This is a pack of 30 phonic worksheets for the Long Vowel EA (as in eat) specially designed for those with special needs, including those with dyslexia or who may be suspected of being dyslexic but will work equally well with young learners in Kindergarten/EYFS/Y1. A pack of 30 worksheets with a variety of exercises to help build phonemic awareness and reading fluency. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. What is included? 30 worksheets for the sound EA taking pupils from hearing the sounds in words to reading and spelling them at word and sentence level. all following my special method devised as I privately tutor children of all ages with profound special needs. Your phonics lessons covered! Tracking, fluency triangles, spelling, reading, games, comprehension exercises....and more! 2 PDF games to send home for extra practice included! Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 30 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give the dictation a week after we finish the work on the EA sound to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included of some common EA words. Long I: Three Quiz Show Style Games Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game After the titles and information about the game, the first game will begin. Students will be shown a close-up photo of an object and have to guess what it is. Press the = button for the answer and the original photo with word will appear. Press the arrow button to move onto the next question. 6 questions in total. Second game is a memory game. Starting with three pictures and ending up with six, students have ten seconds to observe the pictures on the screen, then need to say the words they remember. The picture page will automatically move on after ten seconds but if you wish to move on yourself quicker then there is an arrow button. In the answer screen, answers will flash if correct, dim if incorrect. Finally game is more like a question and answer, but in two parts. In the part, there will be a clue and 3-6 words to choose from. Press the correct answer. In the second section you will get the reverse, one word and then two to three clues to choose from. Choose the correct clue for the word. Includes arrows to move onto the next page. About the Game These three quiz show games will give you the perfect opportunity to practice key long I vocabulary and practice the long I sound. With a mix of reading and picture related questions, this will give each student amply opportunity to practice. Three games. Words: iron, ice, kite, hide, pie, light, night, knight, fly, pilot, pile, tie, vine, pipe, fry, cry, time. Picture Style: Clipart and Photos Features some sound effects for entertainment purposes. Helps to Build Letter recognition – Identifying letters in different fonts or contexts. Letter-sound association – Connecting letters to its sounds. Vocabulary building – Introducing words that start with each letter. Phonemic awareness – Listening for letter sounds in words, rhyming, or segmenting sounds. With time spent on each letter, students need to remember key short A words and if you wish to make it harder, you can ask them to spell each word, too. Youngsters can combine pre-painted hand-illustrated characters (rabbits, hares, woodpeckers, and spring flowers) with the stunningly illustrated background scene. The scene has plenty of space for children to add their own drawings and writing to create wonderful journal pages to treasure. This set ideally lends itself to the study of animals in spring as well as life cycles, record observations in nature around you, or combine with study from books and objects. The sheet of illustrations makes ideal additions to spring displays. To create a tactile finished item I highly recommend printing onto high-quality paper, I like to use watercolor paper as this also allows the children to add their own paintings to the pages they create and means that every piece looks and feels like an original painting.

Playing the Game The question slide will begin with a clue and the amount of points available for guessing the correct word with this clue alone. Students can write/say their answers. Clicking the curved arrow on the right will make the next clue appear. This will have a lower points value but gives another clue for students to guess the word on. Again, press the curved arrow for the final clue. This is pretty much a a give away ie. you put this on your head, so students win at least five points on each round. Press the arrow for the answer. A pic will also appear but immediately become semi-transparent so you can still see the clues underneath if you wish to go through them. Press the square in the bottom right corner to go to the next page. Will be harder for early learners due to the amount of reading so you may have to read it out and help with some meanings. About the Game Practice reading key short A words and clues with this game. Words come up clearly so are easy to read, you may want to ask students to spell the word before revealing it. Teachers have complete control over the length of each slide as clues comes out one-by-one.
