Personal Carbon Emissions: Integrated Math and Earth Science Lesson What can people do to help protect planet earth? Can middle school students learn about global warming, climate change, and carbon emissions in an age-appropriate way? Can they determine their personal carbon footprint? This integrated science and math lesson contains everything you need to tackle these issues! A one-page handout that demonstrates the relationships between human use of fossil fuels, greenhouse gases, and climate change in straight-forward and easy to understand language (with helpful visuals). A two-page personal carbon emissions calculation worksheet. Students will apply basic decimal calculations (addition, multiplication) to calculate their estimated emissions of greenhouse gas equivalents per year. A one-page reflection for students to take time to reflect on what they have learned, what parts surprised them, and how they could take small steps toward starting to reduce their personal impact on the earth's environment. The activity consists of a set of fruit activity cards, each depicting a different type of fruit, and six corresponding sorting cards for each fruit. There are also color cards where the learner can sort the various fruit by their color. Each individual sorting card will feature a picture of the same type of fruit, but with subtle differences in color, size, and shape. We've got a game for you! It's a no-prep activity that will allow your students to practice two step equations while having fun. Students will practice with this engaging digital activity using Google Sheets. Students will solve 20 two-step equations. As they correctly answer the questions a mystery picture will be revealed. The mystery picture shows up as pixel art. This makes this resource easier to use because students can self-check their answers as they move along through each problem. If there is no pixel showing, the student needs to go back and figure out the correct answer. This resource is fun, and easy to implement. I used it as a sub-plan in seventh grade and the kids loved it. Your students are sure to enjoy this resource as they will be practicing algebra with this engaging activity!
