you could also use it as an activity in your unit, a homework worksheet, or a math centre. Grades to Use With: This product is well-suited for students in grades 3-5. It could also be used in middle school special education classes. What's Included: 4 Page PDF: Title Page, Number Line Worksheet, Math Questions Worksheet, Answer Key If you enjoy this product, check out other math activities in my store: Grace Under Pressure Pre-Algebra Skills: Expressions, Tables, and Graphs: Real-Life Application in the Wave Pool Problem Multiplication and Addition of Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions in Butter Tart Recipe Activity Practice Decimals, Fractions, and Percentages Using Tenths in Gingerbread Math Equivalent Fractions Practice in a set of 5 Stations

Change the nature of instruction for fractions, and help all students by using this complete, evidence-based guide for teaching fractions to students who may have any or all of the following: Dyscalculia, Learning Disabilities in Mathematics, or Anxiety with regard to mathematics. Are you an educator or parent looking for an effective way to teach your students with prior difficulties with abstract mathematic concepts? If so, this is the resource for which you have been searching. This is NOT just another worksheet packet. This is a complete neuro-informed intervention system built to circumvent all cognitive barriers common to the students you teach, and create true and lasting understanding of fractions that will be retained for the remainder of the student's educational career. By following the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) framework along with the principles of cognitive science, this guide provides students with a means for teaching fractions in a way that they will finally be able to process and master from their neurodivergent brain perspective. Your students will no longer suffer from mathematics anxiety or the "Whole Number Bias", which results in students believing that 1/8 is greater than 1/3. We use Linear Fraction Bars as a visual aid and High Contrast Visual Mapping to make fractions tangible and explainable to students through the use of their neural systems, thus enabling students to understand fractions as Predictable and Intuitive. We deliberately avoid all of the Circular Fraction Models (i.e., Pizza) that confuse students with poor or absent spatial perception. THIS 37-PAGE COMPREHENSIVE GUIDELINE CONSISTS OF: The Educators Guide: This document consists of an in-depth look at the "why" behind the method in phase one. It will include definitions of the cognitive make-up behind dyscalculia, the incorrectness of standard methods, and the architectural guidelines for creating educational tools, including manipulatives that are compatible with how the brain works. This phase will also include case studies based on individual students that can be utilized in grade-level math classes. The Student Workbook: Phase Two will consist of a sequential ten part set of worksheets that will serve as step-by-step guides for students in grades three through five. In other words, the first page of the ten page guide will help students learn what a numerator and a denominator are before they then will be a part of the worksheet on determining whether two fractions are equal or comparable. The remainder of the pages will continue to follow the same sequence, with the last page covering mixed numbers. The Teacher Resources and Visual Aids Section: This section contains all the resources necessary for teacher's to correctly implement the above two guides. In addition to possessing high-resolution diagnostic diagrams that can be utilized in the classroom, this section also contains an answer key that has been developed with pedagogical notes included, and a clinical implementation guide that contains scripted interventions for how to address common errors made by students. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING Group: Individuals who provide direct instructional support to students with disabilities and other struggles in mathematics, such as: SE Teachers/Specialists Math Interventionists/ Specialists (Tier 2 & 3) Resource Room/Co-Teach Models Tutor and Educational Therapists Homeschool Parents General Ed Teachers who want to use effective differentiation strategies. Break the cycle of poor math performance. Get your students the tools they need to develop confidence and obtain true mastery of fractions through this master guide through the Math Anxiety. Key Terms: Dyscalculia, Math Intervention, Special Education Math, Fractions, Visual Math, Manipulatives, Math Anxiety, Learning Disabilities, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Grade, Homeschooling, RTI, Math Support, Number Sense, *CPA Framework (Concrete, Picture, Abstract) Teacher’s Guide. Reasons Why Parents/Schools Are Enthusiastic About This Resource: Evidence Based and Neuro-informed: This is truly not just a collection of activities but rather a structured program based on cognitive science; designed specifically to help students whom have dyscalculia. Eliminates Math Anxiety: The clear, visual, step-by-step approach removes uncertainty and abstract confusion which builds student confidence and creates a positive attitude ("I can do math") about math. Comprehensive All-In-One System: The complete package allows educators to save a tremendous amount of time in planning. It contains the theoretical document, the workbook (student-facing) as well as the full answer key that contains additional clinical cues. This resource is ready for immediate use as an intervention resource. Promotes True Understanding, Not Just Rote Memorization: By making fractions physical and visual, this program goes beyond mere memorization of rules and fosters true, deep conceptual understanding, which can be applied to future concepts. Highly Targeted for Intervention: This resource is an excellent Tier 2/3 resource for intervention, special education resource rooms, tutoring, and homeschooling. It provides very powerful and focused support, right where struggling learners require it most. An in-depth analysis of the content, research, and worksheets indicates the primary target audiences are: Special Education Teachers: This is a critical instructional support for teachers within this specialty since the resource was designed specifically for students diagnosed with learning disabilities. Math Interventionists: This resource meets the needs of small groups of students (Tier 2 and Tier 3) who are considerably below grade level in mathematics. Educational Therapists and Tutors: Qualified professionals who provide one-on-one support to students with dyscalculia. Homeschooling Parents: Especially for those children who have a diagnosis or possibly math deficits. Targeted Grade Levels: The component will specifically target grades three, four and five because all of the fractions address fundamental fractions through to adding fractions and mixed numbers, which are all taught at these grade levels. Fractions to Decimals – Number Line Cut & Paste

