Health Coloring Pages: Strawberry Counting & Tracing (0–12)

Health Coloring Pages: Strawberry Counting & Tracing (0–12)
Health, P.E. & Health, Early Math, Math, Counting, Numbers, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Coloring Pages, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Healthy Eating Fun: Strawberry Seed Counting & Writing (0–12) I made this strawberry-themed activity pack to combine early math practice with a simple healthy foods theme. Coloring is included because so many kids like to color! And it’s a fun way to sneak in number sense and fine-motor skills. This pack really requires no prep (just print and go), and it will work well for preschool, kindergarten, or early first grade learners who need repeated practice with counting, number recognition, and tracing. Students count the seeds, circle the correct number from the choices provided. Each page also includes tracing practice for the words “strawberry seeds,” plus a reminder to read the words out loud. I love these graphics! They're so bright and colorful! As a dietitian, I love making products that encourage healthy eating while being fun at the same time. There’s also a simple direction to color in the numbers, which makes this a great fit for teachers who are looking for health/food coloring pages that still have a real academic purpose. My activity pack includes counting pages that cover 0 through 12, so you can choose the number range that fits your students (0–5 for beginners, 0–10 for most learners or extend to 12 for a challenge). These activities can be used in a math center, for independent work, morning tubs, early finisher folders, small group practice, or send-home review. I've also included is a cut-and-order activity that teachers so that students get to practice their scissors skills as well. The activity is simple, students simply cut out the strawberries, color the numbers, if they like, and then arrange them in the correct order as well as match the number to the strawberry with the correct number of seeds. This adds sequencing and number sense practice and will your students a fine motor option. I added a bonus, “What Makes Strawberries So Healthy?” page with short statements and writing lines, which is perfect for teaching a little nutrition and encourage students to eat more fruit--especially strawberries! This product includes: • Strawberry seed counting + writing pages (0–12) • Tracing “strawberry seeds” and reading the words out loud • Cut-and-order number sequencing activity • Bonus healthy eating page about strawberries File Type: PDF (print-and-go)

Journey Through South Africa: Guided Reading Level S with Lesson Plan

Journey Through South Africa: Guided Reading Level S with Lesson Plan
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Geography, Social Studies, History, Life Sciences, Government, Grade 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments, Lesson Plans

