Arkansas River Float Activity

Arkansas River Float Activity
Social Studies, Geography, Grade 6, 7, 8, Activities

This is an Arkansas River Float Activity. The goal of this game for students is to be the first to float the Arkansas River. To do this, students must advance their team from city to city by working sections of problems correctly. Once each team finishes a section of questions, they can check in with the teacher. If everyone is correct, that team will advance to the next city. If incorrect, they will need to find and fix their mistakes before they check in again. There is a short video tutorial within the PowerPoint that explains how to run the game . Directions to Teacher Before Game : On the map screen, edit the box in bottom left corner to show the problems you want students to complete. Each section of problems on their packet/worksheet corresponds to a section of the river (e.g. Section 1 is between Start and Pueblo, Section 2 is between Pueblo and Dodge City, etc.) Edit “ Game Rules” slide to suit your preferences. Show this to students before starting the game . To Run the Game : Put PowerPoint in presentation mode. Click box A in top left corner of screen to advance the purple team down the river, box B to advance the green team, etc. Each click of the box will advance that team to the next city. If you accidently advance a team too far, keep clicking on their box. It will eventually loop back around. Beware: once you exit presentation mode, all PowerPoint animations will be reset!