Fractions to Decimals – Number Line Cut & Paste
Math, Number Lines, Decimals, Fractions, Grade 4, 5, 6, Teacher Tools, Assessments, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Here’s a ready-to-go, visual assessment of your students’ understanding of decimal and fraction benchmarks! They simply cut and paste to show their comprehension of this topic. This is a great way for students with different ability levels (and English comprehension levels) to show their math knowledge: without being hampered by reading comprehension or written output challenges. This one-page assessment includes a number line from 0 to 1. Students first cut out 14 decimal and fraction pairs (common benchmarks like 1/2 and 0.333) and determine where they should be pasted on the number line. This ensures they know the decimal value of each fraction given and how to order them by size. For an extra challenge, 4 more fractions and decimals are given (such as 11/12- that are not familiar benchmarks). Students must estimate where they would be placed on the number line and glue them there. How to Use this Product: This product is designed to be a simple and quick assessment of fraction and decimal conversion, estimating, using a number line, and common fraction and decimal benchmarks. Of course, you could also use it as an activity in your unit, a homework worksheet, or a math centre. Grades to Use With: This product is well-suited for students in grades 4-6. It aligns to 4th Grade Common Core Standards in the United States and Grade 5 Mathematics Standards in British Columbia, Canada. Here's a fun and hands-on way for your students to practice estimating square roots & cube roots using logical mental math strategies and known benchmarks. It's a simple matching game for students in 8th & 9th grade when they are learning about square roots & cube roots in math class. How to Use: Print a worksheet for each of your students along with a set of 24 matching cards for each group of two to four students. First, students need to complete their Square and Cube Roots Cheat Sheet. Give them time in class to do this in pairs or small groups. They should hold on to this sheet for the whole unit as it will be a useful resource. Let them practice estimating square and cube roots with the five practice questions. Go over mental math strategies as a class (use the answer key for ideas). When it’s time for the game, give groups of students one set of 24 cards. They need to shuffle the cards and match them up. They could do this several ways: Play as a memory matching game : spread cards facedown, flip 2 cards, see if they match, flip them back if they don’t. Play like Go Fish - ask the other players for certain cards. Or just spread all the cards out face-up, match up a pair, and explain why it’s a match . Grades to Use With: This game is designed to target 8th grade math learning outcomes about square roots, cube roots, mental math, and estimation. It could be used in 9th grade as a review activity. Real-Life Integers: Working with Integers & Number Lines Grade 6 Math

Real-Life Integers: Working with Integers & Number Lines Grade 6 Math
Math, Number Lines, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Subtraction, Numbers, Grade 5, 6, 7, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Activities, Worksheets

Integers are everywhere in our lives! Get your students excited about learning about integers including using number lines and finding the difference between integers in a variety of real-life situations. This is perfect for students in grade six who are first learning about rational numbers. Social Media: Up Votes and Down Votes: You will read each statement one at a time to your class. Then ask for upvotes (and count the hands) and ask for downvotes (and count the hands). Remind students they can abstain from voting on a statement if they are ambivalent. If you think it will help your class, have students vote anonymously by putting their heads down. Record the upvotes and downvotes for each of the 10 statements. Students complete the math (which is really adding integers) to get each statement’s final score. (Extension: This activity can lead to a mini-lesson on facts vs. opinions.) Cities: Temperatures and Elevations: Students will need internet access for this activity. They will explore two cities: one with a positive temperature in degrees Celsius and one with a negative temperature in degrees Celsius. Using a number line, they will compare these two temperatures. Then, they must find the elevation (in meters) of six cities around the world to complete three math questions. Sports: Golf and Football: Students will apply adding and subtracting integers to a golf game to calculate the player’s score above or below par. Then, they use integers to calculate if a football team scores a touchdown. (Extension: Students can create their own football scenario. They can choose a starting point, make up 5 plays, and trade with a friend. ) Financial Literacy: Bank Account: Students add and subtract integers to keep a running bank balance in an account with an overdraft. They see how purchases reduce your balance and deposits increase your balance. I have included two versions, one with decimals and one with whole numbers only.