This A Journey Through South Africa (level s) guided reading book with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: A Journey Through South Africa Genre: Nonfiction Subject: Social Studies (Geography/Culture/History) Primary Topic: South Africa’s geography, wildlife, history, and cultural life Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): S What This Book Teaches Best Country overview and civics detail: South Africa’s location at Africa’s southernmost tip and its unusual system of three capital cities (Pretoria, Cape Town, Bloemfontein). Landforms and unique plant life: Table Mountain as a major landmark and part of a national park with many plant species found nowhere else. Habitats, wildlife, and conservation: Coastal habitats (including African penguins) and inland grasslands/savannas connected to the “Big Five” and protection of animals and environments. Modern cities and historical change: Johannesburg’s growth after gold discovery and South Africa’s journey from apartheid toward equality and democracy through Nelson Mandela’s leadership. Culture and identity through arts and community life: Traditions, music, and dance (Zulu and Xhosa) plus artistic expression like Ndebele painting and beadwork with special meanings. Learning Goals Students will identify South Africa’s three capital cities and explain each city’s role as described in the text. Students will describe two natural features or habitats in South Africa (for example, Table Mountain or the coastline) using details from the text. Students will explain how the text describes South Africa’s coastline and name the oceans it includes. Students will describe the inland grasslands and savannas and identify animals included in the text’s “Big Five.” Students will explain what apartheid was and describe how the text says South Africa moved toward equality and democracy. Students will describe at least two examples of South African culture or identity from the text (music/dance, art/beadwork, sports, or national symbols). Key Vocabulary From the Text southernmost — farthest to the south. administrative — related to running a government or system. savannas — wide grassy areas with some trees. apartheid — unfair system that separated people by race. resilience — strength to recover and keep going. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What do you think you will learn about South Africa’s people, places, and animals? Comprehension questions: What are the three capital cities of South Africa named in the text? Comprehension questions: Which two oceans does the text say border South Africa’s coastline? Comprehension questions: What is the name of the system that separated people by race in South Africa? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . Because each PDF page already contains two facing book pages, the result will still fold cleanly into a book. Thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Give 1 minute for students to write what they already know (no pressure—best guess is fine). Read the five facts together. After each fact, do ask a student for their opinion, was it surprising? Set a purpose by asking students to highlight/underline one fact they want to learn more about during the reading. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. First, ask students to look at the headings and see what they’ll learn about today. What do they know about the topic/heading? First read options: Teacher read-aloud (best for support). Partner reading (paragraph by paragraph). While reading, students underline important details, and vocabulary words they think may come up in the questions section. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Students complete the mcqs first independently, then review quickly as a class. For the 3 written responses, try to get students giving the answer with some form of evidence: “I think ___ because the text says ___.” If students get stuck, send them back to check the passage. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Before starting, have some students read out words they underlined in the passage. Ask students to say the word and read aloud the sentence(s) around each word. Ask students to do scrambled words and the matching exercise in pairs then go through answers as a class. For the scrambled spelling task, get four pairs to come up to the board and write the words for extra practice with the other student reading out the clue. For the matching task, prompt students to give full sentences: “I matched ___ with ___ because ___.” Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Before starting, ask students write down 3 key ideas they are going to include in their piece. Ask students for ideas to share around the class to help those struggling. Pro writing expectations: 5–8 sentences At least 2 facts or details from the passage At least 2 vocabulary words from the previous page Students read their paragraphs while classmates listen for facts and vocabulary words. Extension Activities This page is optional for fast finishers or to take home. There are several activities, each one requiring a different skill. Do some, do none, do all, completely optional - but you will feel reassured knowing every possibility is planned for. Includes summary writting question. Answer Key There are answers for the multiple-choice questions, written response questions have sample answers, vocabulary answers and if there is a summary question then a sample summary will be provided as well. Lesson Plan Included Customized lesson plan for this lesson is included. Lesson Snapshot Title: Rice Genre: Nonfiction (informational text) Subject: Science (Life Science/Agriculture) Primary Topic: How rice was grown and spread Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): R What This Lesson Teaches Best How rice changed from a wild grass into a crop as people “saved the best” seeds and planted them over many seasons. How rice paddies work: shallow flooded fields that help rice grow and can slow weeds while protecting tender plants. How rice spread to new places as traders and travelers carried it along rivers and coasts, with rice learning to fit different climates. How rice has different types (including indica and japonica) and how rice continues changing as farmers and scientists work on challenges like floods, droughts, and plant diseases. Using evidence from the passage to check understanding (some support-page answer choices/answer key items do not match the passage exactly). Learning Goals Explain how people changed rice over time by saving and planting the best seeds each season. Describe what a rice paddy is and how shallow flooding helps rice plants. Identify how rice traveled from Asia to other regions through traders and travelers. Compare indica and japonica using details stated in the text. Describe ways rice continues to change because meals depend on it and it must handle floods, droughts, and diseases. Key Vocabulary From the Text wetlands — watery land where plants grow near rivers. shattering — breaking apart and scattering away. paddies — muddy fields with low banks holding shallow water. indica — a group of long-grained rice types. droughts — long times with very little rain. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What do you already know or wonder about rice and how it grows? Comprehension questions: How did saving the best seeds change rice over many seasons? Comprehension questions: What is a rice paddy, and how does shallow water help rice plants? Comprehension questions: According to the passage, how did rice travel far from home to new places? SM Blend Find and Colour Phonics Worksheet to Develop Phonemic

SM Blend Find and Colour Phonics Worksheet to Develop Phonemic
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

This SM fun, Find and Color worksheet for initial blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the SM blend. This is a sample of our pack of 20 activities covering common initial blends which can be found here in one PDF file: less clutter on your computer! What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.
