In this resource, you will get an engaging game like Apples To Apples. There are 36 strategy cards and 18 situation cards. This is an SEL game. Each person takes a turn with being the judge like Apples to Apples. It is important to make enough sets for the number of groups who will be playing. for example, I recommend at least 3-5 people playing together for each group. So if there are 20 students, then create at least 5 different sets of the cards, Then follow the directions for the game below: First, everyone gets 5 strategy cards. There is no revealing the cards to other players. Then one person is chosen to be the " judge " for the first round. I usually pick the oldest person to make it fair. The judge reveals the card to all and even can read the card out loud. The the other players choose one of their strategy cards to handle that particular situation. Then the judge decides which one they would use. Important; there is not right or wrong here, just what one person would do in that situation. Next the next player goes (usually counter clockwise) to who will be the judge. The person will reveal the situation and the other players will play their strategy card. Play as long as time allows. Next, you can print off the mindfulness coloring sheets for students to color and reinforce the idea or coloring mindfully when they are upset, frustrate, need some time alone, etc. There is a way to change the word and position of the word in the mindfulness coloring sheet. Property Taxes: What they are, rates around the world, what they are used for, and how to calculate them! A great way to practice percent to decimal conversions, decimal operations, and rate and ratio learning! This two-page life skills and math worksheet is a quick and easy personal financial literacy activity for your middle or high school students. The Handout portion introduces your students to: Important vocabulary and definitions: property tax and a home’s assessed value . A variety of global property tax rates (ranging from 0.08% – 2.64%) in locations in the United States, Canada, and even Europe. A prompt about why rates vary (lower rates where property is expensive and higher rates where property is cheaper) is also included. What the money collected from property tax revenues is used for: from schools to sewers and roads to emergency services including fire fighters. The Worksheet portion has real-world math practice for your class: Students are taught how they can calculate an annual property tax amount using percentages converted to decimals. First, they practice converting between percents and decimals. Then, they multiply a home's assessed value by the property tax percentage (written as a decimal) in the municipality. 10 practice math questions are included for your students to work on. Finally, they will research the local property tax rate in their area: great real-life learning! A COMPLETE ANSWER KEY INCLUDED- so there is no guesswork when marking! This ready-to-use personal financial literacy lesson teaches high school students in grades 9-12 all about Capital Gains Taxes and the rules surrounding them in Canada and the USA. Students use middle grades math skills ( decimal operations, percentages ) to calculate realistic capital gains taxes in real-life scenarios involving selling investments such as stocks or bonds, art, or property. What is Included: 1) A Handout that clearly explains what capital gains are, what kinds of assets they are calculated on, and how capital gains taxes are calculated in both Canada and the USA. 2) Two Sample Scenarios of calculating realistic capital gains taxes after the sale of a vacation property and after the sale of some stocks and bonds. 3) A Two-Page Math Worksheet with five practice problems for students to use their math skills to complete (and a prompt for a written reflection). 4) Complete Answer Key: So there is no guesswork or prep required! How to Use: Go through the first two pages (handout and sample scenarios) as a whole class. You can teach the vocabulary words and complete the sample scenarios together so your students can learn how to calculate capital gains taxes step-by-step. Let students complete the two-page worksheet independently or in small groups. Come back together as a class to review the answers and your students’ reflections. They are only numbered for your convenience. At the end of each unit, there is an assessment to test students’ understanding. Through using this Health 1st Grade Unit 3: Nutrition and Physical Activity students will explore and learn to identify: * Students will be able to categorize healthy foods. * Students will be able to identify healthy foods and physical activities to help them stay healthy. * Students will be able to identify active verses inactive and understand the consequences of being active vs inactive At the end of the unit, there is an assessment to check for understanding. In this SEL presentation, you will get a 5 slide Google Slide Presentation. This was originally created for remote learning, however you can adapt this for in the classroom as well. On the second slide, there is a read aloud that I created for the book My Cold Plum Lemon Pie Bluesy Mood by Tameka Brown. This is a wonderful book about a boy with many different feelings, emotions, and moods throughout the book. On the 3rd slide, there is access to a digital spinner with many different feelings on it. Once you click on the spinner in presentation mode, it will create a new tab, scroll down for the large spinner with a variety of feelings on it. When you click on the spinner, it will move and make spinner sounds. You can choose a student to come to the board or your computer to click it to stop. When it stops there will be a feeling on the screen. You can have students turn and talk about when they have felt that way, you could have them talk in groups, you could do it whole classroom and students can raise their hand. Play as many rounds as you have time for. Next on slide 4 the students can do a feelings scavenger hunt where they find something in the classroom (or home if it remote) that reminds them of that feeling. There is animated picture of feelings that come up on the screen. This gets kids up and moving in the classroom and having fun. Finally, on the last slide you will have access to a homework sheet to pass out to students called Inside/Outside Feelings Scavenger Hunt. Students can take this home and fill it out. They will answer prompts for; That makes you feel silly?, What reminds you of a trip, etc. There are 12 prompts for them to answer.

There are 10 situations to discuss as a class. You can have students use fingers (1-5) or move to stations around the room to choose what they would do in different situations. Finally, there is a reflection and a coloring activity to reinforce the importance of being drama-free. This lesson will address friendship skills, relationship skills as well as social awareness. You can use this for whole-classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and even one on one counseling. There are descriptions of what heats up (fuels) drama among friends as well as what de-escalates friendship problems. There is a 19-slide presentation using Google Slides. In the PDF, you just need to click on the image of the main cover image. This is the image of a collection of the slide presentation, the reflection sheet, as well as the mindfulness coloring activity sheet. There are slide notes on every page. The cooldown strategies are; owning your stuff (taking responsibility for your own actions), sharing your own feelings, sticking to the current situation, listening to the other person's perspective, and calming down before you react. This is a great lesson to use if you are finding students have difficulty solving their own problems among their friendship groups, small groups for girls (in particular), or hosting lunch bunch groups for girls. This is not gender specific so you can use it for both genders if needed.