Absolute Value Worksheets: Real World 6th Grade Math 6.NS.C.7.C
Math, Number Lines, Numbers, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Worksheets & Printables, Word Problems, Worksheets

Absolute Value can be a tricky topic to teach. It seems so easy and simple, but students actually need a strong, conceptual understanding of it for later years in middle school and high school math, so it definitely can't be skipped or glossed over! Here's a ready-to-go lesson all about absolute value for students in 6th grade. It is designed to meet standard CCSS 6.NS.C.7.c This lesson could also be a great review for students in grades 7 or 8 or could even be used in high school special education classrooms. First, there is a simple handout that explains what absolute value is using an easy, visual analogy: a dart board. Then, there are two pages of real-world questions for students to approach using an understanding of absolute value. From bank accounts, to elevation, to temperatures, to golf games, we actually use absolute value regularly in our number system without even noticing it! These questions require students to use number lines, integers, and absolute value proficiently. Students will notice how depending on the question, you may need to use an integer or an absolute value. They will start to see how absolute value can be helpful when calculating the difference between two numbers on a number line. A complete answer key is also included! Rounding decimals to the nearest whole number, 1/10th or 1/100th

Rounding decimals to the nearest whole number, 1/10th or 1/100th
Math, Number Lines, Decimals, Place Value, Grade 5, 6, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

The number line is ideal for introducing rounding decimal numbers to a specific place value. Here we focus on numbers containing tenths, hundredths and thousandths and then round each of these to the nearest whole number, or numbers to 1d.p or 2 d.p. Worksheet Sets Worksheet Set 1: The focus here is on rounding numbers written to 1 d.p. to the nearest whole number. Students are encouraged firstly to find the number on the number lines provided before doing the actual rounding. Worksheet Set 2: Numbers written to 2 d.p. need to be rounded to either the nearest whole number or to 1d.p. Worksheet Set 3: Numbers written to 3 d.p. need to be rounded to either the nearest whole number, tenth or hundredth. In this worksheet the language of the questions is much more varied. How many worksheets are in each set ? Lots and lots. At the click of a button all numbers are randomised, so the questions change every time. This will allow you to create as many new worksheets you will need for practice throughout the year (classwork, homework, revision, fillers etc) or even give small groups of students in your class different sets of questions . There will certainly be enough to ensure fluency in this topic. There is also a set of ready made worksheets at the 3 levels shown above. Digital Teaching Material Designed to help you introduce the content of (all) the worksheets to the whole class on an Interactive Whiteboard, or on a PC or Mac for 1-1 tuition and similar to the Worksheets you have (almost) unlimited examples to practice with. Need to help your students in grades 5-8 learn how to plot ordered-pairs including negative numbers? Want to make sure they are engaged and focused while doing it? This activity will get them involved and allow them to take ownership over their learning as they create cute images on a four-quadrant Cartesian grid! At the same time, students will practice their math skills with integers and start to notice symmetry in ordered pairs. What happens when an ordered pair is symmetrical with another over the y axis? What about over the x axis? What do they noticed about the two digits in the ordered pair? Lots of great math talks can stem from this activity! Check out the three sections of this lesson: students graph a list of ordered pairs which will create an image of a cat: They need to be precise and careful during this process if they want to get the final product! students use a blank 4-quadrant grid to create their own design and record their ordered pairs in a list: They can be as creative as they like during this part of the lesson: creating an image from their favourite TV show or book! students use a friend's list of ordered pairs to re-create their design on a third 4-quadrant grid: They will be excited to see if they can accurately graph their friend's design! Grades to Use With: This project is perfect for students in grades 5-8 who are learning about graphing, plotting, and integers. It could also be used in high school special education classrooms. What's Included: 4 Page PDF: Title Page, Student Plotting Task, Student Design Task, Blank Grid to Plot Friend's Design If you enjoy this hands-on math activity, check out others in my store: Grace Under Pressure I love to show students how the math skills they learn in class can be used in real-life in fun and engaging ways!
